00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:00 So it's not always about dual cab utes and SUVs.
00:04 You've probably read about this car.
00:05 It is the Porsche Cayman GT4 RS.
00:10 It's like the most hardcore version you can get
00:13 of the Cayman that you can actually drive on the road.
00:16 And look, I'm sure you've already read about it
00:17 and seen all the reviews and stuff.
00:19 So today I'm not gonna be revealing anything too dramatic,
00:23 but I thought I'd take you through
00:24 just some of the cool features of it.
00:25 We'll go for a bit of a drive and I don't know,
00:27 we'll just enjoy what is an incredible looking car.
00:30 So this is available just in the one spec.
00:32 So it's priced at a little over $300,000.
00:36 It's almost $100,000 more than the standard GT4
00:39 and about $70,000 less than the 911 GT3.
00:43 So kind of nestles in there somehow.
00:46 It's competitors.
00:47 Look, it doesn't really have any direct competitors.
00:49 You could say things like the M4 CSL.
00:52 You could say stuff like the AMG GTR,
00:55 but this is a mid-engine,
00:57 what is effectively a supercar for the road.
01:00 So we're gonna do a detailed review of this,
01:02 have a look at what it's like to live with.
01:03 If you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of this review,
01:06 you can use the time codes on the screen,
01:07 or if you're on YouTube,
01:08 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
01:10 And if you haven't done so already,
01:12 please subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon.
01:14 So you can find out every single time
01:16 we drive a car with a carbon bonnet.
01:18 Okay, so let's talk exterior design.
01:22 You've got nine colors to pick from.
01:24 There's a caveat to that though.
01:25 Everything but your solid colors
01:27 is gonna cost you a bit over $6,000.
01:29 You can then get like special paint colors,
01:32 and they start from $18,000.
01:36 It is fairly expensive.
01:38 So let's talk about just some of the design highlights here.
01:41 This car has been fitted with the Weissach package,
01:43 and that is just over $20,000.
01:46 This also has the roll cage in it as well,
01:49 and that's an extra $7,000.
01:51 The Weissach package adds things like this carbon bonnet.
01:54 The thing I love about this is,
01:55 yeah, it's a lightweight carbon bonnet.
01:57 They've done everything they can to strip weight
01:59 out of this compared to the GT4.
02:01 It's almost 40 kilos lighter than the GT4,
02:04 which is an incredible achievement.
02:05 But even stuff like this,
02:06 so that carbon bonnet has a clear coat on it,
02:09 and then you have the Porsche logo there,
02:11 but it's not actually a real sort of physical logo.
02:14 It's just printed onto that,
02:15 and then the clear coat sits over the top of it.
02:17 You have cooling vents here that go under the bonnet there.
02:21 You also have these side vents here.
02:23 I love this as well.
02:24 You have more cooling down the front there,
02:25 and it has this great looking metal grate
02:27 sitting over the top of it.
02:29 The other interesting thing with Porsches,
02:32 and I think this is the same all over the world,
02:35 in Australia, Porsche uses a fleet of press cars,
02:37 so they're for us media to drive around and review.
02:41 They then use the same cars for track days,
02:42 and we recently had the Formula One here in Melbourne.
02:45 This car was doing hot laps with Mark Webber
02:49 and a few other sort of Australian race drivers.
02:52 They then get this car from Formula One,
02:55 and then we drive it on the road.
02:56 It's done almost 6,000 kilometres,
02:58 and I think this just shows you that with this company,
03:01 it is all about cars that you can drive to the racetrack,
03:05 take on the racetrack,
03:06 flog the living daylights out of them,
03:07 and then drive them back home.
03:09 That is what this is designed to do,
03:10 and while this does have some inconveniences
03:13 as a daily driver,
03:14 it is designed to be one precision weapon on the track,
03:18 first and foremost, as opposed to being comfortable,
03:20 which it kind of is, and we'll get into that later on,
03:22 but that is what this is designed to do,
03:24 and I love the fact that they use these cars here
03:26 in Australia for track days and media driving as well.
03:29 It just shows you how confident they are on the product.
03:31 Down the front here, have a look at this lip.
03:33 So it's got GT4 RS in it, more cooling behind there.
03:36 You can see the ducts off to the side as well.
03:38 A bit of aero there as well,
03:40 and it is worth pointing out,
03:41 every hole and crevice you see in this car is functional.
03:44 It's there for a reason, whether it be cooling or aero,
03:47 it actually serves a purpose.
03:48 So you can see stuff like this here is there for aero.
03:51 This'll do over 300 kilometers an hour as a top speed.
03:55 This is very low, and one of the things you can option,
03:59 which I would highly recommend
04:00 if you are buying one of these,
04:01 and if you're buying just the standard GT4,
04:03 is a front lifter.
04:04 Front lifter allows the nose of this to lift up
04:06 because when we go for a drive later on,
04:08 I'll give you an idea of how this can be inconvenient
04:10 if you don't have that front lifter.
