00:00 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:02 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> Me and two.
00:06 Definitely not on the team's mind.
00:08 They believed in me, they trusted me, I trusted my teammates.
00:11 The biggest thing I was telling myself all game was just take this one,
00:14 one play at a time.
00:15 There's times in that game where if it was week four, I would have forced it,
00:20 and had to pick, and notice it, or whatever it was.
00:22 Like I said, it's gonna be night and day when I get out there.
00:27 I've been working my tail off, but I'm just glad my teammates were there for me.
00:30 >> What was going through your mind going into that final drive?
00:32 >> Same thing that was when I first got out there and
00:36 we scored on the, I think the second drive of the game.
00:38 It's just take one play at a time, follow my keys, follow my rules.
00:42 If it's not there, take a check down.
00:44 Don't make any play worse than what it is.
00:46 >> What do you think the biggest difference was?
00:47 You guys hadn't had any success in the second half until that final drive.
00:50 So what was the difference?
00:53 >> I think we just came together.
00:54 I'd have to go back and watch the film to see how all the other drives went.
00:58 But I know on that last drive, from the whole linemen all the way up to
01:03 the running backs and the receivers, everybody was all locked in.
01:07 Everybody had their job, knew what their job was, and executed.
01:11 So I think that was probably the biggest difference.
01:13 >> Can you talk about the fact that you had to overcome, I found it amazing,
01:18 the drop passes in that game.
01:20 But you just kept going back to your guys and showing faith in that.
01:23 How do you think that helped when you got to that last quarter?
01:26 >> I mean, shoot, did you see my first start?
01:27 [LAUGH] I mean, those guys had faith in me after that game.
01:31 And I couldn't have no choice but to have faith in those guys today.
01:34 Dave's gonna make a bunch of plays this year, Sam and Elijah and
01:37 all those guys.
01:38 So I have no choice but to get the ball out of my hands and
01:41 get it in their hands, cuz that's a special thing.
01:42 >> Starr, Joe Petonio said that you were a little loud in the huddle to start
01:46 the game.
01:47 How pumped up were you for this?
01:49 >> I wouldn't say pumped up.
01:51 That's probably the reason I lost my voice.
01:53 I was just trying to make sure everybody heard the play,
01:55 making sure no operation stuff.
01:58 I think, do we have any penalties?
02:00 >> One.
02:01 >> Okay, so I think it was a pretty good day operationally.
02:05 Being at home, that was one of my key things to come in this game.
02:07 So I thank Joel for advising me to quiet it down,
02:12 cuz obviously my voice is going out.
02:15 >> Or did you hear crowd chanting in the TR there at the end?
02:19 >> I did, I heard a little bit in the beginning and then towards the end.
02:22 >> What about, talk about the emotion of having Nick Chubb before the game,
02:27 on the scoreboard, and just what did that mean to you guys?
02:30 >> Yeah, I mean, he's huge.
02:32 I think after that, Kareem starts snapping and jumping over people.
02:35 So I think we need Chubb in every game, up there in the box and
02:40 supporting us and all that stuff.
02:42 So we miss Chubb every day, and it was super cool to have him there.
02:46 >> What does this mean to you after your first game and
02:50 all the circumstances that were involved?
02:52 This is so much later in the year with so much more at stake.
02:55 How do you feel about just coming through like that?
02:59 >> Sure, I'm already focused on next week, I'm focused on going to bed.
03:02 But yeah, man, I'm super happy, glad that I can get this one for my teammates.
03:08 And actually go out there, like I said, get the reps at practice,
03:11 make mistakes throughout the week.
03:13 And so that way those mistakes don't come up on Sunday.
03:16 There were some times where there were plays I messed up in the week that we got
03:19 corrected today, and it was huge for us to come down and fix.
03:22 >> What was this week like for you, going back to when you found out you were
03:25 starting on your birthday to this moment now where you can barely talk as you watch
03:29 the games?
03:30 >> Shoot, it's been a whirlwind.
03:32 I just can't thank the fans, the fans, our whole program, and
03:37 all the guys that are there in the locker room.
03:40 Everybody's been helping me out.
03:41 Everybody's letting me know that they got my back.
03:43 From the guys walking around on the street outside when I go to a store,
03:47 to my teammates in the locker room every day.
03:50 Everybody this week has been great.
03:51 And it's only been my job a lot easier.
03:53 >> You said you wanted to get your swagger back by watching the UCLA games.
03:56 How many did you watch, and did you get your swagger back once it was over?
04:00 >> Yeah, I think we still got a long way to go to get back to that swagger.
04:04 But I definitely watched a couple,
04:06 I watched the 2021 SEA tape that everybody knew about.
