00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So look, while we'd all love the bells and whistles
00:03 of the top spec Ford Everest Platinum,
00:06 it could be a little out of reach for some people.
00:07 So, I thought we'd jump behind the wheel
00:09 of something a little bit closer to the entry level.
00:12 This is called the Trend, the Everest Trend.
00:15 It is one up from the base model.
00:16 Trend is available in four by two and four by four.
00:18 This one here is the four by four model.
00:20 That means it's priced at a little over $65,000,
00:24 but if that's too expensive,
00:26 the entire range kicks off at just under 53 grand.
00:29 Now this competes with things like the Mitsubishi Pajero,
00:32 Sport, the Isuzu, MUX, the Toyota Prado.
00:36 Now I mentioned in our last video
00:37 that this competes with the Toyota Prado
00:39 and a lot of Toyota fans started pulling their hair out
00:42 and raging at their keyboards.
00:43 Tell me why you think or don't think this competes
00:46 with the Toyota Prado in the comment section below.
00:48 This is obviously ute based, the Prado isn't,
00:51 but people cross shop these,
00:53 which is why they are technically competitors.
00:55 Today we're gonna do a detailed review of this car.
00:57 So if you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of the review,
00:59 you can use the time codes that are on the screen,
01:01 or if you're on YouTube,
01:02 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
01:04 And if you haven't done so already,
01:05 subscribe to our channel, press the bell icon.
01:08 That'll tell you every single time we review an SUV.
01:11 Now let's talk about the design.
01:14 So you've got six external colors to pick from.
01:16 All but white is gonna cost you $700.
01:20 So you'll see down the front here,
01:21 the design is a little bit different
01:22 to the Platinum that we recently reviewed.
01:24 So you still get that big grill,
01:26 but that 3D texture looks a little bit different.
01:28 You have chrome along the front there as well
01:30 with a big Ford logo.
01:31 Got a radar sensor just down the bottom there too,
01:34 with your parking sensors nestled into there.
01:36 Now, when you do go for the four by four models,
01:39 you also get steel underbody protection under there.
01:42 It's sort of just nestled under there a little bit.
01:44 You also get these recovery points at the front there.
01:47 So it is kind of a little bit more capable
01:49 for off-road driving.
01:50 There's also these electronic louvers
01:52 behind the grill here that help either increase
01:54 or decrease engine heating.
01:56 You might be wondering, why do you want the engine
01:59 to heat up?
01:59 Well, if they are closed like that,
02:01 you build up heat within the engine bay quicker,
02:03 and it means the engine reaches operating temperature
02:05 quicker, which reduces your fuel consumption.
02:08 So they're kind of levers or louvers they can pull
02:10 to change how much cooling comes through the engine.
02:14 You've got a little camera up the front there
02:16 with the off-road pack that this car is optioned with.
02:19 It's got a little high pressure blaster there as well.
02:21 So if you do any off-road driving,
02:22 that will clean the lens on the camera.
02:25 Over here on the headlights, you have full LED headlights
02:28 with that LED daytime running light.
02:30 These are not matrix LED headlights.
02:32 So they're just that projector style.
02:33 Fog lamp down the bottom there as well.
02:36 Whip around to the side here.
02:37 So it comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels,
02:39 but you can option the all-terrain tire,
02:42 and this is what that looks like.
02:43 It's only a $500 option,
02:45 and I think it is probably worth getting.
02:46 We did notice with the Platinum when we went off-road
02:49 in that on the highway terrains,
02:50 it really did struggle a little bit on loose gravel.
02:53 So I'll be keen to see how this goes today,
02:55 'cause we'll attack the same course
02:57 and see if this performs any better
02:59 in comparison to the Platinum.
03:01 Up here, bi-turbo, because this is the four-cylinder version.
03:04 And of course, I've mentioned this
03:05 in previous Ranger and Everest reviews as well.
03:07 This section here is hydroformed,
03:09 so this is where you get a lot of the cooling,
03:11 and they overflow some of the engine's other parts
03:15 into this section.
03:16 So stuff like your washer fluids sort of tucked into here,
03:19 so you have more room within the engine bay.
03:21 Also allows them to fit a second battery
03:23 to Everest in four-cylinder and V6 trim as well.
