00:00 It's time to wrap up the work year and what better way to do it than to prepare some gifts
00:07 for needy children.
00:08 These volunteers are from a company that donates workers' time to charities.
00:12 We've found it's been a really valuable tool for bringing teams together and getting connected
00:18 with the communities in which we operate.
00:20 Corporate volunteers can really help charities by bringing in lots of reliable manpower at
00:25 key times.
00:27 Schools are always supporting but there's also a great opportunity for us to ask businesses
00:32 in local communities, large or small, to understand that they can also help provide services and
00:37 provide volunteers.
00:38 But the cost of living crisis has made this Christmas especially tough and charities need
00:44 more help.
00:45 More businesses and clubs are needed to step up.
00:47 This time of year there's an increasing demand in supporting families, particularly around
00:51 cost of living pressures.
00:53 At this homelessness support centre, donations are down.
00:56 By this time last year we had in excess of 40 hams in the freezer ready to go for Christmas
01:03 Day.
01:04 This year we've only received five.
01:06 That's a sign of the times.
01:07 The centre has enough volunteers but says people can help by donating food for Christmas
01:12 meals, toys for children and camping supplies that people can use for sleeping rough.
01:18 Things like solar powered phone chargers, hand held battery fans, things that are lightweight
01:26 that can be carried by a person but they help them go through the rough sleeping.
01:31 If you can't donate an item, many charities would love your time or your money.
01:36 Something valuable you can give this Christmas.
