09:16 >> Their cow got hit so much.
09:18 >> Yeah, they were in the zone coverage and we need a touchdown there,
09:22 I think right inside of 30 seconds and they were in a deep coverage there.
09:26 So I'm not sure even if he had gotten hit, what would have happened there but
09:32 that looked like he got hit and then they made a nice play.
09:38 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> Hard to describe, yeah.
09:43 Just sick, the fact that we came up short in this game.
09:48 Work your whole year for it and we came up short, so yeah.
09:54 >> Right next to Larry Lage, AP.
09:56 >> Can you explain your thinking early on not going in for it and
10:01 at the end of the first half, not trying to pick up the first down.
10:07 >> Yeah, well, I felt like at 52 yards, it was worth a field goal there.
10:13 If you don't get it on, I think it was what, fourth and two, fourth and three,
10:17 somewhere in there, you had no points.
10:19 And it was worth the opportunity to kick the field goal at least if we come up
10:22 short there, then just turn over and down.
10:24 So I felt like that was the right move.
10:26 And then early in the game around midfield, just don't wanna give them any
10:29 momentum, felt like we could pin them down and play defense.
10:31 I thought we were playing pretty good early on.
10:34 >> Right off the work, the podcast, right?
10:37 It looked like you went out to get more explanation on the [INAUDIBLE]
10:43 Did you ever get one?
10:44 What did they explain to you?
10:46 >> Yeah, I was told that it was called on the field, a touchdown.
10:49 And because of that, it was upheld.
10:54 I didn't quite understand exactly how that was, but that's what they said.
10:59 >> Joey Kaufman, this match, [INAUDIBLE]
11:09 >> Yeah, just they did a nice job around
11:11 the ball and we ended up hanging on the end, giving our offense a chance to win.
11:15 But too much time off the clock there.
11:17 We gotta get a stop and get off the field.
11:19 >> Clay Hall, WSYX.
11:21 >> How would you rate Kyle's performance of 18 to 30, almost 300 yards?
11:26 The decision making, I mean.
11:28 >> Yeah, in this game, you gotta win the rushing yards and
11:31 you gotta win the turnover battle.
11:33 We did neither of those things.
11:34 So if that's not gonna happen, we're not gonna win this game.
11:39 >> Dan, did you have your, Dan Letts from Yahoo.
11:42 >> [INAUDIBLE]
11:52 >> Yeah, I try to keep what we talk
11:55 about in the locker room to ourselves, but we're all disappointed.
11:59 We know that what this game means to so many people.
12:01 And so to come up short is certainly crushing,
12:04 not only just because you invest your whole year in it.
12:07 We know at Ohio State what this game means.
12:10 And so there's a locker room in there that's devastated.
12:14 And it wasn't a lack of effort.
12:17 Again, we didn't win the rushing yards, we didn't win the turnover battle.
12:20 So you're not gonna win the game.
12:22 >> Is it possible to close the door in the back over here,
12:25 Spencer Holbrook, Letterman Row?
12:26 >> [INAUDIBLE]
12:35 >> Yeah, I felt like they were able to
12:37 establish to run a little bit there and kept a good rhythm going.
12:41 I felt like that happens a lot in games like this,
12:43 you kind of go back and forth a little bit in the second half.
12:46 So that was fairly normal.
12:49 I felt like the guys were doing a good job early on in the game.
12:51 But ultimately, it comes down to getting stops and
12:54 then finishing drives on offense.
12:56 >> [INAUDIBLE]
13:03 >> No, I mean, I think there was some
13:05 traction for sure.
13:06 Yeah, I mean, there was certainly one drive in particular,
13:09 I felt like we were really rocking off the ball and we were doing a good job.
13:13 I don't know ultimately what the final numbers were.
13:15 But I feel like when you go into this game, you gotta win rushing yards.
13:20 And it didn't happen, I don't know what the final numbers were, but
13:23 they had more than we did.
13:24 And that's a big part of controlling the game,
13:26 certainly has to do with the last couple drives.
13:28 And then also, and then turnover battle.
13:31 And I'd like to say it's more than that, but I'm not sure it is.
13:35 >> [INAUDIBLE]
13:45 >> Not a good start, you wanna have a quick start.
13:50 The kidney didn't get a nice play, Johnson jumped inside on a slant and
13:55 made a nice play.
