00:04 Hello, my name is Skylar Gerard of Fan Nation The Grove Report and here's your latest football news.
00:09 Now on Wednesday night, Rebels defensive lineman J.J. Pegues announced he will return to Oxford
00:14 for his final year of eligibility. The Rebels have lost a couple players to the NCAA transfer
00:19 portal but J.J. Pegues has announced he will be spending his final year in Oxford. In his
00:24 announcement, Pegues tagged his defensive line coach Randall Joyner, the Grove collective and
00:28 his defensive coordinator Pete Golding. The Oxford, Mississippi native also included a graphic in his
00:33 post saying with the phrase "staying home." This is amazing news for the Rebels since Pegues played
00:39 a big role in the Rebels team and finished second on the team in tackles for loss with 8.0 and third
00:44 in sacks with 3.5. He finished the 2023 regular season with 40 total tackles and registered two
00:51 pass breakups. He started his first two seasons at Auburn before he came to Oxford in 2022.
00:56 Since then, Pegues has recorded 66 total tackles, 13 TFLs, 6.5 sacks and four passes defended in
01:04 two seasons as a starter with the Rebels. Not only is he amazing on the field, he also makes a
01:09 difference off the field. He was nominated for the 2023 Warfold Trophy in October which is awarded
01:14 annually to the FBS player who best combines outstanding community service and leadership
01:19 achievement on and off the field. I guess we'll see how his last season goes with the Rebs.
