Myles Garrett talks with reporters after the Browns secure a win at home in the division vs rival Steelers.
Transcript
00:00 - Can you just talk about what a resilient bunch you guys are,
00:05 how great this was to beat the Steelers like this,
00:08 the way that you did in the Durand-Fach?
00:10 - That's what we're out there to show.
00:12 Every time we step on the field,
00:14 however tough it gets,
00:16 we're gonna be resilient down the stretch
00:17 and consistent when people are fighting.
00:19 Doesn't matter what happens throughout the game.
00:21 You're gonna get the very best out of us
00:22 for 60 minutes or more, depending on what happens.
00:26 - How did first sack come together?
00:28 Do you think it was a safety?
00:30 - Sure thought it was a safety.
00:32 I thought the next one was a safety.
00:34 So it was a little stunt that we had.
00:38 Slanted to the B-gap.
00:41 They were trying to jump me so they could
00:43 complete double team.
00:45 He got a little too wide,
00:46 was able to rip through the inside arm.
00:49 Saw Dane Lydon, saw Piggott.
00:52 I know that wasn't even worth trying to move,
00:53 he couldn't step out or move left or right
00:55 because it would have been even more obvious safety.
00:58 That's what it was.
00:59 - Hey, now beating the Ravens and the Stewards
01:03 now back to back,
01:04 what does that say about the way this team has grown?
01:07 - I think teams not only improve during the year,
01:13 but they also show you who they are.
01:15 I think we're getting to a point where we're
01:18 showing the world who we are as a team, as a defense.
01:22 And really imposing our will on the people
01:26 that we're playing and we want to continue to
01:29 express ourselves and how much we can really dominate.
01:33 - What can you say about, you know,
01:35 you guys went through losing your starting quarterback
01:37 this week, DTR comes out there
01:39 and puts on that kind of performance.
01:41 Can you talk about just how DTR did today?
01:45 - He's only gonna continue to get better.
01:47 The guy loves that level of game.
01:49 He focuses on his craft.
01:52 He's very insightful and
01:55 is always looking forward to
01:57 listening to the guys and his elders to
02:01 get new information.
02:02 He's got information from all the defense, offense.
02:04 He wants to be the very best he can be.
02:07 And he showed it, making plays down the stretch,
02:10 putting throws on the money.
02:12 And leading us down the field to
02:14 (ball bouncing)
02:16 that field goal.
02:17 I mean, the guy's only gonna continue to grow
02:20 as a person, a player, and a leader on this team.
02:23 - What went through your mind when the Steelers
02:25 got the ball and it was like a minute and 40 something
02:27 on the clock,
02:28 got the quick three now,
02:30 but just that situation right there over the years
02:35 doesn't end up the way today did,
02:37 but just what was going through your mind at that moment?
02:41 - Being here, back and making plays,
02:45 just do what I tell them.
02:46 Don't leave it all up to the field.
02:49 This is where heart means more than skill at this moment.
02:52 So, whatever happens, you're in for the take on this drive.
02:57 - I know this is a little tiny thing,
03:00 or I think it is a little tiny thing,
03:01 but it looked like you got poked in the eye
03:03 or something during the game.
03:04 Was that any sort of a big deal, small deal,
03:09 got over it, no big deal?
03:10 What was that?
03:11 - I mean, got over it, and feel better,
03:13 but I don't think it was intentional.
03:16 I kinda went in for a bull rush,
03:19 and don't have to, you know,
03:20 sometimes they just go as they may.
03:24 I don't think Dan is the third player at all,
03:28 just something that happened.
03:29 - Miles, after Dorian threw that interception,
03:32 and Osiyomi got the bad attack
03:33 that he was supposed to bring out on that drive,
03:36 how key is that to not let that moment
03:38 sort of spiral things out of control?
03:39 - We have to pull the momentum before it starts to rise.
03:45 And we had a bad give up on that for several years,
03:50 that seven yard run, that was uncharacteristic of us,
03:53 and we had to clean that up,
03:54 but it was a matter of making the plays
03:56 that we need to make, and being where we're supposed to be.
03:59 You know, we were just a couple of steps slow
04:00 when they were making plays,
04:02 and they had that kind of talent on their offense.