13:56 I have to see it on film, but I know he's playing a little bit inside leverage there.
14:00 Kyle, I think just kind of fired in there and on a slant play.
14:06 It's a bang, bang play and then so I'll have to look at the film and
14:10 find out exactly what took place on the play.
14:13 But that's what I saw from my vantage point.
14:15 That was the communication that we had on the sideline.
14:17 >> Matt Murphy, 24/7 Sports.
14:19 Brian, you mentioned working this game all year.
14:21 Michigan has a running back throw, they go for that 4,000-pound cut,
14:25 great plays.
14:26 Where did you guys maybe not have those type of plays in the books?
14:30 Or did you individually start?
14:33 >> No, I mean, I felt like we had some good stuff.
14:35 I felt like we kind of got a little bit of rhythm there in the second half.
14:39 I thought some of the runs really hit.
14:40 I thought a couple explosive plays.
14:42 I don't know what the explosive play breakdown was.
14:44 That's usually something we figure out afterwards.
14:46 But I thought we were fairly explosive,
14:48 because that is a big factor in this game as well.
14:50 So I'll have to look and see.
14:51 But I thought when you look at it, how do you create explosives?
14:54 I felt like that part, we were doing a pretty decent job on offense.
14:58 >> Right next door, Steve Nelwagon, 24/7 Sports.
15:00 >> Coach, offensive line, it seemed like Kyle was under duress quite a bit today.
15:04 And he did on the interception there at the end.
15:08 Just, I don't know, something you guys kind of thought had seemed all season.
15:13 Just what do you leave with that?
15:15 >> Yeah, I'll have to watch it.
15:17 Sometimes you get out of these games and it's hard to figure out.
15:19 I think there were some good things in terms of moving guys.
15:23 A couple of those drives were pretty good.
15:25 I thought some of the protection was good.
15:26 But like you said, not consistent enough.
15:28 >> Steven Meese, Cleveland.
15:29 >> I'm sorry, but you asked about, you had a timeout left in the first half.
15:32 And so, for field programs,
15:34 you said you wanted to take that approach and move it to the top.
15:37 >> Yeah, they asked it before.
15:39 I think it was fourth and two, or at least a long two, maybe three.
15:42 And I felt like at that point, we had an opportunity to kick a 52-yarder.
15:47 And I felt like that was probably the right thing to do
15:50 if we can get three points coming out of the half,
15:51 especially starting the ball on the two-yard line was probably the right move.
15:54 If you make it, you feel great.
15:56 If you don't, you don't.
15:57 So we missed it.
15:58 And so certainly, we'll second guess everything.
16:00 But if you don't convert on that fourth and three, then you don't get anything.
16:04 So I felt like at that time, that was the right move.
16:08 >> Matt Forty, do you believe your team is in the playoffs?
16:12 >> I haven't even thought that far, Pat.
16:17 Just playing in this game, everything is so focused on this game.
16:20 Yeah, I'd have to kind of process that.
16:24 I think we have a very good team.
16:26 We came up short today, and it's devastating.
16:28 But I believe in our players.
16:31 I think we have a veteran team.
16:33 I think we have a team that is solid in all three phases.
16:39 And I'd have to kind of see what else is out there, honestly.
16:43 I've just been so focused on this game.
16:45 I appreciate the question.
16:46 I just don't have a great answer for you right now.
16:48 But I do believe that this team can play with anybody in the country.
16:51 >> We'll take a couple more of this for Coach.
16:53 Dan Hope, 11 Warriors.
16:54 >> Ryan, I mean, obviously, you know, it's the past two years,
16:56 all been about trying to avenge the loss.
16:58 And it doesn't happen again this year.
17:00 Where do you go from here now that you're in this situation?
17:04 >> Yeah, I mean, again, it's just after the game.
17:08 So it's hard to start thinking about all that.
17:12 You know, just trying to process the game right now,
17:17 and then we'll go from there.
17:18 >> And final question, Larry Leach, AP.
17:20 >> Just to go back to that end of the first half,
17:22 what I was asking, you had like 30 seconds left.
17:24 My question is, what was the thought process
17:26 to not try to call a play to convert the first down
17:30 when you have 30 seconds left, and then maybe call a timeout?
17:33 >> Because it was fourth down, right?
