00:00 Elvis was a young man, and of course, he got distracted.
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at actors who nailed their depictions of celebrities so much
00:09 that they had us doing double takes.
00:11 We'll be excluding renditions of political figures and world leaders, however,
00:15 focusing on those in the entertainment industry.
00:17 You can whip me any time, man.
00:19 [cheering]
00:21 Number 10. Zac Efron as Kevin Von Eric, the Iron Claw.
00:28 For this biopic on the famed Von Eric family,
00:31 Zac Efron accepted the challenge of playing professional wrestler Kevin Von Eric.
00:35 Mom tried to protect us with God.
00:37 Pop tried to protect us with wrestling.
00:40 He said if we were the toughest, the strongest, nothing could ever hurt us.
00:44 The film follows the true story of the Von Eric brothers,
00:47 professional wrestling megastars in the early 1980s,
00:50 as they ride the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
00:53 That was a terrible accident.
00:56 I should have stopped him.
00:58 For the role, Efron completely transformed his body
01:01 by adding a massive amount of muscle to match his larger-than-life counterpart.
01:05 All the dedicated training paid off,
01:07 as Efron was able to completely equal the physique of Kevin in his prime.
01:10 Add on the era-accurate feathery wig,
01:12 and Zac Efron looked like he just walked straight out of a 1980s pro wrestling magazine.
01:17 Number 9. Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, Bombshell.
01:22 Thanks to her impressive, transformative role as serial killer Eileen Wuornos in Monster,
01:27 we already knew that Charlize Theron was a master of mimicry.
01:30 I mean, I'm a real hard worker.
01:31 She further proved her talent in the 2019 film Bombshell as journalist Megyn Kelly.
01:36 Mr. Giuliani's fired up.
01:38 When we come back, we'll discuss a speech with the man who helped write it.
01:42 Theron wore some minor prosthetic pieces for the part,
01:44 but it was mostly makeup that helped alter the way her face looked.
01:47 Regardless, the results were shockingly accurate.
01:50 Theron also stunned critics and audiences alike
01:53 with her pitch-perfect vocal tone and cadence.
01:55 Here's to a week of no kids but my own.
01:58 - Cheers. - Cheers.
01:59 To say she nailed the role in every way would be an understatement.
02:02 We, for one, can't wait to see who Charlize decides to take on next.
02:06 Will there be more?
02:07 Number 8. Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, Elvis.
02:16 It's a massive undertaking to play someone as recognizable and beloved
02:20 as the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.
02:22 Thankfully, Baz Lohrman entrusted the titular role of his 2022 jukebox musical biopic Elvis
02:29 to actor Austin Butler.
02:30 There's been a lot of talk about the new Elvis.
02:33 Butler seriously embodied Presley in every which way, down to the iconic voice.
02:37 Well, since my baby left me,
02:40 well, I found a new place to dwell.
02:44 It helps that he and Elvis already shared similar features,
02:47 including the shape of their faces.
02:49 And with the help of stellar hair and makeup design,
02:51 Austin was able to perfectly depict the legend at every stage of his career,
02:55 receiving plenty of award recognition for his work.
02:57 - Why holler at him? - For wiggle.
03:00 - For what? - Them girls won't see you wiggle.
03:02 - Move, man. - Do more.
03:04 What can we say? We, too, are all shook up about this performance.
03:07 Tell me honestly,
03:10 what do you boys think my career is at right now?
03:12 Number 7. Robert Downey Jr. as Charlie Chaplin, Chaplin.
03:16 Thanks to a decade-plus stint playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,
03:20 it's easy to forget Robert Downey Jr.'s other acting highlights.
03:24 - I am Iron Man. - Fortunately,
03:25 his turn as Charlie Chaplin in the early '90s is unforgettable.
03:29 Yep, Downey Jr. did an A-grade job acting as the star of Hollywood's silent era.
03:34 Robert's nonverbal language was on point.
03:37 He nailed everything, from Chaplin's posture to his physical movements.
03:40 [music]
03:49 Of course, he seriously looked the part as well,
03:51 making for a stunning side-by-side comparison.
03:53 The actor was so dedicated to the role
03:55 that he even learned tennis and violin for certain scenes.
03:58 We'd say this was a performance truly worthy of the legend depicted.
04:02 I know talking will be the end of the tramp, that's for sure.
04:04 But at least you'll go out saying something I believe in.
04:10 Number 6. Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody.
04:14 Rami Malek's mastery of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody was so great
04:18 that he ended up walking away with the Academy Award for Best Actor for his work.
04:22 We're mixed genres, we'll cross boundaries, we'll...
04:26 we'll... we'll speak in bloody tongues if we want to.
04:29 It took loads of preparation,
04:30 but when Rami stepped into the shoes of the Queen frontman,
04:33 he blew everyone away.
04:35 Are you happy?
04:36 I think it's beautiful.
04:38 It's almost perfect.
04:40 Almost?
04:41 Yes, give it more rock and roll.
04:43 A huge part of the appeal was the actor's uncanny resemblance to Mercury.
04:47 Prosthetic teeth and a mustache were really all he needed to look exactly like a subject.
04:51 Add in Malek's spot on way of walking, talking and commanding the stage like Freddie,
04:55 and you've got one of the most convincing depictions in modern cinema.
04:58 A little piece of you is falling away.
05:01 Lift your glass, the western wailer.
05:05 We'd be remiss if we didn't also shout out
05:09 Gwilym Lee's picture-perfect take on Brian May.
