00:00 It's time to roll out the red carpet.
00:02 The Golden Globes kickoff awards season on Sunday.
00:04 I'm Tiffany Taylor for The Hollywood Reporter here at the Beverly Hilton,
00:07 getting a special preview of the show from host Joe Coy and the producers.
00:11 This year marks a new era for the Golden Globes.
00:14 The 2024 ceremony has a new voting body of 300 journalists from around the world,
00:18 and it's set to air on CBS for the first time.
00:21 Comedian Joe Coy is also hosting the show for the first time.
00:24 He told THR how he's preparing for the big night.
00:26 The minute I got the announcement, I've just been binge watching every single nomination,
00:31 every show that I've already watched, I've watched again.
00:34 I just want to be prepared, I want to be ready, and just enjoy this moment, man.
00:39 I've been invited to the best party in Hollywood, you know, so I'm going to enjoy it.
00:44 When it comes to bringing that party to viewers at home,
00:46 the show's producers revealed how the 2024 Golden Globes will differ from past years.
00:50 You know, this has always been a great, tight, intimate space,
00:54 and a lot of people very close to one another, which is really great,
00:56 but the person winning the award has always been up on a stage and a little bit separated.
01:01 We're going to bring them out so that they're surrounded by people, their peers, as they accept.
01:07 By doing this, again, we're trying to keep a looseness in the room,
01:10 but we're also trying to create something, and how I'm going to shoot it,
01:13 we're trying to create a connected and intimate kind of immersive environment.
01:19 By doing so, the viewer, hopefully, is going to feel like they're more at the party
01:22 rather than just watching the party.
01:24 This year's party will include some superstar nominees.
01:27 Barbie and Succession lead the 2024 nominations with nine nods each,
01:31 followed by Oppenheimer with eight,
01:33 Endkillers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things with seven nods each.
01:37 The Golden Globes marks the first major televised awards show
01:40 since the end of both the writers' and actor's strikes.
01:42 Coy spoke about how the ceremony will be a celebration following Hollywood's tough 2023.
01:47 Was it a month ago we were on strike?
01:49 Like, come on, everyone was like, "Am I going to have a job again?"
01:53 That's literally how it was in Hollywood just about a month ago,
01:57 so now we know that everything's done, no more picket signs,
02:00 writers are back, comics are back, actors are back, let's celebrate, let's have fun.
02:05 The Golden Globes will air live on Sunday, January 7th at 5 p.m. Pacific, 8 p.m. Eastern on CBS.
02:10 It will also stream simultaneously on Paramount+ with Showtime.
02:14 For all things Golden Globes, be sure to stick here with THR News and go to THR.com.