17:35 >> Yeah, it was fourth down, you had about 30 seconds left,
17:37 ran the clock down.
17:38 My question is, the thought process to not call a play
17:41 with 30 seconds left, try to convert,
17:43 and then maybe call a timeout or spike it or whatnot.
17:45 The thought in that lifetime.
17:47 >> Right.
17:48 >> That's my question.
17:49 >> Yeah, so if you go for it on fourth down and don't get it,
17:52 the other team gets the ball.
17:54 So I thought at that time the best thing to do
17:56 was to call a-- to just decide to go for a field goal.
17:58 So whether it was the end of the half,
18:00 or if it was eight minutes to go in the second quarter,
18:03 I would have made the decision to kick a field goal.
18:05 So I just wanted the clock to run down
18:09 so we're out of the half.
18:10 So whether there was 30 seconds on the clock at the half or not,
18:13 the decision was made to make a field goal,
18:15 and I felt like might as well run it down
18:18 and then make that the last play of the half.
18:20 >> Okay, George, thank you very much.
18:21 >> Yep, thanks, yep.
18:22 [ Background noise ]
18:29 >> All right, folks, we have quarterback Kyle McCord.
18:32 [ Background noise ]
18:36 >> We'll open up Dylan Davis, Delaware Gazette.
18:39 [ Background noise ]
18:50 >> Yeah, I mean, obviously, the corner made a good play on the ball.
18:53 He jumped inside on the slant.
18:55 So my eyes were on the linebacker and pulled the ball
18:59 into a third to Marvin and just jumped it.
19:01 But if I could have it back, obviously,
19:03 probably just want to burn that one in the ground
19:05 and live to see the next play
19:08 because we put our defense in a tough situation there.
19:10 But, yeah.
19:13 >> Over to the left, Austin Warren, podcast.
19:15 Kyle, how would you describe what it's like to be in that locker room
19:19 the last 10 minutes after coming off the short?
19:21 >> It hurts.
19:22 That's really the only word for it.
19:26 You know, to work that hard for, you know, that opportunity
19:31 and just to come up if you play short, it hurts.
19:33 And, you know, there's no way around that.
19:36 You know, so it's a tough feeling.
19:39 >> Tim May, podcast.
19:41 Kyle, at the last possession,
19:43 were you having a little bit of thoughts on Notre Dame?
19:45 I mean, here you go again and stuff.
19:47 You got down the field a little square into June Fleming
19:50 was ruled a catch or whatever.
19:51 And then on the last play, just take us through that from your vantage point.
19:56 >> Yeah, so defense got us the ball back.
19:59 Down six with about a minute to go.
20:01 No timeouts, so we knew we had to get the ball moving.
20:04 Started off with a good completion of Marvin on the sideline.
20:07 And then obviously Julian's play with the MEC with a great recovery.
20:11 And obviously in that situation, you know, they knew we were going to have to
20:16 take a shot down the field to get the ball moving.
20:21 And then it looked like they played cover to the boundary there to Julian.
20:27 And then so I went back to Marvin, kind of got hit as I threw it in.
20:31 Obviously get as much as on the ball as I wanted to.
20:35 And, you know, they made a play.
20:37 >> [INAUDIBLE]
20:42 Did you figure y'all had something going now?
20:45 I mean, what was that drive like?
20:47 >> Which drive?
20:48 >> The one where y'all drove and I think you ran the ball like eight times.
20:50 >> Oh, eight straight times?
20:51 Yeah, when we scored it?
20:52 Yeah, I think that drive started with the sack.
20:56 And it started second and 14 behind the chains.
20:58 And then Marvin made a good play.
21:00 He got the first down.
21:02 And then I think we just called straight runs after that.
21:04 The O line did a great job moving them.
21:06 Trey and Chip obviously did a great job of pushing the ball and
21:10 to cap it off with a touchdown there.
21:12 That was good.
21:13 I think that was obviously one of the better drives we had in the game.
21:17 I'd be able to run the ball like that.
21:20 >> Andy Baxter, Leonard Mineral.
21:22 >> I don't know if he's in the game, but obviously he's not.
21:25 Where do you guys go to start?
21:27 Are you a leader?
21:29 [BLANK_AUDIO]
21:31 >> Yeah, it's tough.