04:11 Ground clearance is just over 100 millimeters.
04:14 So this sits 20 mil lower than a GT4,
04:17 and it sits 30 mil lower than a standard Cayman.
04:19 So it gives you an idea of how much
04:21 this hugs the road to give you all of the aero advantage
04:24 that you can get.
04:25 Whip over to the side here.
04:27 Look at this, another bit of aero there as well.
04:29 So that duct spits out around the side here.
04:32 So the wheels, 20-inch alloy wheels, front and rear,
04:34 245 at the front.
04:36 In terms of tires, 295 at the rear.
04:39 This comes standard with steel brakes.
04:41 They're over 400 mil in diameter, six-piston caliper.
04:44 It's a monoblock caliper up the front here.
04:46 And then at the back, it is a four-piston arrangement
04:48 at just under 400 mil for rotor size,
04:50 cross-drilled both front and rear.
04:52 You can option carbon ceramic brakes as well
04:55 if you do need those.
04:56 You can also option magnesium wheels.
04:58 They're just under $30,000 as an additional cost.
05:01 Light builds into that side section there.
05:03 This is where you put your fuel in.
05:04 So you pop that open, cap there comes down.
05:07 Love this center lock here, the single piece arrangement.
05:11 This is very cool.
05:12 It is kind of something that really stands out on Porsches.
05:15 I say this a lot on 911s too,
05:17 and it is just a very cool sort of set up there.
05:20 Have a look at this as well.
05:21 Just the way that this cuts open just there.
05:24 It is just all about getting as much aero
05:27 as you can out of this package.
05:29 The downforce elements on this car are just insane.
05:32 If you look underneath this,
05:33 and I'm gonna just overlay some clips here
05:36 from a guy that did a video on setting up your GT4
05:40 for track driving.
05:41 You can adjust virtually everything under there.
05:43 The sway bar has three different settings
05:45 you can run through.
05:46 You have to get it up on a hoist to do all this sort of stuff
05:48 but you as the owner of this vehicle
05:50 can make all of those adjustments yourself.
05:51 You can adjust tow, camber.
05:53 You really are in full control of this,
05:55 including the wing as well, which I'll show you.
05:57 When we get down the back, GT4 RS there on the side.
06:01 That wing mirror is carbon as well
06:02 as part of that Wisec package.
06:04 What you will notice here,
06:05 this has barely any safety features at all.
06:06 So you've got no indicator here,
06:08 you've got no camera built into there,
06:09 there's no puddle lights.
06:10 It is all about saving as much weight as you can.
06:13 Even the wing mirror has aero too, which is really cool.
06:17 You'll notice here as well, there is no proximity sensor
06:20 because this is all about weight saving again.
06:23 So you just have to pull the key out to unlock the car
06:25 and to get inside it.
06:26 This, this is normally a window in a regular Cayman
06:30 and even the GT4.
06:31 Here on the GT4 RS, this is actually a duct for the engine.
06:35 So again, carbon here as part of that Wisec package
06:38 and on the side there too.
06:39 What Porsche had to do,
06:40 because this car has to have a petrol particulate filter,
06:43 they didn't want the driver to not hear
06:46 what the engine was doing.
06:47 Yes, it is a little muted on the outside
06:49 compared to cars without petrol particulate filters,
06:51 but they wanted to take that experience to the next level.
06:54 They didn't want to plumb in sound through the speakers
06:56 or anything like that.
06:57 So this goes into a throttle body.
06:59 When you are on the throttle,
07:00 depending on how many revs you're doing,
07:02 you can hear everything happening right behind your head.
07:05 Your head is there, air comes in through here,
07:08 you hear everything going on.
07:09 So it is an unreal sound when you really do sort of get up.
07:12 A little bit more cooling there to the side as well.
07:14 So that ducts into that engine,
07:16 which sits mid-engine to this vehicle.
07:18 That engine's from a 911 GT3,
07:20 has been rotated to fit into here,
07:22 but gives you an idea of just how serious they are.
07:25 Four litre, flat six, it is unreal.
07:27 Up the back here, so these are your big 295s.
07:29 Again, big set of brakes there too, four piston caliper.
07:33 This should be pretty decent
07:34 in terms of stopping credentials, I would have thought.
07:37 Okay, come around to the back with me.
07:38 So a little bit more carbon here
07:40 as part of that package that I mentioned before.
07:43 This is adjustable too,
07:44 so you can undo these screws
07:45 and then increase your downforce as required.
07:48 The whole purpose of that is,
07:49 if you're setting this up for a racetrack,
07:51 depending on what the racetrack is configured like,
07:53 you might want more downforce in a corner,
07:55 or potentially you don't want the drag,
07:56 so you'll have it sit flatter.
07:58 That'll still give you some downforce,
07:59 but allows you to achieve higher speeds.
08:02 You then still have a spoiler integrated here
08:04 into the rear as well.
08:05 So this just really elevates it to another level
08:08 with that dual spoiler setup.
