00:15 it was an uphill battle keeping his role as Jacob throughout the franchise.

00:19 While appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Lautner explained that the production always

00:24 planned to recast Jacob after the first movie, so he had to put in the work to stay in the role.

00:31 "My character in the first book is supposed to be like this 16-year-old,

00:34 little scrawny boy. And then in the middle of New Moon, he transforms into this 25-year-old

00:40 looking, built, muscular man. So their plan just all along was to cast a 16-year-old,

00:46 which they did. I was 16 at the time. And then they were going to cast a mid-20s guy to carry

00:53 on and be Jacob for the rest of the franchise. And I had been hardcore working out for about

00:58 nine months at this point and probably had about 20 or 25 pounds added at that point.

01:03 And they were surprised, but they didn't make it easy. I still had to re-audition. Thankfully,

01:09 Kristen was like, 'You're not reading with any casting director. You're doing that with me,'

01:13 which is very sweet of her. But it all worked out, yeah."
