Browns Star Myles Garrett talks with the media ahead of a measuring stick match-up against the Jaguars.
Transcript
00:00 >> Do you expect to see Trevor Lawrence on Sunday?
00:03 >> It's a game time decision.
00:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:07 We'll see him if that's the decision, but
00:10 you never know with these kind of cases.
00:13 >> Is your shoulder feeling this way?
00:16 Still there?
00:17 >> Feeling all right.
00:18 It's still here.
00:19 >> Yes, yes.
00:19 >> It's all that matters.
00:20 >> Has anything changed for you, depending on who the starting quarterback is,
00:24 or is it just go get them?
00:25 >> It's just go get them.
00:27 Apply the same amount of pressure, come with the same kind of effort and
00:31 tenacity, and play the game as we play.
00:34 >> Kyle, there's been a deal on the stack since you took Kenny Pickett down in
00:38 the fourth quarter of that Steelers game.
00:41 Is there that rave interest in that this week?
00:43 I think Z yesterday said you guys were gonna do a shootout without not having
00:46 a second off.
00:47 >> I know.
00:48 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:51 >> We deserve to be shootout for
00:53 not getting up.
00:54 That's something that we pride ourselves on, applying pressure to the pocket and
00:59 make it difficult for those guys and we haven't last two weeks.
01:04 There's no excuses for that.
01:05 We gotta find a way regardless of what the offense throws at us.
01:08 And it's gotta be more valuable to the team.
01:12 >> Kyle, I know that teams do a lot to take you away.
01:16 Which, Rams or Coastal?
01:18 >> Extreme.
01:20 >> Extreme?
01:22 >> I don't know if I'd say that.
01:24 I know it was a heavy dose of what everyone else does.
01:28 But again, find a way.
01:34 It's nowhere to point any blame.
01:38 If I gotta find a matchup somewhere else or if I gotta fight two or
01:43 three guys, I gotta be in the middle of the formation, whatever I do.
01:47 If I gotta come off the ball and rush from kind of a backed up position.
01:53 I'm gonna find a way to win.
01:56 I can't point at anyone else or any of the scheme of coaching.
02:00 It's all me to make those plays happen.
02:03 >> So how do you react when you have a game, a rare game,
02:05 when you don't have any sacks and you can't make the, you know, those things?
02:10 How'd you approach the next time?
02:11 >> Watch the film over multiple times.
02:17 How could I have done better?
02:19 What did they give me that I didn't take advantage of?
02:22 I know the word, many opportunities, but the few that I got,
02:26 I have to be ready when they're there.
02:28 And then get back in the gym.
02:31 How can I get myself in tip top shape to where this stuff happened again?
02:36 Be better cardio wise, be better physically,
02:39 make sure that I'm limber and able to use my core.
02:43 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:53 >> Except planning for me specifically is difficult.
03:03 And I said I appreciate that, but
03:06 the results of your planning didn't help my weekend.
03:11 And what's it like to, you know,
03:14 I'm not happy with the game, the result of the game.
03:18 What is it like to have a coach of that caliber,
03:23 to tell you just what you get, you get.
03:26 >> I smiled on the outside and I cried on the inside.
03:31 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:34 >> We talked to Jim Schwartz yesterday,
03:37 he talked to you about the frustration that you guys face about sacks.
03:43 But when you kind of get shut out, but the rest of the guys weren't able to do much.
03:49 Not a lot of backfield disruption.
03:54 Does that frustrate you even more because you're receiving that attention and
03:58 that should help your teammates?
04:03 >> It's not a frustration at them because it's never a me versus them.
04:07 Never, if I'm getting this, y'all should be doing this.
04:10 We gotta find a way together.
04:15 I'm frustrated for us, not towards us.
04:18 And we have a high standard, and I have a high standard for
04:21 the guys in our room, and the level which we have played and can't play.
04:25 So it's just comparing ourselves to that,
04:29 we didn't do what we needed to the last two weeks.
04:33 So we have to get back to our old ways.
04:36 We have to get back to training and working and
04:40 communicating with each other like we have before.
04:43 And get back to dominating games for this team.
