00:00 Do you remember those "All About The Numbers" videos that WWE used to do to promote the Royal Rumble?
00:05 They'd have some interesting things on there about longest times, most eliminations, best numbers, that sort of thing.
00:11 But you know, they're also rubbish things.
00:13 "For 20 long years, the Warlord hit the record. There have been 4 tons of humanity in the Rumble. That's 6,000 pictures!"
00:21 Or some other stupid nonsense. Like, what's the point in even knowing that?
00:24 That's fun, I guess, in a way.
00:27 These facts I'm about to give you now are equally as pointless, but I'm sure you'll also agree, are pretty fun.
00:32 Most of them have actually come from Darren's Win/Loss Records, Facts and Stats, a brilliant little site that's got loads of fun info about the Rumble.
00:39 It's linked to in the video description down below.
00:41 I'm Luke Owen, hailing from PartsFunknown, and these are 13 pointless but fun facts about the WWE Royal Rumble.
00:47 Number 1, the earliest a Royal Rumble event has ever taken place was on January 15th.
00:51 Hoo-hoo-hoo, boy, we're starting out hot today!
00:54 The Royal Rumble is traditionally a late January affair, with 24 of the 37 Rumble events, including this year's show, taking place in the last week of the month.
01:03 However, things could have been maybe different had WWE followed the lead of the second Rumble in 1989, which took place smack bang in the middle of January on the 15th.
01:13 Now, prior to 2004, it was much more common to see the Rumble air slightly earlier than we're used to now, typically hovering around the 19th or 23rd of January, but this was taking the eager beaver thing too far!
01:23 Number 2, The Miz sucks at Royal Rumbles, but he's not alone.
01:27 For 20 long years, The Warlord held the record for the shortest time until that one time Santino wasn't ready.
01:32 But neither The Warlord or Santino are statistically the worst at Rumbles.
01:36 The Miz has been in, get this, 14 Rumbles, and has eliminated, drumroll please, two people.
01:44 He's been in Rumble matches for over two hours and has eliminated two wrestlers.
01:51 That's one person for every seven Rumbles.
01:54 But it's actually worse than that, because both of those eliminations were in the same f***ing Rumble.
01:59 The 2012 one where he eliminated R-Truth and Alex Riley.
02:01 He did technically eliminate John Cena from the 2011 Rumble, but Miz was not an official entrant.
02:07 So yeah, two eliminations in Royal Rumbles.
02:10 Better luck this year, Miz.
02:12 Charles Wright isn't far behind, with only one elimination in eight Rumble appearances, totaling over 35 minutes.
02:17 And that one was helping Deez eliminate Duke "The Dumpster" Drozier in the '96 Rumble.
02:21 He's also been in eight Rumbles with five different gimmicks.
02:23 And speaking of different gimmicks, Matt Bloom takes the crown for the suckiest Rumble lad,
02:27 with six Rumbles and zero eliminations, despite being in the ring for nearly a combined 50 minutes.
02:34 Zero eliminations in six appearances across his time as Prince Albert, Albert A-Train, and everyone's favourite Lord Dentsai.
02:41 Johnny Knoxville has more eliminations than you, Matt.
02:43 Number three, coincidence? I think not.
02:45 Another star who narrowly misses being lumped in with Albert, Godfather, and The Miz is Shelton Benjamin.
02:50 In his ten appearances, he has eliminated just three men, and none of them were done by himself.
02:55 Eliminating Booker T alongside Charlie Haas in 2003, Muhammad Hasan, along with five others in '05,
03:00 and in '07, he and a record seven other people eliminated Viscera.
03:04 So yeah, not great.
03:05 But what is more notable is the fact that he found himself eliminated by the same man three years straight.
03:12 In the '05, '06, and '07 Rumbles, he was eliminated by Shawn Michaels.
03:17 Isn't that mad?
03:18 Amazingly, Dolph Ziggler nearly had the same record, as he was eliminated by The Big Show in the 2011, 2012, and 2015 Rumbles.
03:25 In 2013, he was eliminated by Sheamus, and in 2014, was taken out by Raid, so it's not quite as coincidental or as, uh,
03:32 or as interesting as the Shelton fact, so, um...
03:35 Yeah, that's Shelton fact, eh?
03:37 Number four, Hulk Hogan is a sourpuss.
03:38 You can say a lot of things about Hulk Hogan, but one of the nice things you can say about him is that he is one of only nine people to win multiple Rumbles.
03:46 However, he's also a massive sore loser.
03:49 He has twice been eliminated from the Rumble, and then gone back in to eliminate the person who eliminated him.
03:55 He did it first in 1989 against the best wrestler ever, The Big Boss Man,
03:58 HOODAMAN!
03:59 And then in 1992, was dumped over by Sid Justice, so Hogan just dragged him out too, and that helped Ric Flair win the whole thing.
04:06 Looks like he's eating some sour grapes along with his vitamins.
04:08 Now, look, I know what you're thinking.
04:11 "Luke, these are actually quite interesting. I don't think I would call them pointless.