08:10 Love the fact that you can see,
08:11 oh, well you can see the top of the engine
08:13 and also that titanium roll cage there too,
08:16 labeled water and oil there
08:17 if you do need to do any of the servicing on your own,
08:19 but I suspect a lot of owners will just take it into Porsche
08:21 to get it set up for track days.
08:22 There is a little bit of storage too
08:24 that I'll run you through in just a sec.
08:25 So Porsche badge just there,
08:27 brake light built into there, GT4 RS.
08:29 Again, no badges.
08:31 This is just a sticker that they've put on there.
08:33 I guess it's for weight saving.
08:35 Dual exhaust pipes there with an enormous diffuser.
08:38 In fact, from that same video before,
08:40 some of the diffusers that exist under the car are crazy too.
08:44 And again, they're removable as well
08:45 if you want to adjust the aero
08:47 and how this performs on the racetrack.
08:49 So it really is in the driver's hands
08:51 how they want to configure this.
08:52 It is designed to turn up to the racetrack and just go hard.
08:55 So let me know in the comment section below,
08:57 what do you reckon about the GT4 RS?
08:59 It is ridiculous, both in terms of price and what it does.
09:04 Would you buy one?
09:05 And if not, what are you buying instead?
09:07 Why are you not buying this?
09:08 Let me know in the comment section below.
09:10 So we are inside the GT4 RS.
09:13 Let's start off with the key.
09:14 So you've got the Porsche logo up the top there.
09:17 Unlock, lock.
09:18 You've got a button for the front boot,
09:20 a button for the rear boot,
09:22 and then blank on the other side.
09:24 Now, normally this is a proximity sensing key,
09:26 but like I said before, this has no proximity sensing stuff.
09:29 It's actually a manual key.
09:30 So you're gonna put that in the slot here
09:32 and then turn that when you're ready
09:34 for everything to fire up.
09:36 So let's talk about the interior.
09:37 Look, the Cayman's been out for a while now,
09:39 and it is definitely starting to look dated.
09:41 Like it's got a smaller version
09:43 of the big infotainment screen we've seen
09:45 in other Porsche products.
09:46 But they have tried to sort of jazz this up a little bit
09:49 with a whole bunch of this race text material,
09:51 which is their version of Alcantara.
09:53 So they've kitted it out all over the place,
09:55 and this car has a number of options fitted to it as well.
09:58 So they've just extended it as far as it'll possibly go.
10:01 You will notice though, as well, with this material,
10:04 that over time in the places where you're holding on
10:07 to the wheel the most, it will start to wear.
10:09 And even here on that yellow center marker there
10:12 for the steering wheel, you can see that's starting
10:13 to sort of discolor there as well.
10:15 So it's worth keeping that sort of stuff in mind.
10:18 But there are sort of limitless options you can throw
10:21 at a vehicle like this when it comes to customizing it
10:23 and making it your own.
10:24 And because this has the Y-Side package,
10:26 you can see it's got that badge there,
10:28 and it's also embroidered here on the headrest as well.
10:30 So people will know that you've spent a little bit extra
10:32 on your Cayman to make it lighter again.
10:36 Also interesting, gone are actual door handles.
10:39 They've got these little sort of things here.
10:41 It's like a strap, and you pull it from this direction
10:44 to open it.
10:45 You can see it sort of there.
10:47 Now, in terms of your material,
10:49 so all this stuff is really soft to the touch.
10:51 It all feels, looks nice and premium.
10:54 Carbon inlays there as well.
10:56 And on your touch points, all of this stuff
10:58 is nice and soft to touch.
11:01 How soft is it?
11:02 Well, we've got our durometer.
11:03 We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
11:06 If you wanna see how this car compares to others
11:07 that we've tested before,
11:09 have a look at the link in the description below.
11:11 Build quality.
11:12 So let's have a little look.
11:14 That is all very nice and solid.
11:18 And our door slam test.
11:20 Let's have a listen.
11:21 Yeah, sounds good.
11:26 So let's talk about infotainment.
11:28 You've got this sort of fairly small
11:30 eight-inch infotainment system.
11:32 Like I said, it is a newer version
11:34 of the infotainment system originally fitted to the Cayman,
11:37 but it is what it is.
11:40 There's nothing too crash hot.
11:41 You've got satellite navigation built into there.
11:44 You also have AM, FM, and DAB, digital radio.
11:48 That's all plumbed through an eight-speaker sound system.
11:51 You can get an optional sound system as well
11:53 if you want better sound,
11:54 but I don't think it's worth wasting money on,
11:55 given you're gonna be listening to the engine
11:57 most of the time anyway.
11:59 In addition to all of that,
12:00 you do have smartphone mirroring
12:01 in the form of Apple CarPlay.
12:03 It is wired, though.
12:04 I'll show you what that looks like.
12:06 So yeah, full screen integration,
12:08 but it's actually nice and fast as well.
12:10 It's not too bad, which is good.
12:11 You also have a CD player.
12:14 Look at that.