03:26 I've mentioned this as well in our other reviews.
03:28 I don't love these side steps.
03:30 They just look a bit cheap and basic,
03:32 classic-y and not that great.
03:34 Body colour on that wing mirror,
03:35 indicated built into there.
03:36 Camera on the side as well.
03:38 This car also has been optioned with the Touring Pack.
03:40 It's just under two grand.
03:41 That comes with a tow bar
03:42 with an integrated brake controller.
03:44 360 camera, which adds these cameras to the front and sides.
03:47 And in addition to that,
03:48 you get zone lighting under there as well.
03:51 You get privacy glass, roof rails,
03:53 and then come around to the back with me.
03:55 So around the back here, Everest written along there.
03:58 You get these LED taillight sections,
04:01 trend, and then if you go for the all-wheel drive version,
04:05 the four-by-four, you get four-wheel drive written there.
04:07 This is your tow bar.
04:09 Under there, you have a full-size spare wheel,
04:12 aerial up the top.
04:14 Now this aerial is a little odd to me.
04:15 It's got like the shark fin shape,
04:17 but then it's got this giant sort of aerial
04:19 that sticks out of there, which is a bit strange.
04:20 I don't know why they couldn't just stick
04:22 with the shark fin aerial up the top there.
04:24 Then you get a brake light built into here.
04:27 And then that is about it for the rear.
04:29 So let me know what you reckon
04:30 about the design of the Everest.
04:32 Do you think this looks fancy enough?
04:34 I know with the platinum,
04:34 it had all these badges and stuff all over it.
04:37 Do you think this looks good enough
04:38 being one up from the base model?
04:40 Let me know what you reckon
04:40 down in the comment section below.
04:42 Okay, so we are inside the Everest.
04:44 Let's start off with the key.
04:46 Here it is.
04:48 You've got unlock, lock, boot.
04:51 And then on the back of that, you have a Ford logo.
04:54 It's a proximity sensing case.
04:55 You can leave that in your pocket
04:56 and you have a push button start down here.
04:58 So what do we think about the interior design?
05:01 So if you've seen our other Ranger and Everest reviews,
05:03 this is gonna feel a little bit familiar,
05:05 but if you haven't, look,
05:06 I think Ford's done a really good job
05:08 compared to the old Everest
05:10 in terms of just making this look a whole lot more modern.
05:13 It looks a whole lot more modern
05:14 than a lot of the other competitors
05:15 in the segment as well, which I think is great news.
05:17 And that means in terms of materials,
05:20 it's a soft touch stuff along the dashboard here,
05:22 and I guess a bit of a well thought out tech design.
05:26 So big screen in the center there,
05:28 screen ahead of the driver as well,
05:29 and then some manual controls down the bottom too,
05:32 just as a bit of reassurance
05:34 if you don't like pressing some of those controls.
05:36 I would like to see other interior color options,
05:39 'cause when you look at this,
05:40 it does look nice with the wood grain
05:42 and this sort of highlight down the bottom there,
05:45 but I'd love to see just a little bit more color in here
05:47 to break up all of the dark.
05:49 It really is just a little bit dreary
05:51 when you look at it in this light.
05:52 So it would be cool to see different seat color options
05:55 and maybe just a bit of variety inside the cabin.
05:57 Terms of our touch points though,
05:59 that is nice and soft in the center there,
06:02 soft on the door as well.
06:04 How soft is it?
06:05 Well, we've got our durometer,
06:06 we've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
06:08 If you wanna see how this car compares to others
06:11 that we've tested before,
06:13 have a look at the link in the description below.
06:15 Now, build quality.
06:16 A little bit loose in the center there
06:21 and around that dash cluster, but that all feels okay.
06:25 Door sound.
06:25 (door clunking)
06:27 Sounds very nice and solid.
06:29 Now, infotainment, kind of the centerpiece to this cabin.
06:32 So this particular spec,
06:34 once you step up from the entry level,
06:36 gets a 12-inch screen.
06:37 Entry level is a 10-inch display
06:39 and it uses Ford Sync 4 infotainment system.
06:42 That means eventually it's gonna get over-the-air updates,
06:45 which I think is a very handy feature.