04:05 Us being able to slow them down,
04:08 or make them go back to the drawing board,
04:09 but take more time possession,
04:12 make some, take some of the playbook,
04:14 and start to let us in our area, like I said.
04:18 - What did it mean to you to have Nick Chubb
04:20 introduce you for the game,
04:21 and then you saw him squirt word at somebody left,
04:24 but you know, fired everybody up again?
04:26 What was that like?
04:27 - Well, he never came up to me.
04:28 (laughing)
04:30 No, I loved seeing Nick and the praise he deserves.
04:34 He's a hell of a guy, an outstanding player.
04:37 We're not gonna see another one like him for quite a while.
04:41 And I'm just glad to have him all around us at games,
04:46 and can't wait till he's back, you know, suited up,
04:49 and we're gonna continue to play for him,
04:51 and do our very best, 'cause he's the guy.
04:54 - How hard is it to lose a walk in the middle?
04:57 - Thank God, just dropping everything.
04:59 (laughing)
05:02 I got to do that, and it's tough, but he's always with us.
05:08 You know, as soon as he went down, he'd talk to us.
05:11 He's, he's always up, encourage us, and still lead us.
05:15 That's never gonna change.
05:17 He's just that kind of guy, great teammate,
05:20 and he's a compassionate person,
05:23 and he wants the best out of us,
05:25 and we're always gonna try to appear guide him,
05:28 you know, in those low moments.
05:30 - Miles, you have a unique perspective,
05:32 because you've been here when this team has struggled,
05:34 and you're a focal point right now,
05:36 as you guys are really succeeding.
05:38 What is it about this team this year that's so different,
05:40 that you guys are consistently winning these nail-biting,
05:43 close games that go right down the wire?
05:45 - Nobody's taking it easy.
05:48 Whether that's in the facility, at practice,
05:53 everybody's in there to win it,
05:55 and we know what we have in the building.
05:57 It felt like before, not everyone's going all in,
06:02 and not everyone is really invested
06:05 in being a winner this year.
06:07 Can I only say, it's been like that.
06:12 It's been tough, and I think the leadership
06:15 has been a big focal point.
06:17 Not only the main guys, some of the playmakers,
06:20 and the quote-unquote stars,
06:22 but the guys who sometimes play six, seven, eight
06:27 big snaps on special teams,
06:28 or someone who builds in because the first guy is out.
06:32 Those guys are also leading.
06:34 Everyone is taking it upon themselves
06:36 to take ownership of this team,
06:39 and what their role and their job is with this team,
06:43 and really have it taken to another level,
06:45 setting the tone and not compromising.
06:48 - After losing to Sean, seeing DTR in a critical moment
06:52 lead that offense down the field to win that game,
06:54 what type of psychological boost can that give you guys?
06:58 - Leading is a tough event.
07:00 Those guys fly around.
07:01 They make some plays.
07:03 They were trying to match us, stride for stride,
07:06 and he was able to calm everything down,
07:11 get everyone settled, and make the plays he needed to.
07:15 Definitely builds confidence for him to the next week,
07:17 not only for us, but for himself.
07:20 I can do this.
07:21 Has he really opened up to what he can really do?
07:27 Maybe going down the field a little bit more,
07:28 touching the field, using his legs.
07:30 Those things, he hasn't even utilized yet.
07:33 So once the game slows down even a little bit more,
07:35 he starts seeing everything a little bit easier,
07:40 a little bit faster.
07:42 I think he'll be really dynamic.
07:46 - How about the special bond that you guys really have
07:48 with your fans here on the lakefront,
07:51 and these home games, and the energy and enthusiasm
07:54 that you guys are experiencing here?
07:55 - I mean, we'll put it all for him.
07:58 Might not deserve.
08:01 You only deserve those kind of games
08:05 when you're making those kind of plays,
08:06 and the effort is there to match.
08:09 They see the hard work, the spirit,
08:11 the passion we're putting into the game,
08:13 and how bad we want it,
08:14 and they're matching that intensity.
08:16 So we appreciate it.
08:18 We love our fans, and we love this city,
08:21 and we're gonna continue to keep on fighting
08:23 our hardest for them.
08:24 - Good.
