Portadown manager Niall Currie insists his side didn't practice penalties before their Irish Cup tie against Carrick Rangers, in which they were successful with all five kicks to progress to the next round.

00:00 Well Niall, I'm sure you're delighted with that, with a 5-4 spot kick victory?
00:05 Yeah, I think that we knew what we were coming down to today, a very difficult place to come
00:11 and it's an up and at 'em, we knew it was going to be up and at 'em and it's a physical game when you come down here
00:18 so I think the biggest positives that I got out of the day was the fact that we were able to be competitive on that side of it
00:24 because a few times this season we've been a wee bit watery, what I would say, in regards to the physical side of it
00:29 so it was really good to see the new signings coming in today and lifted everybody around the place
00:33 and as I say, I thought just overall, maybe it's just shade, but it was a very tight game.
00:38 Can I ask, did you practice penalties today?
00:41 No, not at all. Listen, I think penalty kicks, obviously bringing Ross Redman on was a masterstroke
00:47 but, you know, I'm only joking by the way.
00:52 No, I think, listen, we have good senior players here, you know, Ryan Mays took penalties for Dungeanon,
01:00 Dobby took penalties for me at Dundella, Jack Henderson can put a ball wherever he wants
01:04 and as I say, we're pretty clued up in regards to that there.
01:10 People fancy him or they don't fancy him, believe it or not, you know, I've seen guys put nine out of nine
01:14 in this dancing on the training pitch and then miss one on a Saturday
01:17 so, you know, I want players to want to hit it for a start and then we'll go from there
01:21 but no, listen, I know people will practice penalties, now boys do it all the time, you know,
01:25 mucking about in the training session but whenever it comes to stages like that,
01:29 what does practicing do really? You know, it's a different atmosphere,
01:32 there's people behind the goals trying to put you off and there's pressure with that today
01:35 and I thought all five penalties were top drawer.
01:38 Cheers, thank you.