06:47 You also have the FordPass Connect app,
06:48 which also a very handy feature
06:51 because it gives you a whole bunch of connectivity
06:52 with the car, including features like checking,
06:55 trailer lights and all that sort of stuff.
06:56 And oh, by the way,
06:57 this is the integrated brake controller too down here.
07:00 So that's what that looks like.
07:01 In terms of other features,
07:02 you have AM/FM/DAB digital radio.
07:06 And then in addition to that,
07:07 that's plumbed through an eight-speaker sound system.
07:09 Not quite as impressive
07:10 as the 12-speaker B&O Play sound system in the Platinum,
07:13 but I think it still does a nice enough job.
07:16 And on the smartphone mirroring front,
07:17 you have both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
07:20 They're both wireless.
07:20 I'll show you what Apple CarPlay looks like first.
07:22 So pretty impressive display there.
07:25 You can also then change the size of that display too,
07:29 depending on what you wanna do.
07:30 By the way, I've gotta say a big shout out
07:32 to one of our commenters.
07:33 I did mention that a little bit tricky
07:35 clicking on some of these buttons down here sometimes.
07:39 And he actually, or she actually said,
07:42 all you do is swipe up,
07:43 which I think is a very handy thing to know
07:47 because I've just spent a lot of time
07:48 faffing around with that.
07:49 So it's good to know that actually works.
07:52 And this is what Android Auto looks like.
07:54 In terms of your other features,
07:57 you have inbuilt satellite navigation.
07:59 That works pretty well.
08:00 Big display there, easy to use.
08:02 It also has voice recognition
08:04 that you can then plumb through your phone as well.
08:07 Now, in addition to this screen,
08:08 you also have a screen ahead of the driver.
08:11 I'm not disappointed by it
08:13 because you can in the Platinum get the bigger screen,
08:15 but here in the trend version,
08:18 you're getting a smaller display
08:19 and it just looks a little bit,
08:21 not as impressive in my opinion.
08:24 This car also has the touring pack that I mentioned earlier.
08:27 And that also comes with some off-road settings
08:29 that I'll run you through
08:29 when we do go for a drive a little bit later on.
08:32 Now, what about your safety tech?
08:33 So you have autonomous emergency braking
08:35 that detects pedestrians and cyclists.
08:38 You have an auto-dimming rear vision mirror.
08:41 In addition to that, you have radar cruise control.
08:43 You have a lane-keeping assistant
08:46 with a lane-centering assistant as well.
08:49 We actually tested this with the Everest Platinum
08:51 and it was able to work in all three lanes
08:54 of our banked bowl, which is pretty impressive.
08:56 We only had two other cars actually able to achieve that.
09:00 So in terms of the safety assist technology
09:02 and the lane-keeping assistant,
09:03 this stuff is really excellent.
09:05 Blind spot monitoring built into that wing mirror
09:07 covers the links to the trailer as well,
09:09 thanks to that integrated trailer brake controller.
09:12 In addition to all of that,
09:14 you have both front and rear parking sensors
09:16 and a 360 camera.
09:17 I'll show you what that looks like.
09:18 So there it is there, view out the front.
09:20 That is really nice and high resolution.
09:22 360 view down here,
09:24 not the best view in the world in my opinion,
09:26 but you can then change the views
09:28 depending on what you want there.
09:30 And you can then flick between those as required.
09:32 And then it gives you the track that the car's going on
09:34 if you move the steering wheel, you can see that moving.
09:37 You can also change what the view looks like.
09:38 So that's looking out the back at our suitcase.
09:41 You can see the sonar there as well.
09:43 And then you can also flick between the different views
09:45 as you go, including this view,
09:48 which is hitching a trailer,
09:50 which I think is pretty impressive.
09:52 Moving on to practicality,
09:53 and we will start off with your connectivity.
09:54 So down here, you've got a USB-C port, a USB-A port.
09:58 You have another USB-A port up the top here for a dash cam.
10:01 You have wireless phone charging.
10:04 You've got a little chip holder down the front here.
10:07 In terms of your other connectivity,
10:08 inside here you have a 12-volt outlet as well,
10:12 where you're gonna store your phone.
10:12 So it can live down there on that wireless charger,
10:15 or you can just whack it there in the chip holder,
10:17 if you want, or the cup holder, whatever suits.