12:14 Not many cars on the road at the moment with a CD player.
12:16 Quite impressive.
12:18 Yeah, outside of that,
12:19 there's nothing really too interesting there.
12:21 Head of the driver.
12:21 This is where you're gonna find
12:23 another little screen just off to the side there.
12:26 You also have analog gauges, which I love.
12:27 I know that Porsche is going to, you know,
12:30 screens and all that sort of stuff,
12:31 but I just love seeing this analog gauge,
12:33 especially the fact that it shows 10,000 RPM on it
12:36 and 330 kilometers an hour, which is cool.
12:40 And the screen on the right,
12:41 you can flick between all the different things on there,
12:43 which I'll show you when we go for a bit of a drive.
12:45 But yeah, all pretty sort of straightforward to use.
12:47 You'll notice here on the steering wheel,
12:48 there are no buttons for any of the cruise control
12:52 or navigation or anything like that.
12:54 So it is sort of pretty bland here.
12:56 It is just the steering wheel, not much else.
12:58 So safety.
12:59 Look, this is going to be a very short discussion
13:01 because this has virtually no safety features.
13:04 I mentioned before, you've got no blind spot monitoring
13:06 or really anything in here.
13:08 I don't know.
13:10 I think I understand it
13:11 because this is virtually a race car for the road,
13:14 but given it is a road car, some of that stuff,
13:17 maybe it weighs a lot
13:18 and that's where they got their savings from,
13:20 but you can make your own decisions
13:21 on how safe you want to be while you're driving.
13:24 But as part of that Wisecar package,
13:26 this also has the Club Sport package,
13:28 which means you get this stuff here,
13:30 which is a six point harness, which is kind of cool.
13:34 You do, so you can just use this.
13:36 The problem is that when you then
13:39 have your seatbelt back in,
13:41 you get all these buzzes about your seatbelt
13:43 not being attached.
13:43 So you kind of have to put everything on
13:45 when you're using that, which looks a little bit funny.
13:47 But this also has the optional roll cage attached there
13:51 as well.
13:52 So you can say that when you're looking
13:53 in your rear vision mirror.
13:54 The package also gives you a fire extinguisher,
13:56 auto dimming rear vision mirror.
13:57 I guess that's a good thing.
13:58 You have just standard cruise control,
14:00 no radar cruise control or anything like that.
14:02 No front parking sensors,
14:03 but you do have rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.
14:06 I'll show you what that looks like.
14:08 Quality is actually not terrible.
14:11 I can kind of read what's going on on the suitcase there.
14:14 So yeah, it is fine for what it is.
14:15 And this is what the horn sounds like.
14:17 (horn honking)
14:18 Now, what about your practicality?
14:20 And we'll start off with your connectivity.
14:21 You have one USB port here in the center.
14:25 You have one USB port here in the glove box.
14:27 There's also a 12 volt outlet down there.
14:29 In terms of storing your phone,
14:31 there's really nowhere for it to go.
14:32 You have to really put it in here.
14:35 And you might be asking yourself,
14:36 "Where do I put my coffee and other stuff like that, Paul?"
14:39 Well, have a look at this.
14:40 Great little contraption.
14:41 So this has two cup holders
14:44 that deploy from the dashboard there.
14:46 And then you adjust the size of this
14:48 to dictate what kind of cup fits in there.
14:50 So my coffee cup this morning,
14:52 it actually all worked really nicely.
14:54 I was able to fit that in and grab it when I needed to
14:56 without any dramas.
14:57 Try a normal bottle in there.
15:00 Yeah, that fits very nicely.
15:02 Now, I'm just taking the piss here,
15:04 but let's see if that fits.
15:06 No, it doesn't fit.
15:07 And so it shouldn't.
15:09 But yeah, I think that's a very clever idea
15:10 that makes up for some of the space you lose
15:12 here in this center tunnel.
15:14 In terms of your other storage,
15:15 you've got this center console here
15:18 that is kind of taken up by your phone or keys.
15:20 There is a storage slot here in the door,
15:22 but you don't really sort of fit too much in there.
15:24 And then finally, you have a glove box here
15:26 that is pretty sort of reasonably sized.
15:28 Now, what about your comfort?
15:30 So you have dual zone automatic climate control
15:33 up the front.
15:34 You can option heated seats if you want them.
15:37 Look, the seats, they don't look very comfortable
15:39 and it is difficult to get in and out of the car,
15:41 but once you're in there,
15:43 they actually are pretty comfy
15:44 and you sort of, yeah, you just enjoy sitting here.
15:47 They don't have a great deal of configurability though.
15:50 So you can go forwards and backwards
15:52 and it is manually adjustable.
15:54 You then have an electric adjustment to go up and down,
15:57 but there really isn't much else you can do.
15:58 I would love to be able to bring that seat back forward
16:01 a little bit, but yeah, it is just a minor complaint.
16:04 The steering wheel offers both tilts and reach adjustment.
