00:00 good energy and you know if you do three things in the same book, you're talking about defensively,
00:06 which is that's four backs. If you can defend well, foul, which takes discipline,
00:12 okay, which I would dare say that I saw two or three other teams, nobody works on it more,
00:19 it's awesome. If you run back on defense every time, it just takes zero talent. There's nothing
00:25 that takes less talent than basketball and running back. And it's going to block out
00:30 the physicality on every shot. So if you are say, top seven in defensive rebounding,
00:38 top ten in not fouling, which is about 28, and then your top ten in transition defense,
00:44 all of those things take not a lot of talent. They do take physicality, they take effort,
00:50 and you got to be smart about it. And you know, tonight, you know, it's the same thing,
00:56 it's two things. One, they shot 33 goals and they fouled. You know, and then you know what,
01:01 I would take that crew every night, I'll be honest, we did not get a good result,
01:05 I don't even say that. I mean, the 50-50 come-offs all went against us to make the second half. I
01:11 told Buddy that this was right after the game, I would take that crew every night, I respect all
01:15 three of them, I think we're good together. We got the short end of the stick, okay, and that
01:20 happens. But that's not why we lost. We lost because we're not physical enough, we don't run
01:25 long enough, we get off work, we blast, we foul, look at it. We had two ridiculous fouls at the
01:33 end of the second quarter, right in the paint. For guys who can shoot, can test it like 10,
01:38 12 foot shots, which is exactly what you want them to do, foul twice. So that's four points,
01:43 which is a big deal, okay. They had 22 second chance points away. I mean, one of the reasons
01:49 our defensive numbers are so bad is that 31 in Brooklyn, 22 today. I mean, you know, so when
01:57 you're watching the film, you're trying to figure out what's the problem, that's the problem. And
02:01 so it's as simple as that, you know, I messaged to the guys, I want to coach this team,
02:07 but we have to understand what wins in the NBA, okay. Every year, there's one or two teams that
02:14 just going to go all in and try to play offense. They're not physical, they don't do the dirty
02:18 things, you know, they don't want to do the tough things. And you know what, they get to either the
02:22 playoffs or the play-ins and they get the rest, because it doesn't work in our league. This is
02:28 fact, you go back the last 24 years, I don't know, I don't want to say it's fact, I'm 99.9% sure.
02:34 There's only been two teams that have ever won the championship that were top 10 in defense.
02:39 There's been a few that were top 10 in offense. Defense travels, defense gives you an identity,
02:44 defense brings your team together, okay. It's what you have to do if you want to win, okay. This is
02:50 not, I believe, even though the scores are higher, if you think about offense in the last 15 years,
02:59 who would you think of? Splash Bucks. And every year they won it, they were top five in defense,
03:04 okay. You got to be good in both. And we're not going to win until we decide that we want to do
03:10 that. That we'll run back every time. And I told them, I feel bad because we're putting so much
03:15 into it and we're getting a lot better. There's so much of it that we're doing so much better.
03:20 It's not going to matter if we're not going to do the hard things and we're not going to do the
03:24 tough things, okay. And we're not going to be the first to hit, the first one down a long rebound.
03:30 More guys are going to take a charge, more guys are going to dive on the floor. It's not the way
03:34 pro basketball works, okay. This isn't nearly about time or injuries, it's as much as how we play.
03:41 You have to have a game that makes sense in the league. Ours makes sense most of the time,
03:46 but we're like, you know, after tonight we'll probably be close to a little bit less than,
03:53 you know, 16, 17 in offense. But that's really because we've had three games where we've just
03:57 off, okay. And for the most part we've been good offensively. Defensively we might be last
04:03 to 20 knots or something like that. It's because of those things. And those things to me, you can
04:09 clean that up in one day. You can clean it up in one day. We've done it enough, we've worked on it
04:14 enough, and that's what we're going to get to, okay. Now that being said, my last question I'm
04:21 the one that's in charge of that, okay. So I'm not blaming the players, I'm just telling them where
04:26 we're at. The coaches and chart girls there, the coaches and the team leaders, that's the way the
04:31 NBA works too. I need help too. But if we get to that, we're going to have a chance to take off
04:36 here, okay, and have a really good year. And if we don't, it's going to be more nice like this,
04:41 where we're fun to watch and this and that. But to be honest with you, if you're being honest and
04:46 you're an NBA people that watch that tonight and say, boy they're doing a good job of offense,
04:51 they're going nowhere. Just like I do when I watch teams try to play like that. You're
04:55 not winning in this field. That's the one thing I do. All right, thanks.