10:19 Coffee cup.
10:20 So it can live here in the cup holder nicely
10:23 without getting de-lidded.
10:24 You then have teeth within that cup holder
10:27 to hold it in place.
10:28 But in addition to that,
10:29 just in front of your vents over here on the driver
10:32 and front passenger side,
10:33 you also have a slot there to hold your drink as required.
10:38 And what about your bottles?
10:39 So small bottle fits in there without any dramas.
10:42 That fits inside the door too.
10:45 So it is a big bottle, which is cool.
10:47 So it doesn't fit here, but it does fit inside the door.
10:50 Other storage, you have this center console here,
10:53 which is nice and deep.
10:54 Also has a coin tray.
10:57 You have a glove box down the bottom here,
10:58 which is reasonably sized.
11:01 You have a glove box up the top as well.
11:04 And then finally you have a sunglasses holder.
11:07 Now, what about your comfort?
11:08 So it comes standard with dual zone
11:11 automatic climate control,
11:12 but this has an optional package
11:14 that adds in electric seat adjustment.
11:17 Also adds in heated seats and ventilated seats as well.
11:20 So you can activate that stuff just by pushing up here,
11:23 sliding up and down.
11:24 It's all sort of pretty straightforward.
11:26 In addition to that,
11:27 you have electric seat adjustment for the driver
11:29 and front passenger and memory for the driver as well.
11:32 In terms of the seat adjustment,
11:33 you can go forwards, backwards,
11:35 backrest can go forwards, backwards.
11:37 You can lift the front of the seat, the back of the seat,
11:41 and you also have lumbar adjustment.
11:43 The seats are actually quite comfortable.
11:45 I found in both the Ranger and this,
11:46 they have plenty of support.
11:48 And for a longer distance drive,
11:49 it is just a nice and comfy place to be seated.
11:52 Steering adjustment comes in the form of tilt and reach.
11:56 But on the reach test,
11:56 all of this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving.
11:59 So we're in the second row of the Everest.
12:01 In terms of knee room, it's not amazing.
12:04 Toe room is fine.
12:06 Headroom isn't too bad.
12:08 Yeah, I don't know.
12:09 It's strange.
12:10 I remember the Everest Platinum,
12:11 the legroom being a little bit better,
12:12 but perhaps I have my seat a little further back here
12:15 or something like that.
12:16 But yeah, I was hoping for maybe a little bit more legroom
12:18 here given this is the SUV version of the dual cab.
12:21 You should have enough room for adults and kids.
12:24 Other creature comforts,
12:25 you have mat pockets in the back of the seats.
12:27 You have USB-C, USB-A, individual blower controls here.
12:32 All of your air vents are located here in the roof.
12:35 So they're sort of adjustable to where you wanna be.
12:37 You also have air vents for the third row as well.
12:40 Center armrest, you have two cup holders built into there.
12:43 So, well, it fits in there without any dramas.
12:46 And then bottle also fits inside the door
12:48 without any dramas at all.
12:51 The second row can be slid forwards and backwards.
12:53 You can also recline it slightly as well.
12:58 That also means you can kick back and relax if you want to,
13:00 or give your third row passengers
13:02 a little bit of extra room.
13:04 You have ISOFIX points on the two outboard seats.
13:06 You have top tether points in every single seat
13:10 in the second and third row, which I think is pretty cool.
13:12 Now, our window test.
13:14 It's auto down and up.
13:17 Goes all the way down as well.
13:18 Very impressive.
13:19 So let's talk cargo space.
13:23 We'll open this up.
13:26 Alrighty, now, third row.
13:29 Let me just quickly run you through
13:30 the amount of space here.
13:31 I'm not gonna climb in simply because we did this
13:33 in the Everest Platinum.
13:34 And look, there is actually surprisingly enough room
13:37 for an adult in there.
13:38 Probably not for long distance journeys,
13:40 but you can fit adults in there, I guess, if you need to.
13:43 It is more a kid-friendly space.
13:45 And here in the Trend,
13:47 you don't actually get the electrically adjustable
13:50 third row.
13:50 It is all manually adjustable.
13:52 Before I show you how that works,
13:53 you have just under 300 litres of cargo space here.
