00:00 >> Happy New Year.
00:00 >> Happy New Year.
00:01 >> Happy New Year.
00:01 >> We had a long night.
00:05 >> [LAUGH]
00:08 >> We're a group.
00:08 >> We good.
00:09 >> [LAUGH]
00:10 >> That's everybody in here.
00:10 Everybody part of the group.
00:11 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:21 >> Unless you plan on retiring and
00:28 not playing the NFL or coaching the NFL,
00:34 this is still on your resume.
00:38 I think it's no different at any level, right?
00:41 You always look at the last four or five games, six games of the season,
00:44 how the team plays, how they coach, how they coach coach and vice versa.
00:46 So I think first is very important.
00:48 It's still part of the process and evaluation.
00:50 To be honest, I think our guys take pride in playing football.
00:54 I think they love football.
00:55 I think we got guys here that love football.
00:56 I think we got coaches here that wanna coach and see our guys win.
00:59 It's 2024, it's the new year.
01:01 It's a great opportunity to go out with a bang at home.
01:04 Get our fan base excited for what's gonna come in the future.
01:06 >> Obviously, you have a game left to play, but
01:10 it's been eight or nine weeks now since you stepped into the position.
01:14 How do you better reflect on the job that you've done in the second half of the season?
01:18 Are you dumping all your stuff, just thinking ahead at all to the mid-lane?
01:23 >> Yeah, no, I'm staying present to answer your last question.
01:26 And then how do I evaluate myself?
01:27 I think each and every week, you learn something new about myself.
01:31 I've learned something new about myself.
01:33 This is a game, regardless of how much you've played or been in,
01:37 there's always something new that comes up that you have to adapt and adjust to.
01:41 That's been a good part of the process in the world.
01:44 Understanding players, coaches, the dynamic to maintain that at a high level,
01:50 each and every week, to bring it each and every week.
01:52 And what that takes and what it looks like.
01:55 I think that's something that I'm gonna reflect on and
01:57 hopefully get better as I go along.
01:59 Excuse me.
02:00 At the end of the day, everything's gonna be looked at in wins and losses.
02:06 And I think that's fair, and that's what this is about.
02:09 I said that at the very beginning, right?
02:10 It says production-based, and it's about wins and losses.
02:13 But I do also think it's about what do you build in the foundation?
02:17 And I think for the most part, in these eight or
02:19 nine weeks, there's been a solid foundation that we've built as a team and
02:23 as an organization that we look on and say, okay, those are things that went well.
02:28 There's some other things that we can do better.
02:30 And that's how I look at it.
02:32 >> You talked about being a game-giving proprietor,
02:34 you don't wanna be out there playing.
02:36 But is there anything that changes in terms of injury evaluations,
02:40 things like that, in terms of a guy might have played if it was for
02:43 playoffs, might have not played this week, or those kind of things?
02:47 >> For not me, I'll be honest, that might be something I need to talk to Mr.
02:50 Davis and Champ Kelly about.
02:53 But for me, if you're healthy, you're ready to go, we play.
02:56 You play, and that's the way I was raised in this game, and
02:59 that's how I see the game.
03:00 Able to play, you play.
03:02 You play to your fullest ability.
03:03 If we have guys that I feel are not doing it, then we'll remove them from the game
03:07 and from practice, and go with somebody that wants to play.
03:09 But honestly, that'd be the problem.
03:11 I haven't seen a one, two be an issue here with us.
03:14 >> I guess a kind of similar question, is there guys you might not otherwise play
03:18 you wanna evaluate for the future that you put out there?
03:21 Is that things you can do now that you might not be able to do otherwise?
03:25 >> I'm sure that's up for conversation.
03:27 I haven't put much thought into that.
03:28 Not as of right now.
03:31 >> Coach, there's a lot of similarities between life and football.
03:34 Obviously, we're nearing the end of the season.
03:35 What are some maybe lessons you hope the players themselves have learned or
03:39 take from this season?
03:40 >> Well, don't look at it in a person's eye.
03:42 Don't blink.
03:43 Be together as a team.
03:45 Do it for one another.
03:46 Have love for the game.
03:47 Have some passion for the game.
03:48 Do it the right way.
03:49 Make it sound the right way.
03:51 Make it look the right way.
03:52 I think our guys have really embraced each other over the last eight weeks.
03:59 I think our team overall has bonded well together and
04:02 gotten to really understand what team really is.
04:06 Everybody talks about it, every coach will come up here and
04:08 give you that cliche and their layout.
04:11 And a PowerPoint about what a team is.
04:12 But what is it really?
04:13 What does it look like?
04:15 And I think hopefully these guys over the last eight weeks have realized what we've
04:19 done and what we're trying to do is just that.
04:22 Is do it for one another and do it as a team.
04:23 >> That's good.
04:27 >> You had at least time to look at the film now and think about it.
04:30 First, when you brought it to the panelist desk, Paul and Jack,
04:33 did you hear from the league?
04:35 >> I'm gonna stay away from that, that's a lot of money.
04:39 A lot of money, man.
04:40 They called it, winning is the Raiders, like I said last night.
04:43 Don't make it close.
04:44 Don't put us in that position where it's close enough where they have to call it.
04:48 And then Andy Coach did a good job.
04:49 You saw right away he ran to the officials, pointed something out,
04:53 caught his attention, and a couple seconds later the flag came out and
04:57 he went for the Raiders.
04:58 And that's a bad play for us.
05:00 >> Now that you had a chance to look at the film,
05:02 third and one seemed like the yard that you guys couldn't pick up.
05:05 What was the, can you put your finger on what was going on with third and one?
05:09 >> Yeah, just stay within who the Raiders are.
05:11 Just can't break the third down.
05:12 You can always go back and second guess a play call, but
05:17 we've had a way that we wanted to do things and sometimes it just stays true.
05:20 >> All right.
05:24 >> Thanks, Coach.