04:10 And yeah, I think I'm just gonna keep working at it.
04:14 Keep leaning on my teammates, Dashaun and all the third and
04:18 fourth quarter, tell my ass to smile cuz I'm pissed at the pick I threw.
04:23 And just things like that, that's really what helped the game.
04:26 Just gotta, I get the lead on it.
04:28 >> Dashaun, you get that first completion to Elijah on that last drive.
04:33 How much did that sort of alleviate some of the pressure,
04:36 kinda allow you to relax the rest of that drive?
04:39 >> Yeah, I don't think you can really relax to that, that kick is in the field goal.
04:44 But that definitely was a huge play.
04:47 I'd say that the momentum shift of this green turtle,
04:50 that really got everybody juiced up, kinda got them all throttled.
04:54 And yeah, man, to go from there,
04:55 I think that whole drive just shows how close this team is, and how much they believe.
05:00 >> Warren, it seemed like this was a game where one turnover could have cost the game.
05:05 So how are you feeling after that, yours, and how do you collect yourself?
05:11 >> Yeah, I hope the camera doesn't have me on the TV copy after that pick,
05:15 cuz I was gonna lose it.
05:17 We talk all week, every week, about winning the turnover battle.
05:22 They hadn't given the ball up all game.
05:24 We hadn't given the ball up all game.
05:26 Tips and overthrows happen.
05:28 So you try to limit them as much as you can.
05:29 I'll go back and watch the tape.
05:30 I probably need to get to a check down on that one instead of trying to play school
05:33 tomorrow, or just throw a better ball.
05:35 Yeah, man, I was hurting.
05:38 I was frustrated.
05:39 I didn't know how the game was gonna end,
05:42 if I was gonna get the ball back, or anything like that.
05:45 So like I said, just proud, being able to trust my defense and my offense,
05:50 and the squad there would do without it.
05:52 >> Hey, you said that Sean told you to smile after that.
05:55 Did that help?
05:56 >> Yeah, definitely helped a lot.
05:58 Some other guys noticed it, and they were encouraging me as well.
06:03 Yeah, man, Sean was there the whole second half, pretty much.
06:05 Just comforting me, making sure that I'm good,
06:08 motivating me, letting me know that I'm bigger, and you can have another shot.
06:13 And I sure did.
06:15 And I was able to handle it.
06:19 >> So did David say anything to you at all,
06:23 David and Jacob at all during the game that, hey, man,
06:26 I'm gonna be there for you when you need me, after he had some-
06:28 >> I mean, I think just him taking
06:30 accountability, I was the main one trying to, I gotta throw it better.
06:33 I gotta do this.
06:34 I gotta throw it on time, or do this or do that.
06:37 He let me know, just be in the bed.
06:39 We got you, bro.
06:41 That's on me, I gotta make those plays.
06:43 But again, I'm gonna keep feeding them.
06:45 He's the best I did in America, in my opinion, so
06:47 he's definitely gonna get the ball.
06:49 >> So what's it like hearing those DTR chants as you're ready to go lead a drive
06:53 to win the game?
06:55 >> Yeah, man, I'm sure it's great for my family.
06:56 I personally, I wouldn't say I don't like it, but
06:59 I'm trying to stay focused on the game and make sure I'm doing my job.
07:02 But it is super cool to be able to look back on and see those things.
07:05 >> Family?
07:06 >> Shoot, I have maybe 20 to 30 people here from all over the country,
07:10 family, friends, everybody.
07:12 >> The little job the offensive line did, keeping you relatively clean.
07:16 I know TJ got the one sack, but by and large,
07:19 just the work they did kind of shorthanded because it was two backup tackles.
07:26 >> Yeah, man, I mean, from again, post-Dopanski's plan of the week,
07:30 to how those guys executed that plan, I couldn't ask for anything more.
07:35 It was a collective job with me getting the ball in my hands and
07:38 knowing what protections is which.
07:41 We have to make sure that everything's good.
07:44 You're gonna have those plays where you get sacks and things like that.
07:47 We try to minimize them, but I think the whole team did a hell of a job today.
07:50 So I couldn't be more proud.
07:51 >> So was this- >> Last one.
07:52 >> Was this your birthday celebration or did you do something else to celebrate
07:56 your birthday or what?
07:58 Talk about birthday week and how they did like this.
08:00 >> Yeah, so I got the call for maybe when I was on my way to Marble World downtown.
08:06 So that's when I got the call.
08:08 I ended up eating dinner there with some teammates, my girl.
08:12 And then after that, I was getting to work all week, waiting for Sunday to get here.
08:17 And now we're here, it's not a very long birthday.
08:21 >> Thanks. >> Thank you.
