Mordaunt attacked the SNP’s record in Scotland to a mock version of the carol The Twelve Days of Christmas.
After being asked about “morality” by the SNP, the Commons Leader told MPs: “I think we should have a festive round of up on SNP morality: 12 hours of police questioning, 11 grand roaming charges, 10 years without school inspections, nine sham embassies, eight years of poor child mental health, seven years without ferries, six years shirking welfare powers.”
To the tune of “five gold rings”, she added: “£500 million over-spent on Edinburgh’s tram.
“£4 million to install a heat pump, three high profile arrests, two overseas jollies, and a dodgy jaguar EV.”

00:00 >>Mrs Theodora Broughton (Westminster) (Lab/Co-op):
00:11 Last week, the Leader of the Opposition was unwilling or unable to answer my question
00:15 about her Government's latest immigration mess. Instead, she gave Scots another lecture
00:20 from Westminster, this time about morality and her own global leadership—a lecture
00:26 on morality from this Tory Government. The pantomime season is truly upon us. Was she
00:32 talking about the morality of her "pile the bodies high" Government? Or maybe she
00:36 was recalling the time her Government said, "We are breaking the law, but only in a
00:40 limited way"? Or is it the morality that allows water companies to make a fortune in
00:44 profits as children get sick swimming in raw sewage off the coast of England? Or is it
00:49 about the families of service personnel forced to live in quarters so riddled with damp and
00:54 mould that they are judged too poor for human habitation? Maybe that is the morality she
00:58 had in mind. Could it be the morality of the return of near-Victorian levels of destitution
01:03 across the UK? Maybe she was thinking of the WASPI women, deprived of their rightful pensions.
01:08 Perhaps she could lecture them about morality and see what they have to say to her.
01:13 But before she launches into mercifully her last video nasty of the year, I hope she can
01:18 answer my question today. It is the same question I asked last week, which remains unanswered
01:25 and mired in confusion, thanks to her Prime Minister. It may be that this morning's
01:29 statement entitled "Citizens' Rights" will address this, but we should have debated
01:33 these drastic changes before now in this place anyway. It is supposed to be the season of
01:38 goodwill, but so many of our constituents are now deeply concerned and frightened by
01:43 this announcement. So I will ask again on their behalf. If the spouse or partner of
01:48 a British citizen is currently living in the UK on a leave to remain visa, could they be
01:53 deported if their salaries are less than £38,700? Yes or no?
02:00 >> The Prime Minister I start by wishing the hon. Lady and her
02:07 SNP colleagues a very happy Christmas. I would point her to what the Prime Minister said
02:12 yesterday in her questions with regard to further information coming forward in the
02:20 new year. I said last week that I fully understand that people in particular professions, including
02:27 the armed forces, will want to have answers to this. My office stands ready to facilitate
02:33 any particular cases or requests that people have in the meantime, but transition arrangements
02:39 will be announced shortly. The Prime Minister got that on record loud and clear yesterday.
02:47 The hon. Lady mentions vulnerable people, and yet this very week the SNP has announced
02:59 that Scotland's national care service is going to be pushed back by three years. She
03:04 mentions the armed forces, and it is her Government who are insisting on them paying higher tax.
03:09 This Government are compensating her for that. If she wants to go and find Victorian levels
03:14 of rats and rickets, she should go to SNP-run local authorities.
03:20 I think we should have a festive round-up on SNP morality. Twelve hours of police questioning,
03:28 11 grand roaming charges, 10 years without school inspections, nine sham embassies, eight
03:33 years of poor child mental health, seven years without ferries, six years shirking welfare
03:39 powers, £500 million overspent on Edinburgh's tram, £4 million to install a heat pump,
03:46 three high-profile arrests, two overseas jollies and a dodgy Jaguar EV. I have succeeded in
03:56 bringing a smile to the hon. Lady's face, and I must thank her for being the gift that
04:00 keeps on giving at business questions. I hope that in 2024 better things are destined for
04:07 the Scottish people—better education, better health, better transport and opportunity,
04:12 and better values for the taxes they pay—and that all their MPs will come here and represent
04:18 their interests and take responsibility for the authority that they are given. That is
04:24 my Christmas wish.