04:15 I mean, look, I don't need to know them, but they're fun to bring out at dinner parties when I'm trying to impress my in-laws, and look, I hear you."
04:24 So check this sh*t out!
04:25 Number five, no Royal Rumble winner has ever been born in November.
04:28 Boom! How do you like them apples?
04:31 This one is pretty self-explanatory.
04:32 Somehow, among the 42 winners of the Royal Rumble, not a single one of them was born in November.
04:37 Probably the closest we came to this not being a fact was in 2012, when November's own Chris Jericho should have won the Royal Rumble,
04:43 but instead Seamus did, born in January, and Nikki Bella, born in November, was the runner-up in the 2018 Rumble.
04:49 Instead, that was won by Asuka, born in September.
04:51 Right, okay, well, you know, let's have a look here.
04:53 Cody Rhodes? Oh, he's in June.
04:55 Punk? Ah, close, he's in October.
04:57 Bayley? June again?
04:58 Nia Jax? Mate, that's even worse!
05:00 Ha ha ha! Ha ha!
05:01 Tegan Nox! Tegan- November 15th? Tegan Nox! Come on, Tegan!
05:06 And if you want pointless facts that'll be ruined in just a few weeks' time,
05:09 Number 6 - CM Punk has spent 2 hours 38 minutes in the Royal Rumble match, which is the same as the runtime of Ridley Scott's Napoleon.
05:14 You know, you know, it's all about that boom.
05:17 Eat those apples up now, mmm, yum yum yum, facts!
05:20 And the worst is that this Purvey record is going to be ruined this year, because CM Punk has already declared himself for the 2024 Rumble,
05:26 so let's all take a moment to soak in this incredible and nothful achievement.
05:30 2 hours and 38 minutes, the same as Ridley Scott's new movie, which I've reliably been told by Dan Leighton feels quite long.
05:36 Number 7 - It's all about the numbers. On your gear.
05:40 2017 saw what could have been a new tradition as two wrestlers decided to sport their entry numbers for that year's Rumble on their ring gear.
05:47 First of which isn't particularly surprised as it was his entire gimmick, that being the perfect 10-tie Dillinger,
05:52 who pretty much always had the number 10 on his trunks, but it just so happened that that was his entry number that year.
05:57 What's more surprising was Baron Corbin did the same thing 3 entries later for his Rumble debut at 13,
06:01 something he would not repeat for subsequent years.
06:03 5 years would pass before this would happen again and to be honest, I'm not sure how intentional it was
06:08 as the phenomenal 1AJ Style drew a number 1 and it also happened to have a number 1 on his gear.
06:13 Yeah, Baron Corbin had 13 on his trunks a lot as well, but you know...
06:17 The more you know.
06:19 And knowing is half the battle.
06:21 G.I. Joe!
06:22 Number 8 - Lucky number 800.
06:24 1,260 wrestlers have laced up their boots or gone barefoot in the case of Rusev and Matt Riddle
06:30 and stepped into the Royal Rumble across the event's history.
06:33 Hall of Famers, World Champions, All-Time Greats of the sport!
06:38 And also them is.
06:39 Of that 1,260 however, there have been some...
06:43 lesser entries.
06:44 Michael Cole, No Way Jose, Gilbert, James Ellsworth, Salvatore Sincere, the list goes on and on.
06:49 Another who had no business being in a Rumble also happens to represent a milestone in the history of the event.
06:55 That being legendary raging bull and sidekick to Los Matadores, El Torito,
07:01 who was the 800th ever entrant into a Rumble match.
07:05 This happened in 2014 at the peak of his...
07:07 powers I guess, lasting 1 minute and 26 seconds, which is just 7 seconds less
07:12 than former NXT and TNA World Champion Bobby Roode across two different Rumble appearances.
07:16 Just...
07:17 just let that one sink in for a second.
07:19 Number 9.
07:19 It's All in the Family.
07:22 Given wrestling being a family business and all, it's no surprise that many sons, daughters, nieces and nephews
07:27 have followed in the footsteps of their elderly family members by competing in Royal Rumbles.
07:32 Whether your last name is Rhodes, Flair, Neidhart, Anaway, there's plenty of examples.
07:37 Dom and Rey even became the first father and son to compete in the same Rumble in 2022.
07:42 We've also seen husbands and wives compete in Rumbles, as both Edge and Beth Phoenix competed in the 2020 Rumbles.
07:48 But I know what you're thinking.
07:49 Luke! Luke there, pal. Luke there, you handsome chap.
07:52 Has there ever been a Rumble show where a son-in-law and mother-in-law have competed in Rumbles?
07:56 And the answer to that is...
07:58 yes.
07:59 That actually has happened before.
08:01 In 2018, Aiden English competed in the Men's Rumble, while his mother-in-law, Vickie Guerrero,
08:05 would go on to compete in the Women's Rumble later that night.
08:08 It's incredible to think, I guess, that...
08:10 that's not a regular thing. It's not happened since.