13:56 Beneath this section, you have a little bit of storage.
13:59 So you've got your own little hooks here
14:01 to hold everything up.
14:02 This is also where you access the drop down
14:05 for the spare tyre.
14:06 And then you have a couple of tools in here
14:09 for accessories, for changing tyre
14:10 and all that sort of stuff.
14:12 To drop your third row,
14:13 you basically pull this lever down.
14:15 That folds down out of the way.
14:17 Once that is gone,
14:18 you have just under 900 litres of cargo space.
14:22 You have a 12-volt outlet just off to the side here as well.
14:25 If you do want to expand the space even further,
14:27 I'll show you that in a second,
14:28 but it's what it looks like with our bags in there.
14:31 Our bags also fit when the third row is up as well.
14:34 So it actually is quite a versatile storage space.
14:37 There's also this little lip here too
14:39 to stop things flying out
14:40 if you do open the boot on an incline.
14:43 But if you do want to have almost 2,000 litres of cargo space
14:46 if you drop the second row from here,
14:48 once you do drop it down,
14:50 you have almost a flat load floor.
14:53 It's on a slight incline,
14:54 but it's flat enough to load big old items in as well.
14:58 So yeah, not a bad storage space.
15:00 So we have just hit the road in the four-cylinder Everest.
15:07 Last time I was here in an Everest, it was the V6.
15:10 So it's interesting to be able to sort of
15:13 feel what this is like back to back.
15:15 Big difference between the V6 and this,
15:17 obviously, is the engine, but it's also the noise.
15:19 This sounds like a noisier engine in comparison to the V6.
15:22 So this is running the two-litre biturbo four-cylinder diesel.
15:26 Makes 154 kilowatts of power and 500 newton metres of torque.
15:30 And that's all mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
15:34 Just like the V6 as well,
15:36 and unlike the previous generation of Everest,
15:38 you can actually run this in two-wheel drive,
15:41 four-wheel drive automatic, four-wheel drive high range,
15:43 four-wheel drive low range as well.
15:46 And I'll run you through some of the four-wheel drive modes
15:47 when we do a bit of light off-roading,
15:48 but for the moment, I will stick with these.
15:51 So in two-wheel drive high range,
15:52 you're sending all the torque to the rear axle.
15:54 So that's going to save a little bit of fuel,
15:56 but ultimately it doesn't give you the same,
15:59 I guess, handling characteristics on low friction surfaces.
16:03 And when we showed our XLT V6 video,
16:06 I kind of demonstrated the difference between
16:08 two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive automatic
16:10 on a wet corner.
16:11 You can really see there is a big difference there
16:13 in terms of how the car is composed and handles itself.
16:16 So I think for the most part, if you want to save fuel,
16:18 you just run it in two high,
16:19 but if you're sort of driving up a gravel mountain pass
16:23 or even on a mountain pass when it is snowing or wet,
16:25 it is worth just popping it into four-wheel drive automatic
16:28 and that shift happens seamlessly
16:30 and it just sort of just happens in the background.
16:33 Now let's talk fuel economy.
16:34 So Ford claims a combined average of 7.2 litres per 100 Ks.
16:39 We are currently sitting on nine litres per 100 Ks.
16:43 Look, it is significantly better than the V6.
16:46 The V6 I thought was a little thirstier
16:48 than it should have been,
16:49 whereas this is closer to the money there
16:51 in terms of fuel economy.
16:52 And what does all that feel like behind the wheel?
16:57 Let's give it a little punch here.
16:59 Yeah, look, 500 V, 600 Newton metres.
17:03 You do definitely feel the difference,
17:06 but it's actually not as different
17:08 as I thought it was going to be,
17:10 especially taking off from a standing start.
17:12 If I slow down here, bring it down a little bit
17:15 and then just punch the throttle.
17:18 This sort of does still push you in the back
17:20 and it is slightly more responsive than the V6 as well.
17:23 The V6 is a little bit laggy until it's up and moving.
17:25 So yeah, this really isn't as bad as I thought it would be
17:29 in comparison to the V6.
17:30 Oh, it's also worth pointing out on fuel economy there as well
17:32 that this uses an 80 litre fuel tank.
17:34 Now what's the ride like?
