00:00 The last time I googled myself was season two of Game of Thrones and I've never done it since.
00:05 And apparently everyone loved it from then on so I'm happy.
00:08 The best of mine.
00:10 That's what Dan told me.
00:11 Hi I'm David Benioff.
00:12 I'm Dan Weiss.
00:14 And I'm Alex Wu.
00:15 We're here with The Hollywood Reporter and we're gonna play The Last Time I...
00:20 The last time I wrote a script I was proud of would be the season of Three-Body Problem.
00:27 I would say the same.
00:29 Yeah I mean for all of us I think the last time I wrote a script I was proud of was on this show.
00:36 I hope others agree.
00:40 I don't think there's anything quite like our show.
00:42 There's so many different strands and different worlds at play.
00:46 Different characters not just in one place but across different times and different
00:52 sort of realities almost.
00:54 I'm proud most of all of I think the way that we just tied those things together into what I hope
01:01 is a coherent kind of unified viewing experience.
01:05 Yeah I'm really excited to share with everyone things they have never seen before.
01:11 Things that we've never tried putting on screen.
01:14 Things that no one has ever put on screen before.
01:17 The last time I googled myself was season two of Game of Thrones and I've never done it since.
01:23 It's a cold turkey experience.
01:25 No more googling yourself.
01:28 And apparently everyone loved it from then on so I'm happy.
01:31 To the best of my knowledge.
01:32 That's what Dan told me.
01:33 The last time I watched a TV show that inspired me was last night watching Adventure Time with
01:39 my son which I watch with him every night and before I watched it with him I watched it with
01:44 my two older daughters so I've now probably watched every episode of that show five times
01:49 at least and yet it constantly surprises me if I could take part in something that was half as good
01:54 or half as memorable I would be a happy man.
01:57 Most recently I finished What We Do in the Shadows.
02:00 It's a show that I never thought had a reason to exist because it came out of a perfect little
02:06 like gem of a movie and I really really enjoyed everything about that.
02:12 And the new show that I have only two episodes three episodes into
02:18 thinking about science fiction which is what we're doing here it's called Scavenger's Reign
02:22 and it's an animated show and it's really kind of beautiful and wild and just very
02:29 unusual and I've been really enjoying that as well.
02:33 The last time I saw a show that really inspired me is either the rehearsal because of what you
02:41 can do with the medium and I don't know if it inspires me but I do obsessively watch
02:46 a British show called Taskmaster which is kind of a comedy game show but it is an oddly sort of
02:54 serialized game show and after you know three or four or five episodes you really think you
02:59 know these people and in a completely different way you know that's what we're doing you know
03:07 with the one hour drama is you know getting the audience to build a relationship with
03:13 characters over time.
03:15 The last time somebody quoted one of my shows to me my kids paraphrased Lannisters always pay
03:22 their debts to me because they were pissed off at me about something or other and like
03:27 telling me that I was going to get mine sooner or later so we'll see.
03:33 We went to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl it was Ramin Djawadi our composer the composer from
03:38 Game of Thrones and also Three Body Problem was playing the Game of Thrones score and
03:44 we went and we went with another friend of ours Michelle and and and Chell said we kept
03:51 seeing people walk by with t-shirts that said "I drink and I know things" which is a Tyrion
03:57 Lannister line that Dan wrote and I said to Chell I'm jealous because all these people are wearing
04:02 these shirts with Dan's line.
04:05 I'd never watched it when it was on TV because by the time it got on to the TV I had already
04:11 seen each one a hundred times and I was I was good but my kids got to an age my son turned 13
04:18 and I figured well that's okay I can I can show them this and I figured I would watch the show
04:23 one time again in my life all the way through and that would probably be it so I watched the
04:29 whole thing with my family with my wife and my kids it was really nice to sit back and know there
04:38 was nothing you could do to change or affect anything but it was all there and you could
04:43 just sit and watch the whole thing and seeing it through their eyes was was really great I
04:49 enjoyed that a lot.
04:49 Thanks for watching us on The Hollywood Reporter.