16:08 And on our reach test,
16:09 all of this stuff is very easy to reach
16:11 while you're driving.
16:12 Now, cargo space.
16:13 This is what I love about the Cayman.
16:14 You've got two little cargo slots.
16:16 So you've got one up the front here, crack that open.
16:18 This is 125 liters in size.
16:22 Show you what it looks like with my bag in there.
16:24 There you go.
16:25 It's kind of big enough to fit maybe a medium sized suitcase
16:27 plus a laptop bag, which is nice.
16:30 You can actually see there as well,
16:32 that carbon weave from the bonnet there,
16:35 but also the intakes that dart into this front section
16:39 down the bottom here as well, which is kind of cool.
16:41 Come around to the back.
16:42 I'll show you what that storage slot looks like.
16:44 So around the back, you have slightly more space,
16:46 a bit over 130 liters.
16:48 So you can pop your bag in there.
16:50 Not the ideal space simply because you don't really
16:53 have a huge amount of room,
16:54 but a couple of little storage nooks off to the side there.
16:58 So it's actually not too bad, but yeah,
17:01 I love that detail up close as well.
17:03 You can see exactly what's going on there.
17:05 That roll cage too, absolutely unreal.
17:08 (car engine roaring)
17:11 Okay, so we've just hit the road in the GT4 RS.
17:16 So I'm gonna pre-warn you now,
17:18 it's gonna get loud in here
17:19 and yeah, if when we edit this,
17:22 you can't hear anything I'm saying,
17:23 we'll put some subtitles down or something
17:25 because it is unbelievable.
17:28 So let's start off with the basics.
17:30 What are we working with here?
17:31 So I mentioned earlier that this uses the engine
17:33 out of the 911 GT3.
17:35 It's just been turned, but it is the same engine.
17:37 It is a four liter naturally aspirated,
17:40 six cylinder petrol engine.
17:41 It makes 368 kilowatts of power and 450 newton meters
17:48 of torque and that's all made it
17:49 to a seven speed dual clutch transmission.
17:52 Now there is something I love about this setup.
17:54 If I come to a full stop,
17:55 you'll make sure stop starts off
17:57 'cause no one wants that.
17:58 I come to a full stop and I roll out of the brake,
18:01 it doesn't move anywhere.
18:03 If I roll onto the throttle,
18:04 it moves off like a torque converter.
18:06 So I don't know what kind of magic they weave at Porsche,
18:09 but whatever they do with dual clutches is incredible
18:12 because this is exactly how a dual clutch should be.
18:15 It shouldn't be fussy and annoying
18:16 and it should just be smooth.
18:18 So I don't know why you need to spend $300,000
18:20 to get a smooth dual clutch,
18:21 but Porsche has absolutely nailed it here.
18:24 Now, what about your fuel consumption?
18:26 I know that it is highly irrelevant in a car like this,
18:28 but Porsche claims a figure of just under 13 liters
18:31 per 100 Ks.
18:32 We are currently sitting on 12.5, which is unreal.
18:37 So that was highway drive here
18:40 and three hot laps of the circuit.
18:43 It is incredible how little fuel that is.
18:45 Like I would expect that to be in the twenties,
18:47 given how colossally quick this is.
18:49 So yeah, pretty impressive figure there.
18:51 Just on that screen as well is really cool.
18:53 So you've got your sport chrono clock there
18:55 and you've also got a gear change,
18:56 G-force, like this as well.
18:58 So this is basically the torque curve for the engine.
19:01 So as I apply more throttle right now, we're at 2000 RPM,
19:04 I'll apply more throttle, we reach peak torque,
19:07 and then as more RPMs come on,
19:09 it starts climbing that torque curve, which is pretty unreal.
19:13 So now, the other thing I want to mention now as well
19:17 is the red line.
19:19 It has a 9,000 RPM red line.
19:24 So when we go for our faster drive,
19:25 I'm gonna just be quiet
19:26 and let you guys listen to this for a lap
19:28 so you can experience that.
19:29 But 9,000 RPM in a road car is virtually unheard of.
19:34 To have 9,000 RPM, literally 15 centimeters from your head
19:38 is just something else altogether.
19:41 So we'll have a little look at that as we go.
19:43 What is it like to live with as a daily?
19:47 Look, it is okay.
19:50 It's not as bad as stuff like Aventador, for example.
19:54 That is really hard to navigate and park
19:56 and that sort of day-to-day stuff.
19:58 This, on the other hand, is actually pretty straightforward.
20:00 You can see clearly down the front there,
20:02 where you can see the edges of the car.
20:03 You do have to watch that lip because if you catch a curb,
20:07 you'll literally rip the whole front end off the car.
20:09 So you have to be very careful
20:10 when you're parking up against curbs
20:12 'cause there are no front parking sensors there.
20:13 So I always leave it all the way back
20:15 just to be on the safe side.
20:16 Wing mirrors are big enough so you can see down the sides.
20:18 There is no blind spot monitoring,
20:19 so it is a little tricky to catch stuff there,
20:22 especially with that window closed in with the air vent.