17:35 So this is running on 18s compared to 21 in the Platinum
17:38 we recently drove and this feels all the more better for it.
17:41 It is really nice and smooth in and around town.
17:43 It is very soft and it doesn't have that sharpness
17:48 that the Platinum does.
17:49 This really is a much more smoother and refined ride.
17:52 So what happens if you dial the pace up?
17:54 Let's get it up to 130 for our sine waves here.
17:59 See how it performs over this.
18:01 The Everest Platinum didn't have a huge amount
18:03 of body control over the sine waves.
18:06 Let's see if this is any better.
18:07 Yeah, look, this kind of feels the same.
18:11 Yeah, that top end really is quite sloppy.
18:14 You're gonna hit these things in the country
18:15 when you're overtaking,
18:17 especially on some of the washed away roads
18:19 we have out there at the moment.
18:21 Now there is no sport mode.
18:26 You do have a number of drive modes
18:27 that I'll run you through when we go off road,
18:29 but there is no sport mode.
18:30 So got it in 4A, we'll go for a little
18:33 punch around our track here and see what it feels like.
18:36 Brakes feel nice and strong.
18:39 (car engine roaring)
18:42 There's a fair bit of body roll there.
18:46 Yeah, look, the other problem as well
18:49 is we're on the all-terrains here,
18:50 so they don't have quite as much traction
18:55 as the more road-oriented highway terrain tires did
18:58 in the Everest Platinum we drove recently,
19:00 but it is still holding on okay.
19:03 It is actually quite surprising
19:05 how much pace you can carry in the Everest,
19:09 despite it being such a big car
19:10 weighing in at around two and a half tonnes.
19:12 It's actually fairly sporty when you sort of tip it in,
19:15 and I'm really not noticing that much of a difference here
19:18 between the four-cylinder and the V6
19:21 in terms of the way it's performing.
19:24 I think on the back straight,
19:25 we'll probably notice a little bit of a difference,
19:26 but mid-range torque delivery in the four-cylinder
19:29 is still really impressive.
19:30 (car engine roaring)
19:35 I think you will notice most of the difference
19:37 when it comes to towing,
19:38 but if you're not towing, you might not even need the V6.
19:42 So I've got it flat to the board here on the back straight.
19:45 It's actually still picking up speed okay
19:47 in comparison to the V6.
19:49 So it's actually not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
19:52 Okay, let's talk zero to 100.
19:56 So this is the second time I get to do this.
19:59 Someone forgot to bring our V-Box,
20:01 so you're just gonna have to watch this on the screen there.
20:05 Keep in mind that this is obviously,
20:07 the speedo is out by a few Ks now.
20:09 So the number that you end up seeing for zero to 100
20:11 won't quite match what we got for the Platinum,
20:13 which was against the V-Box,
20:14 but we'll give it a shot anyway.
20:29 There you go, not as bad as I thought it was gonna be.
20:32 Now our all important reverse test.
20:35 See how the four cylinder matches up against the V6.
20:38 Here we go.
20:39 It's not too bad.
20:43 Tap out there at 41 Ks an hour.
20:46 Now let's talk road noise.
20:51 So look, you do get a fair bit of road noise
20:54 coming into the cabin, thanks to those all-terrain tires.
20:56 It's not terrible, but it does feel to me
21:00 like it is louder in here than it was
21:02 in the Platinum that we tested recently.
21:04 So it's not the end of the world,
21:06 but you do notice the tire noise.
21:08 On the visibility front,
21:09 I can see clearly down the front of the car there,
21:11 the wing mirrors are enormous
21:12 with blind spot monitors built in
21:14 that also cover the trailer as well.
21:16 And then looking out the back window,
21:17 I have really decent visibility there too.
21:19 Now in terms of your towing capacity,
21:22 three and a half tonnes with a brake trailer
21:23 and turning circle comes in at just under 12 metres.
21:26 Now just very quickly on the lane centering system,
21:28 if you want to see how the Everest performs,
21:30 we shot that in the Platinum.
21:32 It passed in all three lanes.
21:34 You can have a look at that video by clicking up here.
21:36 Okay, time to do some light off-roading.
21:42 So we were here the other day in the Everest Platinum,
21:45 and it was a little bit disappointing
21:46 with its highway terrain tires.