21:32 I mean, to be honest, there really aren't a lot of words to say in a moment like
21:36 this.
21:37 It's one of those games where you put everything in.
21:40 And it hurts to come up short.
21:43 But we'll regroup tomorrow.
21:46 Watch the film, obviously, make the corrections on it.
21:49 But the worst part is that we kind of have to sit back now and
21:52 see how everything shakes out.
21:54 It's out of our control.
21:55 But I know last year, we got a second chance at life there,
22:00 getting in the playoff, and we came ready to play, motivated.
22:05 But we'll see.
22:07 Like I said, the worst part is that it's out of our control.
22:09 >> Clay Hall, WSYX.
22:12 >> Kyle, anything you learned just from being in this environment,
22:16 the intensity that it measures up towards the top?
22:19 >> Yeah, I mean, I think the biggest thing is that games like this come down to one
22:23 or two plays.
22:24 And you prepare all offseason, you prepare all year long.
22:28 And your season really comes down to a handful of plays,
22:32 whether you make them or you don't.
22:33 And I think that just goes to show the margin of error,
22:38 especially in games like this are so slim.
22:42 So obviously, not the result we wanted.
22:46 But like I said earlier, I think get back on the film,
22:50 correct our mistakes and move forward.
22:53 >> Cameron Keeg Robinson, The Athletic.
22:55 >> Kyle, you just gave me a six-year-old,
22:58 I'm just gonna ask what the compensation was for the half.
23:01 How do you feel that that changed?
23:03 >> Yeah, I mean, I don't know how long it was.
23:05 It looked like 50 plus maybe in a six-year-old field.
23:08 I don't know how long it was.
23:10 And we had the ball at like the one-yard line, two-yard line to start that possession.
23:16 So even to get a chance at points there was a win for us.
23:20 I mean, obviously, three points would have been nice there.
23:23 But just to get the opportunity to put points on the board there,
23:27 I think was good for us.
23:29 So obviously, I think if he makes it, great.
23:31 But if not, I don't think anybody batted an eye.
23:33 We knew it was gonna be a fourth quarter game.
23:36 >> Nathan Barrett, Clingman's.com.
23:37 Back out.
23:38 [INAUDIBLE]
23:48 >> Yeah, obviously, like I said,
23:55 some of our future is really not in our hands anymore.
24:01 So just sit back and see what happens.
24:03 But in 2021 class, my brother's been three years where I felt like we were kind
24:09 of building to this moment, not gonna done it hurts.
24:13 But a bunch of talented guys in that group,
24:16 a bunch of guys that are going to do great things at the next level.
24:21 But I know this one definitely stings,
24:25 cuz this is what we talked about when we first got here and
24:30 we're gonna have to do better to lose on the state charts.
24:33 >> And one final question, Bill Rabinowitz, Columbus Dispatch.
24:36 [INAUDIBLE]
24:46 >> Yeah, obviously the interception is not an ideal way to start off the game.
24:59 And obviously they scored off the short field.
25:04 So I mean, playing a little bit uphill at that point,
25:07 I don't know if we ever regain the lead.
25:08 I know we tied the game at one point.
25:13 And then to your point about Marvin, I mean, it's been an incredible run.
25:18 Obviously, I love to get another chance to play with them here.
25:23 But I hope this isn't the end of it, but
25:28 if it is, I think he's cemented himself as one of the best players
25:33 to ever come through this program, he's a special dude and I love that guy.
25:37 >> Thank you very much.
25:38 [BLANK_AUDIO]
25:48 [BLANK_AUDIO]
25:58 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:08 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:28 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:38 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:48 [BLANK_AUDIO]
26:58 [BLANK_AUDIO]
27:08 [BLANK_AUDIO]
27:18 [BLANK_AUDIO]
27:28 [BLANK_AUDIO]
27:38 [BLANK_AUDIO]
27:41 >> All right, folks, we have wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
27:44 >> [INAUDIBLE]
27:54 >> Yeah, I think definitely,
27:57 once the players call, I had a good idea that I might get the ball across
28:02 the middle there and I don't know what happened in backfield or anything like that.
28:06 But the TV just made a play.
28:09 >> [INAUDIBLE]
28:19 >> Just a lot of emotions,
28:21 at that point the game was over and everything you worked for,
28:27 who this year, all the goals that you had, you weren't gonna accomplish them.