20:24 In terms of road noise, it is pretty noisy in here.
20:27 And it's not so much the road noise.
20:29 When you're doing highway speeds like 100 Ks an hour,
20:31 it's sitting at 3,000 RPM.
20:33 That seven speed is sort of,
20:34 the ratios are tuned that way.
20:36 So you do get a lot of sort of engine noise
20:38 before you hear any tire noise.
20:39 So it is worth keeping.
20:40 And maybe you can just turn the volume up if you need to.
20:43 And what is it like on the sideways?
20:46 But you've been wondering that for quite some time now.
20:49 We'll bump it up to 130.
20:51 (car engine roaring)
20:53 So there's 130 there.
20:56 As expected, it is perfectly fine.
21:02 Stiff suspension like this,
21:03 it is just sort of sucking it up nicely.
21:05 Speaking of suspension,
21:07 what I love sitting in here is I can hear
21:10 the dampers actuating behind my head as well.
21:13 The time we hit a bump,
21:14 you can hear that sort of noise as the damper actuates.
21:17 It is such a visceral experience sitting in this car.
21:19 You know everything that is happening.
21:21 You know everything that's going on.
21:23 It is just quite an exciting place to be seated,
21:26 to be hearing all of this going on around you.
21:29 Okay, so because we're testing this
21:31 like every other car we test,
21:32 we're gonna go down our bumpy road.
21:34 That's all in comfort.
21:36 Let's see what this is like.
21:37 This is like the worst road in Australia.
21:40 Let's see how well this handles at 90 Ks an hour.
21:44 Gee, so far so good.
21:46 It's actually surprisingly good.
21:50 Okay, I've got our condensed sine wave here.
21:53 Oh, that is unreal.
21:54 It is just falling into every one of those divots.
21:56 Wow.
21:59 This is unreal.
22:00 To think that they can engineer a car
22:03 that is as comfortable as it is across here.
22:07 It is seriously, seriously cool.
22:10 So look, the suspension is firm.
22:13 There's no getting around that.
22:14 It is adaptively damped,
22:16 so you go between normal and firm,
22:18 or firm and firmer.
22:21 But in and around town, it's perfectly fine.
22:22 It is actually surprisingly comfortable,
22:24 despite the fact it is very much
22:26 a race-focused suspension setup.
22:28 When it does come to speed humps and stuff,
22:31 that's where you do have to be on your best behaviour
22:33 and use the lifter,
22:34 because even small speed humps,
22:36 I think the limit in Australia
22:37 is 75 millimetres for the speed hump height.
22:40 Problem with this is it's just over 100 mil
22:42 in terms of height,
22:43 but when you go over the speed hump,
22:45 the car drops down off the speed hump
22:46 and you get a little bit of compression,
22:48 and you can hit the bottom of the car on a speed hump
22:50 if you don't have that front lifter active.
22:52 So it is worth keeping that in mind.
22:54 If you are planning on buying one of these,
22:56 do spend the money on the front lifter.
22:58 It is well worth the investment, trust me.
23:00 Now, what does it all feel like behind the wheel?
23:05 So we're just here in the normal mode,
23:07 and I'll keep it in that just for the moment.
23:09 When you get on the throttle, it's highly responsive.
23:14 450 newton metres doesn't sound like a huge amount,
23:17 but it is a considerable amount
23:19 when you look at the car's weight.
23:20 So it's only around that 1400 kilo mark
23:23 with a full tank of fuel.
23:24 And then in addition to that,
23:25 you are talking about a car that revs
23:27 all the way up to 9,000 rpm.
23:29 Peak power and torque figures are insanely high as well.
23:32 You're talking closer to that 9,000 rpm figure
23:34 for peak power and peak torque
23:36 being around the 6,000, 7,000 rpm mark.
23:39 So it is a super high number,
23:41 and you certainly feel it behind the wheel.
23:43 It starts really boogying once you get up into that
23:46 higher end of the rev band.
23:47 But in and around the city,
23:48 you have more than enough sort of poke
23:49 to get in and out of little situations.
23:51 There are sort of never a time where you think,
23:53 oh, this is underpowered or anything like that.
23:55 It really just gets up and moves.
23:56 And it makes you wonder just the experience
23:59 in the GT2 RS in comparison.
24:01 I haven't had a chance to drive that,
24:03 but that is turbocharged,
24:04 and it is just like a whole nother level of craziness
24:07 on top of this.
24:08 And this is just insane as it is.
24:09 So yeah, that is pretty cool as well.
24:11 Okay, let's go for a spin here.
24:15 Being an RS model, it's all pretty straightforward.
24:17 You have stability control off,
24:18 stability and traction control off,
24:20 and that is all fully off.
24:22 And you have a PDK sport mode and an exhaust mode.
24:24 So I'm gonna put it into PDK sport
24:26 for our first lap with exhaust open.
24:28 I'm gonna let the car do all the shifting.
