00:00 Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. It remains cloudy and damp and a
00:06 wet Christmas for many of us and that's thanks to an area of low pressure. But it is slowly
00:12 moving out of the way and we'll see a ridge of high pressure just about moving in for
00:16 Boxing Day allowing something a little more settled. However, it then turns wet and very
00:22 windy as we move through Wednesday itself. Met Office warnings out for many parts of
00:28 the country. So if you are travelling on Wednesday, it is worth staying attuned to the forecast.
00:34 For the rest of Christmas Day, a cloudy picture for many of us. Outbreaks of rain which could
00:38 be heavy at times, particularly over western parts of Wales, some drizzly bits and pieces
00:44 in places. Showers across Northern Ireland, Northern England into Scotland, some of these
00:48 heavy at times. And then a band of showery rain bumping into colder air will lead to
00:52 some snow across the higher ground of Scotland, generally above 200 metres or so, perhaps
00:57 as much as 5-10cm over the higher ground. So a white Christmas but for the vast majority
01:04 a wet Christmas. And a mild one too. Temperatures 11, 12, 13C under the cloud and rain across
01:10 England and Wales. Colder further north 6 or 7 across parts of Scotland. Into the evening
01:15 time further blustery showers across the northern half of the UK. The rain across England and
01:21 Wales slowly pushing away into the early hours. Showers initially but even these start to
01:25 fade away as we move into the start of Boxing Day. Clear skies for many and that will allow
01:32 it to turn quite chilly. Temperatures dipping lower than they have done of late. Low single
01:37 figures below freezing across the glens of Scotland. With wintry showers across northern
01:41 Scotland we could see some icy stretches developing. But that means a bright start for many on
01:47 Boxing Day. Sunny spells, a few showers initially but dry day for many. Plenty of blue skies
01:54 and that's a great day then to be out and about working off that Christmas dinner. However,
01:59 cloud and rain does spread into the south west as we move into the afternoon. Parts
02:03 of Devon and Cornwall seeing some outbreaks of rain and the sunshine becoming increasingly
02:07 hazy. Best of the blue skies across parts of Scotland. Those wintry showers across the
02:12 far north east continuing. So for most a dry day and temperatures a little bit more festive
02:18 as well. Generally 4-6C across the north of the UK. Still mild across the very far south
02:23 west as that cloud and rain moves back in 11 or 12 degrees. It's all changed then through
02:29 Boxing Day evening time and into Wednesday as these weather systems start to move in.
02:34 So outbreaks of rain pushing slowly north eastwards across parts of England and Wales.
02:39 A chilly night and evening across parts of Scotland. Temperatures falling below freezing
02:44 here. And then for Wednesday a very unsettled day. So if you are travelling do take extra
02:50 care. Outbreaks of heavy rain pushing north eastwards across much of the country. Bumping
02:54 into colder air across Scotland will lead to some snowfall here. Very strong winds too.
02:59 Gusts of 50-60mph possible across southern and western coasts of England and Wales. Perhaps
03:05 even just as strong across parts of Northern Ireland and Western Scotland too. Showery
03:10 rain following some of this heavy at times. And temperatures with strong and gusty winds
03:15 coming in from the south it will generally be mild 12 or 13C. With the strength of the
03:21 wind it won't feel quite as mild as the numbers suggest. Cold air across Scotland just about
03:25 holding on particularly over the higher ground where the snow continues. So it remains unsettled
03:32 as we move through the week ahead. Something a little quieter for Boxing Day. So do stay
03:36 tuned to the forecast over the coming days. See you again soon.