21:47 So we're going to do all the tests again,
21:49 this time with the all-terrains,
21:50 and that means kicking off in two-wheel drive high range
21:53 for our Offset Mogul.
21:55 Now, before we actually do set off,
21:57 we'll run you through the four-wheel drive specs.
21:58 So ground clearance of 226 millimetres.
22:01 You have two-wheel drive high range,
22:02 four-wheel drive automatic, four-wheel drive high range,
22:05 which locks this into four-wheel drive mode,
22:07 50% of torque to the front, 50% to the rear,
22:10 four-wheel drive low range,
22:11 and then you have a rear diff lock.
22:13 This one also has the touring package,
22:14 which means you get the 360 camera,
22:16 and then when you push this,
22:17 you get this beautiful view plus your off-road display there
22:22 plus a head of the driver there as well.
22:23 So let's load up here in two-wheel drive high range,
22:28 see how well the traction control works here,
22:30 especially with the chunkier tires,
22:32 it should actually do well.
22:34 Okay, there we go.
22:35 We've got the rear right off the ground.
22:37 I'll roll into the throttle there.
22:39 There we go.
22:45 So two-wheel drive high range,
22:46 no dramas there, very impressive.
22:48 We will turn around again
22:50 and hit that in four-wheel drive high range
22:53 just to see what it's like
22:54 when we actually get two wheels off the ground.
22:57 Okay, so we will put it straight
22:58 into four-wheel drive high range,
23:01 and I will also leave the rear diff lock off
23:05 just for the moment
23:06 so we can have a look at how this goes.
23:09 Here we go, here we climb on this side,
23:12 and then we get to about here somewhere.
23:16 This is gonna force traction control to do its thing
23:20 and also the four-wheel drive system.
23:23 There we go, okay, so we are getting to the point
23:27 where we have two wheels off the ground just there.
23:29 So I'm gonna lean onto the throttle here
23:32 and we'll just see how it likes that.
23:35 No dramas at all.
23:36 That is good, didn't even need to lock the rear diff there.
23:39 So yeah, really impressive there.
23:41 The traction control system works really well in this
23:43 and it just doesn't fight the car.
23:45 It just does exactly what you expect it to do.
23:48 So let's head to our hill.
23:50 The hill is where the Everest struggled last time.
23:52 I'm hoping this time around it doesn't have any dramas.
23:55 Okay, it is time for our hill.
23:57 So what I'm gonna do is flick this into low range.
24:01 So pop that into neutral, hit four-wheel drive low range.
24:04 I'm gonna lock the rear diff as well.
24:07 So it says four by four shift in progress.
24:09 Put that back into drive, lock the rear diff.
24:11 I'll also put this into the RUT setting.
24:14 So turn to the drive modes, we have normal, eco.
24:18 What else have we got here?
24:19 Towing, hello.
24:22 Towing is about seat belts.
24:24 Normal, eco, towing, mud, RUTs, slippery and sand.
24:29 So I reckon we'll go into mud and RUTs.
24:31 We're in low range, rear diff is locked.
24:36 Okay, here we go.
24:37 So first up I'll drive up just normally
24:39 and then next time around I'll come to a stop
24:42 and then accelerate up again.
24:44 So this is also struggling a little bit here.
24:48 I'm gonna stay in that throttle.
24:49 Okay, so it's getting a little bit more traction up there
24:52 than it did in the last Everest,
24:54 but yeah, it still sort of isn't progressing
24:57 as easily as something like a Ranger does.
24:59 So let's go back around and we'll give that one more shot,
25:02 except this time I will stop up there.
25:06 And before we do that, we will do our hill descent.
25:09 So hill descent control, you press that button just there
25:12 and then just roll out of the throttle and down we go.
25:17 All right, that is nice and steady.
25:20 Very impressed with that.
25:21 And you can adjust the speed here
25:23 using the cruise control switch as well.
25:26 So let's get back up to our hill.
25:28 Give this one more crack.
25:29 Okay, take two.
25:30 This time I'm going to stop and accelerate again.
25:34 I am chewing up this hill, something shocking.
25:37 So let me stop just here and I'll roll onto the throttle.