24:31 Listen to that, that is unreal.
24:33 There's no fake stuff plumbed into the cabin here.
24:35 It is all absolutely genuine.
24:37 All right.
24:39 (car engine roaring)
24:42 Oh.
24:44 Now the tires need a warmup,
24:47 so I'm not gonna be going too fast.
24:49 This car is well beyond my driving ability.
24:52 So I'm just gonna drive it as,
24:54 I guess a normal punch of wood on a windy road
24:56 and give you that feedback.
24:58 So steering feel is amazing.
24:59 It's so direct.
25:01 (car engine roaring)
25:04 You just feel everything that's going on.
25:08 The brakes are fantastic as well.
25:10 There is a lot of feedback through the pedal
25:12 and you really just don't feel at any point
25:14 like the car's not going to pull up in time.
25:17 Even over the tram tracks at the back here,
25:19 it's still really sure of itself.
25:22 (car engine roaring)
25:25 Part of this track has been resurfaced up the back here.
25:29 So I'm gonna have to go a little gentler here
25:31 to what I would normally do,
25:32 but let's give it a little stab on the back straight.
25:35 We'll see how it goes.
25:37 I'll roll into this now.
25:38 (car engine roaring)
25:41 Oh my God.
25:47 That noise is insane.
25:52 Absolutely insane.
25:53 (car engine roaring)
25:57 (car engine roaring)
26:00 Holy crap.
26:02 It is like right behind your head.
26:04 You hear everything that's going on.
26:06 It is just unbelievable.
26:09 Like manufacturers can make cars as fast as they want.
26:13 This is simply a visceral experience.
26:16 I am just at one with the car here
26:19 and the noises that it's making
26:20 are just absolutely next level.
26:22 If you love your cars,
26:24 you cannot beat this noise.
26:27 Like it is just on another level altogether.
26:30 (car engine roaring)
26:33 And you know what we might actually do now
26:36 that I think of it?
26:37 I'm going to pull over and we're gonna do this properly.
26:42 I'm going to fit my racing harness
26:45 to be the ultimate track day wanker.
26:52 So here we go.
26:53 I'll get my normal seat belts off.
26:55 Get rid of that.
26:56 Get my harness on.
26:58 So it's a six point harness
27:03 and I hope it's made for fat people
27:06 'cause that way I'm gonna fit otherwise.
27:08 And so far so good.
27:10 So that goes into there.
27:11 That goes into there.
27:14 Another bit over here.
27:15 Pull that up as well.
27:19 I can just imagine if Mark Webber was driving this car
27:21 at the Formula One,
27:22 he would not have it anywhere near as loose
27:24 as I'm going to have it right now.
27:26 I think I've already muffed that up.
27:27 So that has to go into there.
27:29 That has to go into there.
27:32 That has to go into there.
27:33 That has to go into there.
27:35 Now we tighten everything up.
27:37 Start pulling all this.
27:39 Tighten that and that.
27:42 And that's probably going to be
27:47 the most boring footage ever,
27:49 but we'll do it properly.
27:52 (car door slams)
27:54 All right, that is fully tight.
27:56 Now, unfortunately, I'm gonna have to put this on as well
27:58 'cause the steering wheel,
27:59 sorry, the seatbelt buzzer's just gonna keep going off.
28:02 So this is going to look totally stupid,
28:04 but here we go anyway.
28:06 Let's head out for another lap on the track.
28:08 Okay, so we're properly belted in.
28:16 I'm gonna put it into hard suspension mode now as well.
28:20 I'll do some...
28:21 Oh, that noise is just insane.
28:24 The tyres are a little warmer now.
28:27 All right, I'm gonna be quiet
28:33 and just let you listen to the car.
28:36 (car engine roaring)
28:39 (car engine roaring)
28:43 (car engine roaring)
28:46 (car engine roaring)
28:50 (car engine roaring)
28:53 (car engine roaring)
29:04 (car engine roaring)
29:17 (car engine roaring)
29:20 That was unreal.
29:32 (laughs)
29:34 That was so cool.
29:35 Oh man.
29:37 I just, yeah, I've driven a lot of cars,
29:41 but this is just like,
29:42 I can't even describe how this is making me feel right now.
29:46 You imagine the day when EVs are driving around the place
29:49 and everyone's going fast in a straight line,
29:51 all that sort of stuff,
29:52 and then someone has one of these in their garage at home.
29:55 Like, yeah, I think that says everything you need to know.
29:59 Okay, time to do a little bit of performance testing.
30:05 Excited for this.
30:06 So yeah, it has unfortunately been raining here a little bit,
30:09 so I don't know how well we're gonna go
30:12 with hooking up here,
30:13 but I'm gonna give it a shot anyway.
30:16 I have to pick a different line
30:17 'cause our normal one has water in it.
30:19 So it has a claimed zero to 100 time of 3.4 seconds.
30:22 So I'll put this all in the most aggressive settings.
30:26 And then launch control is basically just foot on the brake,
30:30 foot on throttle.
