00:00 For years, I had the same packing routine.

00:03 Pull my suitcase from under my bed,

00:05 toss it on my bed, and fill it with clothes.

00:08 Once I checked into my hotel or Airbnb,

00:11 I'd throw my luggage onto the bed again

00:12 and pull out the things I needed

00:14 before chucking it all onto the floor.

00:16 But when I read that tidying expert Marie Kondo

00:18 wipes the wheels of her suitcase after each trip,

00:21 my mind spun.

00:29 I immediately thought of all the places

00:30 my suitcase had been.

00:32 Its wheels have touched New York City sidewalks,

00:35 sticky floors and bars in New Orleans,

00:37 the London Tube, and countless airport bathroom stalls.

00:41 It wasn't like I was going out of my way

00:42 to roll through mud and toxic sludge,

00:45 but when I finally cleaned my suitcase with Clorox wipes,

00:48 I was appalled.

00:49 It took about two or three wipes

00:51 to get all the dirt, gunk, and unseen germs

00:53 off of each wheel.

00:55 This is why you should always use the luggage rack

00:59 It's the best way to keep your germy bag
