Our reporter Michael Plant gives his verdict after Manchester United beat Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup third round.
Transcript
00:00 Manchester United are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory against Wigan Athletic tonight.
00:07 Goals from Diogo Dalo in the first half and Bruno Fernandes in the second half meant it was a really comfortable night.
00:13 United actually I thought played pretty well throughout the game.
00:16 The first 10 minutes or so Wigan buoyed by a really fantastic atmosphere here at the DW created an early chance that was saved by Andre Onana.
00:24 But after that it was pretty plain sailing for United who took the lead after 21 minutes and created a couple of chances before that.
00:30 Their hard work and good play was rewarded with that Diogo Dalo goal curling in from the edge of the box after Mark Strasford laid the ball back to him.
00:39 United then missed a plethora of chances in the final stages of the first half or the last 20 minutes or so in the first half.
00:46 Mark Strasford guilty of missing quite a few chances.
00:49 Rasmus Hoyland, Scott McTominay the same. United as well as they played will be disappointed to only have scored two goals here tonight because they created some fantastic openings.
00:57 It was the front three that started against Aston Villa probably the best performance certainly in the Premier League season so far.
01:03 Garnaccio on the right who was absolutely excellent tonight.
01:07 Hoyland through the middle, Mark Strasford out left and that does look at the moment certainly like United's best front three at the moment.
01:13 Created plenty of chances certainly with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes driving from midfield as well.
01:18 Second half wasn't quite as one sided. United failed to create the same number of chances and Wigan didn't really create much themselves.
01:25 Certainly were a little bit more compact, a little bit more difficult to break down.
01:29 Kobe Mane who had a good chance at the start of the second half.
01:32 Scott McTominay again missing another good chance before Bruno Fernandes won what I have to say is a very, very soft penalty.
01:38 Went down under the slightest of contacts and Anthony Taylor without the assistance of VAR pointed to the spot.
01:43 Penalty awarded, Bruno Fernandes stepped up and calmly slotted it beyond the goalkeeper.
01:47 To wrap up, as I say a really comfortable game. United will be pleased with the performance, pleased with how they dominated possession,
01:54 moved the ball really well, created so many chances but it's a problem that has come back to bite United a few times this season.
01:59 They need to get their attackers scoring more goals. Goals tonight from a defender and a midfielder, well that tells the story really.
02:05 United just need to get more goals from their attackers if they are to progress in the latter stages of the season.
02:11 But in terms of progression, they are now in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
02:14 They will play either Eastleigh or Newport County. I nearly forgot who it was there for a second.
02:20 Eastleigh or Newport County in the fourth round. Nice draw for United away from home which is a little trip away for those Manchester fans.
02:28 But certainly a relatively kind draw to face a lower league side in the competition.
02:32 But overall, as I say, a really good night for Manchester United.
