Katie Town, executive director of Theatre Royal Wakefield explains why its annual pantomime helps the theatre to take more risks throughout the rest of the year.
Transcript
00:00 The pantomime is a really important part of this for our Wakefields year.
00:05 It's the point where we welcome 30,000 people from our local community through our doors
00:09 to come and see a show, to shout out, to be able to have some festive fun,
00:15 really enjoy our narrative-driven pantomime and to maybe get splashed by a water pistol if they're really lucky.
00:23 It's also really the most important part of our year from a financial point of view.
00:28 Those busy audiences and those busy bar receipts that we get at that point
00:34 really underpin our work throughout the rest of the year
00:37 and enable us to really commit to doing work with our local community
00:42 and doing a wide range of participation activities throughout the rest of the year.
00:47 So it's our busiest point of the year and a really important part of what makes our identity.