08:13 Staggering, I know.
08:14 Number 10.
08:15 Double Judy x4.
08:16 As much hype as the two Rumble matches generate each year,
08:19 there is always at least two to three matches sprinkled around the card to fill it out.
08:22 While it is always hit and miss where the competitors in World Title matches will do both the match and the Rumble,
08:27 typically those in other miscellaneous bouts will fulfill their duties before then going to appear in a Rumble match.
08:33 But of the 55 examples of Starr doing so across 36 different Rumble events,
08:37 one man stands tall as the ultimate Rumble workhorse,
08:40 Cesaro.
08:42 In 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2018,
08:45 Cesaro competed both on the Rumble undercard as well as the Rumble itself.
08:49 The Miz isn't too far behind him,
08:51 competing in undercard matches as well as the Rumble in 2010, 2013, and 2015,
08:56 which might be why he can never get any eliminations.
08:59 He's always so blooming tired.
09:00 Number 11.
09:01 Only one person has spent 69 minutes in a Royal Rumble match,
09:04 and that person is Goldust.
09:05 LOL.
09:06 Number 12.
09:07 Only one person has ever lasted exactly 69 seconds in the Royal Rumble match.
09:11 Nice.
09:12 Yes, it's funny that Goldust has a combined time of 69 minutes,
09:15 but what's funnier is that only one person in Royal Rumble history
09:18 has a singular Rumble stretch that is exactly the funniest number in the world.
09:22 The person who lasted 69 seconds in a Rumble?
09:24 The Great Khali!
09:26 F***ing LOL.
09:27 Of Khali's 8 Rumble appearances,
09:29 which total around 20 minutes, 21 seconds,
09:31 which would arguably put him in the worst ever conversation
09:33 had he not eliminated 10 people in that time,
09:36 but it was the 2008 Rumble which only saw him last 69 seconds.
09:41 Nice.
09:41 Something that could either be seen as a disappointment or...
09:44 perhaps a prelude to his time as the Punjabi Playboy.
09:47 That's up for you to decide, I guess.
09:48 As for Goldust,
09:49 well, across his 12 appearances in the Rumble as Goldust,
09:51 or the, of course, the artist formerly known as Goldust,
09:54 he spent 69 minutes in total.
09:56 Something that also weirdly kind of fits his gimmick the more you think about it.
10:00 And finally, number 13.
10:02 Lucky number 16.
10:03 Here is an odd one for you.
10:05 Because of the length of time Royal Rumble has been part of our collective lives,
10:08 stars of the past have appeared with stars of the present in Rumble matches.
10:11 That means some wrestlers did Rumble matches
10:13 or wrestled on the Rumble undercard during the Attitude Era or New Generation,
10:16 then came back for modern day shows, for example.
10:19 Molly Holly wrestled on the pre-show of the 2004 Rumble,
10:21 then 14 years later entered the 2018 Rumble.
10:24 In 2003, Tori Wilson defeated Dawn Marie on the Rumble card,
10:28 then entered that 2018 Rumble 15 years later.
10:31 Jim Duggan wrestled on both the 1992 and 2009 Rumbles,
10:34 a gap of 17 years.
10:35 Jeff Jarrett had the longest Rumble to Rumble stint of 20 years
10:38 between 1999 and 2019,
10:40 and Ivory defended the Women's Championship on the 2001 Rumble undercard,
10:43 then wrestled in the 2022 Rumble, a gap of 21 years.
10:47 All of those are single-person records,
10:50 but 16 years has two names.
10:53 Well, it actually has four, as Trish Stratts defeated Jazz in 2002,
10:56 then 16 years later was in the 2018 Rumble,
10:58 and Victoria was on that same show with Molly Holly in 2004,
11:01 then competed in the Royal Rumble in 2021, 16 years later.
11:04 But the two names I want to focus on
11:06 actually went from Rumble to Rumble with a 16-year gap.
11:09 And those two names are Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka.
11:12 They were both in the 1992 Royal Rumbles,
11:15 their final Rumbles,
11:16 until they were both in the 2008 Rumble,
11:19 a gap of 16 years for both of them.
11:22 And then, incredibly enough,
11:24 they were both eliminated by the Great Khali
11:27 as part of that 69-second run.
11:30 No, I'm only kidding, it was Kane.
11:31 But it would have been fun if it was Khali, though.
11:33 There you go, 13 pointless but fun Royal Rumble facts.
11:35 I hope you enjoyed it.
11:36 We also looked at seven promos that turned into real-life fights
11:38 on parts of our known, so go check that out right now.
11:42 But no, that's not what you sickos want, is it?
11:44 It's the dark and grimy, mean and angry,
11:47 your stuff full of turkey and sweets,
11:49 and you've been forced to sit through
11:50 one too many of the same conversations
11:52 with your oh-so-sweet grandma
11:53 who only has four stories to tell,
11:55 three of which are about trees.
11:57 You need something angry to cleanse that palate of yours.
11:59 So here we are, ready to serve all your feisty...
