00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the movies where the creators
00:13 might regret giving the fans what they asked for.
00:24 Number 10.
00:31 Alien Covenant
00:33 Before he made this movie, director Ridley Scott was ready to move on from the iconic
00:37 xenomorph.
00:38 Although the deadly creature is what made the original film so terrifying, Scott felt
00:43 it was time to retire the beast.
00:45 But fans had their own ideas.
00:47 They weren't happy that the xenomorph was left out of Prometheus, the first Alien prequel,
00:53 but they made their displeasure clear to Scott.
01:01 Worried that he'd lose the goodwill of the fans, Scott changed his mind and decided to
01:06 bring the xenomorph back after all.
01:08 The resulting movie is basically a rehash of the previous Alien films and didn't do
01:13 nearly as well at the box office as his predecessor.
01:20 Number 9.
01:27 Fans of the video games were sharply split in their reaction to the first film in this
01:32 franchise.
01:33 Although it was a financial success, it didn't include any game characters and felt more
01:37 like a generic zombie movie.
01:39 In order to keep the fans on board, the filmmakers brought some beloved characters from the games
01:44 into the sequel, including fan favorite villain Nemesis.
01:52 They must have thought that would be enough to keep audiences happy because the rest of
01:56 the movie feels extremely low effort.
01:59 It looks cheap, the story is non-existent, and what is up with the editing?
02:03 We hope a lesson was learned here.
02:05 You need more than fan service to make a decent movie.
02:16 Number 8.
02:17 Halloween 4 - The Return of Michael Myers
02:24 For the third film in the famous slasher franchise, the creators tried to go in a different direction.
02:29 In Halloween 3, Season of the Witch, they shifted away from Michael Myers to focus on
02:34 a story about witchcraft, hoping to turn the series into an anthology.
02:38 This didn't go well.
02:43 The fans clamored for more Michael and the producers basically had no choice but to give
02:48 them what they wanted.
02:49 Due to an impending writer's strike, the screenwriter had to develop the entire script
02:53 in just 11 days.
02:55 The final product was slow, boring, and not scary.
02:59 Even the shape's mask doesn't look right.
03:09 Number 7.
03:10 Jurassic Park 3 - Ian Malcolm
03:16 While many fans considered Ian Malcolm to be the most lovable franchise character, others
03:20 were disappointed that the second film didn't bring back Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler.
03:25 In an attempt to appease the fanbase, the studio wanted to ensure that the duo of scientists
03:29 returned for the third film.
03:31 But figuring out how to make that happen was a challenge.
03:39 The first script was thrown out completely, while the second was deemed too complex and
03:44 underwent heavy rewrites.
03:46 Ultimately, the cast and crew had to start shooting without a finished script, which
03:50 director Joe Johnson called "nerve-wracking."
03:52 Dr. Grant's involvement with the final story seems incredibly contrived, and Ellie's
03:58 presence feels like an afterthought.
04:00 These two icons deserve better.
04:07 Number 6.
04:08 Saw 3D - John Williams
04:16 Contrary to what you might think based on the title, this is actually the seventh film
04:21 in the Saw franchise.
04:22 By this point, it definitely felt like the writers were running out of ideas, so they
04:26 turned to a fan theory that had been circulating on the internet for years.
04:37 The theory was that a victim from the first movie, Dr. Gordon, had become Jigsaw's apprentice.
04:42 Of course, as soon as Cary Elwes was revealed to be involved in Saw 3D, everyone knew exactly
04:48 where the story was headed.
04:49 The result was an extremely predictable movie in a plot twist that was anything but surprising.
05:00 Number 5.
05:01 Green Lantern - Ryan Reynolds
05:07 Imagine casting Ryan Reynolds to help make your movie more serious.
05:11 The original concept for Green Lantern was an action comedy with Jack Black starring
05:15 as an everyman swept up in a superhero story.
05:18 Fans hated the idea.
05:23 The negative reactions on the internet was so strong, Warner Bros. threw out the concept
05:27 and started from scratch.
05:29 They ended up with a weak story full of bad dialogue and way too much terrible CGI.
05:34 Of course, hindsight is 20/20.
05:37 Now we know that Ryan Reynolds plus true action comedy is box office gold.
05:45 Number 4.
05:51 Blade Runner - Tom Cruise
05:52 If you've only seen the director's cut or the final cut of this sci-fi classic, you
05:56 might not be aware that the theatrical release included some truly terrible voiceover.
06:01 For this, you can thank the test audiences who saw the film at an early screening.
06:06 They found it too difficult to follow which led to the studio to insist on adding the
06:11 narration.
06:12 Hearing Deckard's internal monologue out loud completely changes the tone of the film
06:22 and ruins some otherwise beautiful scenes.
06:25 No wonder it flopped at the box office.
06:26 We're just grateful that Ridley Scott finally got to release the version of the movie he
06:30 originally envisioned.
06:39 Number 3.
06:40 Spectre - James Bond
06:46 Skyfall the third movie starring Daniel Craig as James Bond was the most successful film
06:51 in the long-running franchise by a wide margin.
06:54 So how come a lot of diehard Bond fans didn't care for it?
06:58 It could be because director Sam Mendes was inspired by the Dark Knight and in many ways
07:04 Skyfall feels more like a Batman movie than a 007 movie.
07:10 To keep the fanbase satisfied, Mendes decided to bring back more traditional Bond elements
07:15 for Spectre like intimidating henchmen, plenty of gadgets, and of course an iconic Bond villain.
07:21 We just wish he'd put as much effort into creating a compelling story as he did into
07:25 pleasing the fans.
07:32 Number 2.
07:37 Justice League - Justice League
07:45 You probably know that this movie is a bit of a mess.
07:48 Partly because director Zack Snyder departed the project early to deal with a death in
07:52 the family.
07:53 Joss Whedon took over and ordered a number of reshoots and changes to the script.
07:58 But many people don't realize that Whedon was brought on to make changes before Snyder
08:02 actually left.
08:09 The studio wasn't happy with the fan reaction to Batman v Superman and they wanted Justice
08:14 League to have a lighter tone.
08:16 We ended up with a lifeless mishmash of a movie where the reshoots are painfully obvious.
08:21 Another DCEU movie Suicide Squad suffered from similar problems with the studio even
08:26 bringing in the trailer company to recut the film.

08:51 Star Wars Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
09:00 The Last Jedi was objectively a critical and box office success.
09:04 But some Star Wars fans weren't thrilled with the direction it took the franchise.
09:09 Some of them had valid reasons and others not so much.
09:13 Unfortunately, Disney and director J.J. Abrams let the opinions of this small but vocal group
09:18 have way too much influence over the final film.
09:30 It almost felt like they were trying to undo everything established in the previous movie.
09:35 Suddenly Rey isn't a nobody, she's part of an important family, Kylo Ren rebuilds
09:40 his helmet after smashing it in The Last Jedi.
09:43 Most baffling of all, somehow Palpatine returns.
09:47 Despite having clearly exploded decades early, the result is the worst reviewed Star Wars
09:52 movie since the prequels.
