Post-game interview with Miles Kelly and Kyle Sturdivant
Transcript
00:00 >> I'll start them up for everybody, we'll go ahead and open up for questions.
00:04 Kelly, you wanna start us off?
00:06 >> For both of you guys, it was a very physical and a lot of calls kind of
00:11 changed the final three minutes of that game, just how, I guess,
00:15 frustrating the kind of way the game unfolded in the final three minutes.
00:20 >> I mean, it didn't go in our favor.
00:23 We can't put the games in the ref's hands, but we gave a lot of open shots,
00:27 a lot of open back doors, so that game was on us.
00:30 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:34 >> Speaking of that, do you feel like maybe in the first 10 to 15 minutes of
00:38 the second half, you lost some of your defensive intensity that led to those
00:42 lot of shots in the lane?
00:43 >> Yeah, I would say we didn't have the same intensity that we had in
00:48 the first half in guarding them.
00:50 We just have to do a better job of coming out the second half with the same
00:55 intensity that we used in the first half where the road played.
00:58 The first half, we're gonna have a big lead.
01:01 >> Chad.
01:01 >> Miles, what were the issues defensively tonight across the board?
01:06 >> I thought in the first half, we really stuck to the game plan and
01:09 really stuck to the scouting report.
01:11 The second half, I feel like we kinda got a little lackadaisical,
01:14 whether that was fighting over screens or getting over screens or
01:18 letting up back doors, stuff like that.
01:20 I think we gotta pay better attention to detail in the second half and
01:23 being more mature in the second half cuz we had the lead in the first half.
01:26 We just gotta be more mature and pay attention to detail for the second half.
01:28 >> All right.
01:31 >> Come on, in the back.
01:32 >> Thank you.
01:34 >> This is for either one of you gentlemen.
01:36 Same question, same theme.
01:37 So you see the lead getting away from you, the early and
01:39 second half timeout was called.
01:42 Didn't really seem to make a whole lot of difference.
01:43 Do you remember that timeout?
01:44 Do you remember the specific message?
01:45 There's not a lot of changes coming up because they continue to put in the lead
01:49 over in the second half.
01:50 >> Yeah, I think it all goes back to our defense.
01:56 We're playing really good defense and getting out and running them without
01:59 pressure on our offense.
02:00 So we just have to continue to get stops and get easy opportunities for us.
02:05 >> All right.
02:09 >> Coach talks about wanting you guys to really follow the scouting report.
02:13 Defensively, what did you know about Harris coming into the game?
02:19 >> We knew that was one of their guys on top of post.
02:24 We knew that we was gonna shut him down too.
02:25 But we didn't wanna give him, allow him to get comfortable looks.
02:28 And he kinda got that in the first half, he kinda got going in the second half,
02:32 he kinda got going again.
02:33 So that's something we gotta pay, like I said,
02:35 we gotta pay better attention to detail too and limit his shots and
02:38 limit making him feel comfortable.
02:40 >> The three point shooting for you guys,
02:44 I really couldn't have got off to a better start.
02:46 And they kinda tailed off in the second half.
02:48 Were they doing anything different in terms of guarding the three point line or
02:50 trying to prevent y'all from getting as many attempts up?
02:52 >> I don't think they necessarily did anything.
02:56 They switched their ball screen coverage up a little bit.
02:58 But I still think we got good opportunities too.
03:02 But a lot of our threes came from our defense.
03:04 That's why it's very imperative that we create our offense from our defense.
03:07 >> Anything else for the guys?
03:11 All right, thank you, gentlemen.
