00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most epic, hype and
00:08 creative previews for video games ever made.
00:13 Number 10.
00:14 Super Mario Odyssey
00:21 Mario games are a staple of video gaming and game trailers and this is arguably the plumber's
00:25 best of the latter, if not the former two.
00:28 Epic 3D Mario games are few and far between and this one made everyone take notice.
00:33 As Pauline serenades us with the instant classic song "Jump Up Super Star", we're treated to
00:37 visions of all new worlds to explore.
00:40 But more importantly, the trailer reveals Odyssey's signature mechanic, Mario's new
00:44 ability to throw his hat at his foes to possess them.
00:54 It's so wacky and inventive that it fired all of our imaginations and had everyone wondering
00:59 what was plausible.
01:07 Number 9.
01:08 Dead Island
01:16 While the game itself failed to make a big splash, its initial trailer is widely regarded
01:20 as one of the best.
01:21 Beginning in the eye of a zombified child, the action is told in reverse.
01:25 We see the girl running from zombies in real time as we're slowly taken through an attack
01:29 by the infected girl and other zombies on her parents.
01:32 And then, after both timelines catch up to one another at the most heartbreaking moment,
01:36 we see home video of the happy family arriving at their hotel room before the disaster.
01:41 The unique presentation, haunting piano score and emotional storytelling help make this
01:46 a striking and beautifully made trailer.
01:55 Number 8.
01:56 Red Dead Redemption 2
02:06 When it comes to trailers, it can be difficult to balance building anticipation and revealing
02:10 too much.
02:11 Red Dead Redemption 2 goes for a subdued approach, yet it's also quite fitting.
02:16 The camera pans over beautiful, barren western landscapes, showcasing the incredible graphics
02:21 in several different lighting conditions.
02:23 The trains, townspeople and animals are all rendered with the in-game engine and building
02:28 hype over what's over the next horizon.
02:30 It's all closed out with Arthur Morgan's narration.
02:33 This announcement trailer calls to mind the simplicity and excitement of western movie
02:37 trailers.
02:38 Red Dead Redemption 2 ran away with our expectations and never looked back.
02:52 Number 7.
02:53 Halo 3
03:01 Most of us associate the Halo franchise with epic space battles, sweeping orchestral music
03:06 and unparalleled hype.
03:07 However, the trailer is made even more memorable by quieting things down.
03:11 The camera follows a diorama of human and Covenant soldiers in the middle of a battle.
03:16 Explosions are stuck in time.
03:18 Faces are permanently contorted in anger or agony.
03:21 The soft piano tune is haunting as we see our hero Master Chief seemingly captured by
03:25 the enemy and presented like a trophy.
03:27 But then he moves, and we have hope again.
03:32 It's a stirring and contemplative trailer that proves that a great idea can sometimes
03:38 be the best way to make everyone believe in your game.
03:42 Number 6.
03:43 Elden Ring
03:52 Even if information about this game was leaked prior to this trailer, it still got everyone
03:55 foaming at the mouth when it premiered.
03:57 The echoing hammering echoed the feelings in our hearts when we saw Hidetaka Miyazaki
04:02 and George RR Martin's names come on screen together.
04:05 And while the following cinematics give little away, their striking beauty, along with the
04:09 mysterious narration, instilled the very accurate impression that Elden Ring will be an epic
04:14 and unforgettable adventure.
04:25 It also got us excited enough that it made the wait for it to come out almost as painful
04:29 as one of the game's boss fights.
04:31 It was a moment of realisation that the game was finally coming to life.
04:40 Number 5.
04:41 Grand Theft Auto 6
04:48 This trailer may be hot off the presses, but it has lit the world on fire.
04:52 Fans have clamored for a full decade for information on the next Grand Theft Auto title, and this
04:55 trailer finally delivered.
04:57 Set in the backdrop of a Tom Petty song, we're treated to a look at GTA 6's new engine.
05:02 Although it's scarce on plot and gameplay details, it does hint at more advanced social
05:06 media features as well as a sort of Bonnie and Clyde storyline.
05:10 Additionally, we got a look at the series' familiar location of Vice City.
05:14 It seems that since the 1980s, this Miami-like city has become even more Florida.
05:19 Love is a long, long road, but it's worth the wait.
05:39 Number 4.
05:40 Gears of War
05:41 One of the most iconic trailers out there, this TV spot sees protagonist Marcus Fenix
05:52 running through the ruined streets of his world.
05:55 With Gary Jules' cover of the Tears for Fear song "Mad World" playing in the background,
05:59 Marcus explores the devastation and encounters the monstrous locusts erupting from the streets.
06:04 The haunting song and rain-swept, crumbling environment perfectly convey the grim setting
06:08 and draws the viewer in.
06:10 Not only did the commercial cause the song's popularity to soar, we'd argue that it basically
06:14 sold the game to most of those who bought it.
06:17 Well, this and the chainsaw gun.
06:25 Number 3.
06:27 Final Fantasy VII Remake
06:36 What you have to understand is that for literal decades after its release, fans of Final Fantasy
06:41 VII had been clamoring for a remaster of this classic RPG.
06:45 So when this trailer dropped at E3 2015, Final Fantasy fans lost their freaking minds.
06:50 It's merely a succession of cutscenes showing a futuristic-looking city at first.
06:54 But whether you recognize it as Midgar right away, or it isn't until you see Barret's
06:58 gun arm or Cloud's massive buster sword, eventually the nostalgia hits, the goosebumps run down
07:03 your body and make the hype begin all over again.
07:06 The promise has been made.
07:08 And while it took a while, they kept it.
07:17 Number 2.
07:18 The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
07:19 Here it comes.
07:29 It was honestly pretty close between this and its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom's final
07:33 trailer.
07:43 But despite featuring the most epic use of a saxophone, it couldn't quite match Breath
07:48 of the Wild.
07:49 The trailer's orchestral music is sweeping, grandiose, and moving.
07:52 The visuals showcase how massive and beautiful the game's open world truly is.
07:56 Meanwhile, it teases bits of the story while featuring familiar elements from previous
08:00 entries in the franchise.
08:07 All of this blends together into an amazing crescendo of a trailer that still has us on
08:11 the edge of our seats and cheering years later.
08:39 Number 1.
08:40 Super Smash Bros.
08:42 Ultimate
08:48 Video game trailers are meant to get you hyped, and the first major trailer for this Nintendo
08:52 crossover fighting game got everyone hyped beyond belief.
08:59 Sure, it starts off pretty simply, showing us fighters who have returned from previous
09:07 games.
09:08 But as the music swells, you realize how many characters are coming back.
09:11 Not just some, not just most, all of them.
09:22 It's not just the biggest crossover in video games, it's one of the biggest in all of media.
09:26 Add in detailed explanations of character changes, mechanical updates, and a few new character
09:31 drops and the hype surrounding this trailer reaches unprecedented levels.
09:35 Given the millions of reactions, memes, and general fan excitement this trailer induced,
09:39 it's fair to say that everyone is here for it.
