00:00 Another big talking point this week was,
00:01 what would this game do for Ryan Day's legacy?
00:05 He's 56-7.
00:07 He is undefeated against every single Big Ten team,
00:11 not named Michigan.
00:14 And he's lost three straight now to Michigan.
00:17 And obviously, this rivalry, it's heavier.
00:21 It matters more.
00:25 I have said time and time and time again that I, in my core,
00:32 do not believe Ryan Day's job is in jeopardy.
00:35 I don't.
00:37 And the smoke pregame that came out about Ryan Day
00:43 having the attention of the Texas A&M Aggies,
00:45 if Ohio State were to lose today,
00:47 where they felt like maybe Ryan would answer their phone call,
00:51 they'd have to pay him live golf money to leave Ohio State.
00:56 It ain't happening.
00:58 Gene Smith retiring in the summertime, I cannot envision.
01:03 I would be shell-shocked if Gene Smith relieved Ohio State head
01:08 coach Ryan Day, and then went through the process of trying
01:12 to figure out what they wanted to do, hire a new coach,
01:15 and then walk away and tell a new athletic director,
01:17 hey, here's your new football coach.
01:19 Hope you like him.
01:20 It's not going to happen.
01:21 So I don't even want to continue to address that topic.
01:26 But I think it is relevant, now that he's lost three in a row,
01:31 to circle back here on what does this do for his legacy.
01:34 The first couple may be a little more easily explainable
01:39 because of what was going on with Michigan and the sign
01:42 stealing cheating scandal.
01:44 That excuse isn't there anymore.
01:50 No, this was a tough one.
01:52 This is a blow because you had what
01:55 you thought was a team on an even playing field.
02:00 You got an opportunity to really show who you are
02:04 and show the country, really, that Michigan was getting
02:07 by doing something they weren't supposed
02:09 to the last couple of years and weren't really able to do it.
02:11 And what let them down this year,
02:14 it wasn't even like the defense let them down,
02:16 like they did in years past.
02:17 Kind of the offense let the Buckeyes down today.
02:19 And it's just, man, it is tough because the conversation now
02:24 is what are those Big 10, that Big 10 record,
02:26 what does that even mean?
02:28 What is wins over Rutgers and Miss Minnesota and Michigan
02:31 State?
02:31 What does that mean?
02:32 Because if you can't get this one done,
02:33 but I agree with you, man.
02:35 It's hard to build a program.
02:36 And it's hard to get Ohio State in the relevancy
02:40 that they are every single year and being
02:42 in that conversation of a top five team.
02:44 And he's got them there.
02:45 It just hasn't been able to get them over the top.
02:48 And it's interesting to see what's
02:50 going to happen these next couple of weeks because it's--
02:53 I don't know, fan base is riled up for sure.
02:57 Yeah, and they should be.
02:59 I mean, if nothing else, Ryan Day and his staff
03:04 lean into this as much as anybody.
03:07 I mean, they are vocal.
03:09 We're not allowed to lose around here.
03:11 And this game in particular, you're not allowed to lose it.
03:13 You can't lose.
03:14 You have to win.
03:16 You have to.
03:17 And three years in a row, they haven't.
03:21 So it's really difficult to stump for a coach who
03:29 by his own standards is falling short.
03:33 But I don't have a problem with Ryan Day.
03:36 I like him a lot.
03:38 And I think he's a good coach.
03:39 And I think he's the right guy to lead Ohio State.
03:44 I don't always love every decision he makes.
03:48 I would have liked to see a little more aggressiveness
03:51 today.
03:53 But I understand the need to play the field position game
03:59 when both defenses were kind of taking center stage early on.
04:04 So yeah, it's a weird spot.
04:08 He's going to have--
04:10 I'll put it this way.
04:11 I wouldn't want to be Ryan Day the next 12 months.
04:13 It would be tough.
04:14 It would be tough.
04:15 Your tweet was very funny earlier.
04:17 If you haven't seen it, go check it out.
04:18 Which one?
04:20 The B.
04:21 Yeah, a billion dollars.
04:22 Yes, with a B. That'd be the only way he'd consider it.
04:26 But you know what, man?
04:27 The surprise is that he wasn't more aggressive.
04:31 It was very shocking to me.
04:33 And not even the play at the end of the half.
04:35 That's just a tough situation.
04:36 You need points.
04:37 If you come out of there, if they throw it to the four yard
04:39 line and don't get points, everyone's
04:41 hooping and hollering.
04:43 But just the lack of aggression was kind of interesting.
04:46 I don't know.
04:46 We'll have to go back and watch it.
04:47 Obviously, the tape tells the story.
04:49 But it's unfortunate.
04:52 And it's a tough situation for him.
04:53 It's a tough situation for the Ohio State Athletic Department.
04:57 What do you do?
04:59 We're going to see how it shakes out.
05:00 And it's going to happen quickly, I think.