04:45 That's how we, one of the reasons we've been successful.
04:48 >> What do you think the team's mindset is coming off those two losses,
04:53 knowing that you need to do these wins to get to the playoffs?
04:59 >> I mean, they all count, but now they all count for two.
05:02 Especially this one being an AFC opponent.
05:04 And let's make it physical, make it grimy, make it ugly.
05:11 We're not a team that plays pretty ball.
05:17 It's gotta be dirty, messy, sloppy.
05:21 We gotta make it as physical and
05:25 sloppy as we can for the picture for them.
05:30 So they can't just go out there and just air it out or
05:33 have a clean way of doing things.
05:36 When they operate like that, it's difficult for us.
05:38 But when we make it AFC North football, then it's our brand.
05:44 This is what we do, and we're the best at it.
05:46 >> Carlos, I know you're not 100% healthy, but
05:50 these last couple of weeks, the challenges that you've got from Denver and
05:55 the way you've handled those, are those unique from what you've seen earlier
06:00 in the season, or are you just kinda flipping through some of the middle
06:05 of the season and showing a little bit of everything?
06:08 >> A little bit of everything.
06:09 They showed a little bit more willingness to throw more distractions,
06:15 throw more people my way at a higher frequency.
06:19 The shoulder is what it is, but it's midseason.
06:27 But it's midseason for everyone, so it's just gotta find a way to recover,
06:32 get treatment, do all those things to take care of my body.
06:36 And during the strain of the season,
06:42 it's about longevity throughout this consistency for the next five.
06:47 So we can make it last.
06:49 So this is nothing unlike what everyone else in Zotcom is going through.
06:55 >> Carlos.
06:56 >> You're a couple of hearty.
06:57 >> [INAUDIBLE]
07:00 But in terms of guys on the team,
07:04 not necessarily able to set whatever set.
07:09 [INAUDIBLE]
07:12 I mean, that stuff is to the benefit of the team.
07:17 That's not for me.
07:21 I mean, I'm not saying that I'm not gonna be there for you.
07:27 I mean, I'm not saying that I'm not gonna be there for you.
07:32 I'm just saying that I'm not gonna be there for you.
07:37 I mean, I'm not saying that I'm not gonna be there for you.
07:40 That's not for me.
07:42 That's what helps us win games.
07:44 I'm not getting sacks to take away double teams from guys.
07:48 I'm not getting sacks to count my numbers.
07:52 This is for us to win, at least have a chance to win.
07:56 So all this is to say that we're in this together.
07:59 It's not a matter of us trying to take pressure off one another.
08:04 We're trying to apply pressure to the quarterback and
08:07 give our team the best opportunity to come out on the right side of the field.
08:11 [INAUDIBLE]
08:13 I mean, it just seemed like it was supposed to be.
08:16 [INAUDIBLE]
08:18 Even if we're spread out in terms of these bunch of guys.
08:22 [INAUDIBLE]
08:23 Would it help a lot in this stretch?
08:27 [INAUDIBLE]
08:31 It helped the team win.
08:33 [INAUDIBLE]
08:36 You already talked about camaraderie in the playoffs.
08:39 [INAUDIBLE]
08:41 So that was most true, not going the way you wanted it to be true.
08:43 How is that going to impact you guys?
08:46 [INAUDIBLE]
08:50 I mean, the camaraderie is present, but we have to use that time as,
08:59 now that we're back here, as a way to focus in.
09:03 You're around your home, everything that's natural to you, your routine,
09:10 and things like that, they allow you to kind of get into your groove again.
09:15 I feel like some guys, they didn't really enjoy being away.
09:19 They enjoy being with their brothers, they enjoy spending time doing things
09:23 and catching up, those things can give you a boost, getting to know each other.
09:28 But that's never going to replace you being in your natural habitat
09:31 and being able to play the game the way you feel comfortable.
09:35 As we mature and do more time with each other, that kind of stuff,
09:40 we have to do away with, can't allow road trips to get away from us
09:44 for one reason or another.
09:47 But being here, there's no excuses.
09:50 It's time to lock in, it's time to focus up, and it's time to turn in these games.
09:53 Thanks, Mike.