30:31 It'll come up saying launch, and then away we go.
30:34 So we're gonna go through to 120 Ks an hour,
30:37 so I can see our overtaking times as well.
30:39 We'll come back and do a break as well.
30:40 So here we go.
30:41 Oh, that sounds so good.
30:44 (car engine roaring)
30:47 I just wish you could be here in the car
30:57 with me listening to that sound.
31:00 It is seriously ridiculous.
31:03 Oh man, all right, let's have a little look there.
31:06 I don't even care how fast this is
31:07 'cause that is so much fun.
31:09 So yeah, 3.67 seconds.
31:11 Typically with a Porsche, you will beat their time,
31:13 but because it is wet out there,
31:15 we're not gonna be able to do that,
31:16 but still 3.67 seconds is seriously unreal.
31:20 80 to 120, 1.94 seconds.
31:23 That is ridiculous.
31:25 So that is the time you're going to achieve
31:27 if you try and overtake someone.
31:29 For a naturally aspirated car,
31:30 that is just otherworldly.
31:33 That is so cool.
31:34 All right, time to do our break from 100 Ks an hour.
31:37 Definitely don't need much room to get it to 100.
31:42 Just over 100 and I'll slam the anchors down.
31:44 So here we go.
31:45 Okay, okay, let's have a little look at that.
31:54 Again, it was wet, so I don't know how good that's gonna be.
31:56 So 100 to zero, 2.73 seconds and 37 meters.
32:01 So yeah, I reckon that's a little off the pace there.
32:03 It should be around that 35 meter mark,
32:06 but yeah, it is still slightly damp around here.
32:08 So still really impressed with that figure for what it is.
32:11 And now, our reverse test.
32:14 80 kilometers an hour in reverse.
32:29 There is nothing this car won't do.
32:32 That is ridiculous.
32:33 If you do want to see how the GT4 RS compares
32:36 to other cars that we've tested before
32:38 in terms of any of those performance stats,
32:41 have a look at the link in the description below
32:43 and you can see how it goes against other cars.
32:45 Okay, so last thing I wanted to show you here
32:47 is just what happens if you switch everything off.
32:49 So he's push and hold, ESC plus traction off,
32:52 and everything is properly off.
32:54 My skill level is nowhere near what you need
32:58 to be able to drift this car,
32:59 but I'm just gonna do a very basic first gear
33:02 into second gear, our power slide here.
33:05 Just so we can see what it feels like.
33:08 Remembering this is mid-engine,
33:09 so it'll be interesting to see how this goes.
33:11 It's actually surprisingly controllable there.
33:23 Okay, we might try second gear here.
33:26 Curious to see how this goes.
33:28 Anyway, yeah, that's gonna require
33:38 a whole lot of skill that I absolutely don't have,
33:40 but moral of the story here is this car is seriously unreal.
33:44 And I love the fact that if you are skilled enough
33:46 to be able to do crazy stuff in this,
33:48 you just push and hold that button.
33:49 There is no drift mode, no sort of special handholding stuff.
33:53 You just do that and away you go.
33:55 Rest of the time, you don't need
33:57 any of these fancy drive modes
33:59 because it has just so much mechanical grip
34:03 that if you exceed that,
34:04 no electronic systems are ever going
34:06 to be able to save you.
34:09 (engine revving)
34:11 Okay, so the sky is blue and the GT4 RS is unreal.
34:18 I'm not telling you anything you don't already know here.
34:21 And I don't know, you probably haven't really learned much
34:23 from this review, but you just got to see me.
34:26 Very happy today.
34:27 And it is an unreal machine.
34:28 I know the price is just out of this world,
34:31 but the experience and the smile it delivers you,
34:35 I just think that the Porsche engineers
34:36 know exactly what they're doing.
34:38 And this is just testament to just how incredible
34:42 they have become at just honing this bit by bit by bit
34:46 and then creating a machine here that is just the king
34:50 of vehicles in that price bracket.
34:51 It is seriously cool.
34:53 So absolutely love it.
34:54 Would I own one as a daily?
34:56 No, and that's, I think, not really an insult on the car.
35:00 It is made as a track weapon.
35:01 So only buy this if you are going to go to the racetrack
35:03 and actually use it.
35:05 Don't buy it if you just want to look cool
35:06 driving around daily, because you're not going
35:09 to look very cool.
35:10 Just trust me on that one.
35:10 So yeah, if you want to go to the track
35:12 and pretty much beat anyone at the track, that is your car.
35:16 So let me know what you reckon in the comments section below.
35:20 Have you bought one of these?
35:21 If you have, let me know what you think of it.
35:23 How's it been?
35:23 Are you enjoying it?
35:24 Do you go to the track much?
35:25 You probably have more spare time than I do,
35:27 but let me know what you think of it
35:28 and how it's been going.
35:30 Are you looking at buying one?
35:31 And if so, let me know what color option you want to go for
35:34 and how you would spec it yourself.
