00:54 [CHANTING]
00:56 Thank you so much.
00:58 This entire day has been incredible.
01:03 The parade and this event, incredible.
01:08 I want to talk to the stalwarts of Team 144, players, coaches,
01:18 and staff.
01:21 A bunch of great guys.
01:23 Greatest football players and people in Michigan football
01:27 history.
01:29 [APPLAUSE]
01:35 Great guys who work together and win together on the field,
01:42 champions, in the community, in the classroom,
01:47 and on the gridiron.
01:49 Nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned hard work
01:53 and teamwork.
01:54 [APPLAUSE]
02:01 You are real football players.
02:04 No greater compliment can be given.
02:07 Football is as real as it gets because it is so challenging
02:13 physically.
02:15 The fiercely competitive nature of the game,
02:21 it is physically combative and violent.
02:26 It is a game played in the elements
02:29 with risk of bodily harm.
02:32 Football is as real as it gets because it is so challenging
02:36 mentally, but because it constantly tests individuals
02:44 who will take the easy way out, who
02:47 will fold under pressure of training, practice, or games,
02:52 who will not allow the team to be divided,
02:56 who has the fortitude to be accountable,
03:00 who will make excuses, who can persevere when being maligned.
03:06 Intense public and organizational scrutiny,
03:09 it will come.
03:11 Who will not flinch?
03:15 And it is the ultimate team sport.
03:18 Who will fight and be loyal to the mission you did?
03:25 [APPLAUSE]
03:32 And you passed with flying colors.
03:35 Fielding HO said, "No man can be a football player who does not
03:41 love the game.
03:43 Half-heartedness or lack of earnestness
03:46 will eliminate any man from a football team.
03:49 The love of the game must be genuine.
03:52 It is not a devotion to a fad that makes men play football.
03:57 It is because they enjoy their struggle.
04:00 Through it all, you men walked tall, strong, and innocent.
04:07 You love the lore, are disciplined, and family-driven.
04:13 You did right.
04:15 And when you stumbled, you made it right.
04:18 The 2023 Michigan Wolverines, your love for the game
04:23 is genuine.
04:25 The proof is in the pudding.
04:27 You defied gravity.
04:29 You loved to work.
04:30 You had to be pulled back rather than talked into
04:34 and had fun doing it.
04:36 You paid the price with perseverance, accountability,
04:39 integrity, discipline, refused to be divided,
04:44 rather chose to be galvanized.
04:47 Mighty men who chose to be unselfish and play together
04:51 as a team, you attacked each day with an enthusiasm
04:54 unknown to mankind.
04:57 [APPLAUSE]
05:04 You bowed to no man.
05:07 You bowed to no program.
05:10 [APPLAUSE]
05:16 You had focus.
05:19 That's finding our calling.
05:20 Use the scripture.
05:22 Well done, good and faithful stalwart.
05:27 Bo Schemmecker said the team, the team, the team.
05:30 Team 144, you are the team.
05:33 [APPLAUSE]
05:39 Victors valued, team superior, you had each other's back,
05:45 treated others as you wanted to be treated
05:48 and cared about other people's problems, not just your own.
05:52 You are Michigan football legends,
05:55 beloved sons of Michigan, mighty men,
05:59 and now known simply as national champions.
06:03 [APPLAUSE]
06:07 No one has the credit.
06:08 [APPLAUSE]
06:12 The St. Crispian's Day speech in Shakespeare's play Henry V
06:18 is flooded with wisdom, insight, and the essence
06:22 of being on a team.
06:24 We notice the similarities in football.
06:27 The mission, the football battles we fight in,
06:32 and the brotherhood of our 2023 Michigan Wolverine football
06:35 team.
06:37 The following excerpt of the speech
06:39 speaks truly, loudly, and for itself.
06:46 He that shall outlive this day and come safe home
06:50 will stand a tiptoe in this day's name
06:53 and rouse him at the name of Crispian.
06:56 He that shall outlive this day and see old age
07:00 will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbors and say,
07:04 tomorrow is St. Crispian.
07:07 Then shall he strip his sleeves and show his scars
07:11 and say, these wounds I had on Crispian's Day.
07:14 Old men forget, yet all shall be forgotten.
07:22 But he'll remember with advantages what feats he did
07:26 that day.
07:28 Then shall our names, familiar in his mouth,
07:31 his household words.
07:33 JJ McCarthy, the MVP.
07:37 [APPLAUSE]
07:48 Coram and Sanderstil.
07:51 [APPLAUSE]
07:58 Keegan and Zinter.
08:01 [APPLAUSE]
08:08 Jenkins and Barrett.
08:10 [APPLAUSE]
08:17 The Flowing Cups, freshly remembered.
08:20 In this story, the good man shall teach his son.
08:22 And Crispian, Crispian shall ne'er go by.
08:24 From this day to the ending of the world,
08:27 the we in it will be remembered.
08:29 We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.
08:34 For he today who sheds his blood with me
08:36 shall be my brother.
08:38 And be he near so vile, this day shall gentle his condition.
08:43 And gentlemen of England now abed
08:45 will think themselves accursed they were not here.
08:47 And hold their man who is chief whilst any speaks
08:50 who fought with us upon St. Crispian's Day.
08:53 [APPLAUSE]
09:00 Team 144, we salute you.
09:05 A band of brothers, thank you.
09:08 [APPLAUSE]