05:12 Chef's kiss.
05:13 I want to give the audience a song that they can perform.
05:16 Number 5.
05:17 Lily James as Pamela Anderson.
05:19 Pam and Tommy.
05:20 When the first images from the Hulu miniseries Pam and Tommy were released,
05:24 collective jaws dropped at the shocking resemblance
05:26 star Sebastian Stan and Lily James had with the celebrity couple they portray,
05:30 Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson.
05:32 The tape.
05:33 What tape?
05:36 You know, the tape.
05:38 It was Lily James who had the public in the most awe, however,
05:41 as she and Anderson appeared to be complete doubles.
05:43 Girls' Night!
05:46 Girls' Night!
05:48 The hair, the makeup, those other buxom body parts, it was all exact.
05:52 Lily's transformation into the '90s sex symbol and animal rights activist
05:56 landed her plenty of acclaim, including a primetime Emmy nomination for the role.
06:00 There's no two ways about it.
06:02 This on-screen makeover was perfect.
06:05 I can't watch myself.
06:06 No.
06:06 Why?
06:07 Why not?
06:08 What?
06:09 I don't know.
06:10 Someone's baring my head.
06:13 I get self-conscious.
06:14 Number 4.
06:15 Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison.
06:17 The Doors.
06:17 [MUSIC - JIM MORRISON, "HIDE AND SEEK"]
06:23 Turns out Val Kilmer was up for the part of Jim Morrison
06:26 before he even knew there was going to be a movie about Jim Morrison.
06:29 That's because director Oliver Stone considered Kilmer for the part
06:32 after noticing the actress' likeness to The Doors frontman in 1988's Willow.
06:37 Come on, let me out of here, Eric.
06:39 Give me a sword.
06:39 I'll win this war for you.
06:41 Of course, Kilmer jumped at the opportunity.
06:43 Val took the role seriously and even dropped some weight
06:45 to enhance the resemblance.
06:47 We'd say it worked.
06:48 Jim Morrison, the god of rock.
06:52 It's also reported that the actor went method a full year
06:55 before filming even began.
06:56 Apparently, he dressed and behaved like Jim during the day,
07:00 all while learning to sing his songs.
07:02 Heck, members of The Doors were said to be unable to distinguish
07:04 between the two singing voices.
07:06 We'd say that's a job well done.
07:07 #3 - Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe - My Week with Marilyn
07:20 Marilyn Monroe has been portrayed on film by several talented actresses over the years.
07:24 This includes a committed turn by Ana de Armas in 2022's Blonde.
07:28 However, it's Michelle Williams' take on the singular star that is truly striking.
07:32 You know what?
07:34 Every time I walk into the studio, I feel a sense of doom come over me.
07:39 In My Week with Marilyn, Williams plays the blonde bombshell
07:42 during the time she was shooting The Prince and the Showgirl.
07:44 Are you saying you don't want me to act?
07:47 Marilyn, will you just try to be sexy?
07:49 Isn't that what you do?
07:51 The movie also delves into Marilyn's alleged affair with her personal assistant.
07:55 Through these aspects, Williams was able to channel Monroe
07:57 as both a talented actor and singer, not to mention tender lover.
08:01 And she did all this while looking and sounding the part.
08:04 Like you remember I tried.
08:07 #2 - James Franco as James Dean - James Dean
08:11 Not only do James Franco and James Dean share the same name,
08:14 but they also share an undeniable resemblance.
08:16 So, Franco became the perfect choice to play the rebel without a cause
08:20 in the 2001 made-for-TV movie about Dean's life.
08:23 You're an actor.
08:25 Jane Dacey just signed me.
08:27 Congratulations.
08:28 And he didn't disappoint.
08:30 Franco was able to fully encapsulate Dean's swagger
08:32 by expertly mimicking his movements and overall attitude.
08:36 It also didn't hurt that he could look cool while riding a motorcycle.
08:39 It truly was the role that was meant to be.
08:41 You're nice to me, huh?
08:43 You know, it's gonna make people reject me. Why?
08:45 Of course, Franco would go on to convincingly portray another...
08:49 notable actor years later.
08:51 I hit her!
08:52 No! Do you want to change the line?
08:54 Script is script. Script says same.

09:13 Number 1 - Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles
09:17 Ray. It's the Oscar-winning portrayal that still blows our minds.
09:21 Listen to him, man.
09:23 I said, baby...
09:26 While Jamie Foxx has a passing resemblance to soul music trailblazer Ray Charles,
09:30 we were not ready for the actor's picture-perfect representation in the film Ray.
09:34 It's a gospel song.
09:37 I know what it is. I wrote it.
09:39 I mean, you told me to find my own voice.
09:42 Well, Pete, this is it.
09:43 Foxx may not have done the singing in the film, but trust us,
09:46 he does everything else to a T.
09:48 From the head movements to the overall mannerisms,
09:51 you'd swear you were watching the real Ray Charles on the screen.
09:54 I'm trying to do something that ain't nobody ever done in music and business.
09:58 But I can't do it if I'm alone everywhere I go.
10:00 Jamie Foxx's Ray Charles stands as the actor to perform a duplication to beat all others.
10:05 And if you don't agree, maybe you should hit the road, Jack.
10:08 What you say?
10:09 Hit the road, Jack.
10:11 And don't you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
10:15 What actor's on-screen portrayal had you seeing double?
10:17 Let's chat about it in the comments.
10:19 Yeah, you know what? I love it.
10:20 We're gonna put it out just like that.