28:33 >> Tim May, Tim May show.
28:34 >> Yeah, Marvin, the first interception they had,
28:39 you wish you fought more aggressively for that ball,
28:43 what was your take on just the way that play developed?
28:47 >> I think I have to go back and watch it, but I think the TV just on a snap,
28:50 he kind of just went inside and we already had a slant called.
28:54 I guess I just have to go back and watch it, I don't know how much else I could have done.
28:57 >> As you guys took the field for that last drive,
28:59 was there a sense after a couple of catches, especially yours,
29:03 was doable, what were you thinking right there?
29:05 I mean, obviously you think about the next play,
29:08 but was there a sense of positive thinking there, you don't think this could happen?
29:12 >> Yeah, I think once they kicked the field goal,
29:14 to go six, there's positive thinking from there on.
29:17 We've been in that situation before in Notre Dame.
29:20 We kind of approach it the same way and we're gonna get it done this time.
29:24 >> Austin Ward, the podcast, Marvin, I know that he presented,
29:27 so this might not even be fair, but can you think about the days ahead and
29:31 what's going to happen for you and hoping maybe for help next week?
29:34 What you guys got a year ago, what will the next few days look like for you?
29:40 >> I don't know, I don't know, I don't have an answer for you just yet.
29:46 A lot of conversations we had, I was just family and the coaches, teammates,
29:51 so I don't have an answer for you just yet.
29:54 >> Nathan Barrett, Cleveland.com.
29:56 >> [INAUDIBLE]
30:04 >> Yeah, I don't know if I doubled more in a game than today,
30:08 just the safety help they had over top or inside.
30:13 I never really seen anything like it till today and
30:15 just the bracket coverage in the red zone that we got.
30:20 I definitely got doubled a lot more than today than I ever have before, I think.
30:25 >> Jeff Gilbert, Press Pro.
30:26 >> [INAUDIBLE]
30:34 >> What kind of guy is he in this year?
30:35 [INAUDIBLE]
30:41 >> He's gonna continue to fight.
30:43 How things are going good or bad, he's always gonna continue to fight.
30:47 That's the motto of our program.
30:50 I think he's done a tremendous job just handling everything that comes
30:55 to being the starting quarterback of Ohio State.
30:58 There's so much pressure and expectations and
31:00 he's done a phenomenal job all year just handling that.
31:03 So I'm super proud of him.
31:05 I tell you guys this all the time, but before he's my quarterback, he's my friend.
31:10 So I'm gonna support him through the ups and downs and I'll always be by his side.
31:16 >> Marvin, thank you very much.
31:18 >> Of course.
31:20 [BLANK_AUDIO]
31:26 >> All right, folks, and then we'll wrap up here today with Coach Jim Knowles.
31:30 Over here, Bill Rabinowitz, Columbus Dispatch.
31:34 [BLANK_AUDIO]
31:44 >> I mean, I think you saw it, we just didn't get the stops when we had to.
31:53 Had some guys in position, didn't make the plays.
32:00 You always wish you had just made those plays in the critical moments.
32:08 I thought the guys played hard.
32:09 [BLANK_AUDIO]
32:14 But it's just disappointing for the players.
32:17 >> Nathan Barrett, Cleveland.com.
32:19 [BLANK_AUDIO]
32:29 >> Yeah, I mean, I think he showed he's an excellent quarterback.
32:34 Made the plays with his feet when he couldn't with his arm.
32:39 And we didn't, and that's what happens in matchup games.
32:44 You have to go against great players.
32:47 And we needed another play.
32:51 >> Dan Hope, Lemon Warriors.
32:53 [BLANK_AUDIO]
33:01 >> Not enough.
33:03 I mean, ultimately, you gotta win this game.
33:11 And I certainly feel like we were a play short.
33:17 So that's something that I gotta keep working on.
33:22 >> Cameron Teague Robinson, The Athletic.
33:24 [BLANK_AUDIO]
33:32 >> We had a good call, but
33:37 we didn't make the play.
33:42 And I thought Denzel battled as hard as anybody could battle.
33:47 He ended up with the ball.
33:51 That's all I saw, but somebody else makes those decisions, not me.
33:58 >> Coach, thank you very much.
34:00 All right, folks, that's gonna be it.