25:40 We'll see how much better it is here with the all-terrains.
25:46 Oh, it is not liking this.
25:48 All right, let's go, let's go, let's go.
25:49 All right, we made it, we made it, okay.
25:51 So I just had to stay in that.
25:53 Yeah, I am chewing up the hill a little bit there.
25:55 Look, this does perform better on the all-terrains.
25:57 It definitely got a little bit more traction,
25:59 but yeah, I'm just surprised the Everest
26:02 doesn't get up there anywhere near as cleanly or neatly
26:05 as the Ranger did.
26:06 So yeah, just an interesting point, I reckon.
26:09 Now, before we give our water crossing a crack,
26:13 let's have a look at the rocks.
26:14 We'll see if this feels any different to the Everest
26:18 with the highway terrains.
26:21 So I've mentioned this in other videos.
26:22 I'll leave this in low range
26:24 and I'll just ride the brake with the throttle a little bit
26:27 just to have a bit more control over it.
26:29 Yeah, this is really nice and smooth.
26:34 I think the all-terrains just give you a tiny bit more
26:37 sort of leverage there when it comes to these rocks.
26:41 It's not a low profile tire like it is on the 21 inch.
26:45 Now I can hear a couple of little scratches underneath there.
26:47 We do have that steel underbody protection at the front.
26:50 You know, it's not a huge amount.
26:51 So you can get ARB accessories for this as well,
26:55 which means if you are serious about off-roading,
26:57 I'd probably go to town on some underbody protection
27:00 at the front there.
27:02 Maybe even a cheeky little lift or something.
27:03 But yeah, pretty impressive here,
27:05 just in stock form with the all-terrains over these rocks.
27:08 So final test is going to be our wading test.
27:12 So this has wading depth of 800 millimetres
27:17 and it has been very wet in Melbourne recently.
27:22 And our water crossing is at about 700,
27:28 a little over 700 at the moment.
27:29 So this will be interesting.
27:31 I've kept this in low range with the rear diff locked
27:35 just to be on the safe side.
27:37 And we will see how we go.
27:39 Here we go.
27:42 Oh, that feels nice and deep.
27:44 It feels like it's kind of floating through here.
27:51 Yeah, nice, that was impressive.
27:53 Those parking sensors are very annoying.
27:54 It would be nice if there was just a little switch there
27:56 to kill those, but yeah, look, that was great.
28:00 So had a little bit more headroom there,
28:02 but yeah, keep in mind if you are going to do any driving
28:05 like that, I can hear the water lapping through the doors.
28:07 If you are going to do any driving like that,
28:09 you probably are going to want a snorkel
28:11 just to be 100% sure.
28:13 But yeah, look, straight out of the box here,
28:15 the Everest is pretty impressive off-road.
28:18 I didn't love how it performed up our hill there.
28:21 It's not the world's steepest hill,
28:23 but yeah, for some reason it just wasn't loving that
28:25 both with the highway terrains
28:26 and these all-terrains as well.
28:28 So yeah, which is interesting
28:29 'cause the range was perfectly fine.
28:31 So just a little interesting tidbit.
28:33 (car engine roaring)
28:36 So Ford Everest trend, what do we think?
28:41 I actually thought there was going to be
28:42 a much bigger difference between the V6 we tested recently
28:45 and the four-cylinder, but the four-cylinder is kind of
28:48 pretty much about as good as the V6.
28:50 Yeah, you do get a bit more of a difference with the V6,
28:52 especially when towing, but I think for the most part,
28:55 the four-cylinder is going to do the job
28:56 and you save a stack of money here,
28:58 especially when you tick touring pack and the seats,
29:01 you kind of make up for most of the stuff
29:03 you're getting in the Platinum anyway.
29:04 So yeah, pretty impressed with that.
29:06 And I reckon this could be the pick of the bunch.
29:07 I'm looking forward to driving the Sport
29:09 to see how that feels, but I think if you don't want
29:11 to splash out on the Platinum or the Sport,
29:13 this is probably where your money needs to go,
29:15 especially in four-cylinder trim as well.
29:17 So let me know in the comments section below,
29:19 have you bought a Ford Everest?
29:21 How is it? Are you enjoying it?
29:23 Is there anything you wish they could have changed
