00:00 Welcome to Cycle World, my name's Adam Child, European Correspondent and I'm here at Hinkley in the centre of the UK to unveil the new Street Triple from Triumph.
00:11 Now for those of you who don't know, the Street Triple can be tweaked into a race bike. It's already won Daytona, it's won at the Ardevant and it's won at World Supersport.
00:22 But beneath that race bike is an excellent road bike. I mean I'm old, I remember the 2007 Street Triple, I mean that was, when that came out it just was fun, it was lively, it was exciting and it was just great to ride.
00:35 And now all these years later we have a new model that I am dying to ride. So let's go through what the changes are, because we've got three different models.
00:45 We've got the R, RS and limited edition Moto 2, which we'll come on to a little bit later. But let's start with the road bike on the R.
00:54 So we've got, let me get this right, fully adjustable suspension front and rear. Correct.
00:59 We've got Brembo brakes up front. Yep. I should have written a test, this is a test isn't it? And we've got 2 PS more power. Yep, that's correct, 120 PS.
01:11 Now you can tell me more, because I'm running out of, I'm running out of notes.
01:15 Right, the R model is an absolutely phenomenal bike. We've increased the performance now, we've come up, as you say, to 2 PS.
01:23 It is focused for road use, sport road use. The ergonomics are comfortable, the seat height is very accessible, you're on an 826 mm seat height.
01:34 You can adjust that seat height further with an accessory low seat, which is 28 mm lower. Which is big, that's a big.
01:41 So that takes you under 800 mm for a seat height on a street triple. So this bike is completely accessible to anyone who wants to get on a street triple.
01:49 It's got the geometry, it's got the suspension performance, it's got the engine power and response.
01:54 And now we've got optimised cornering, ABS and traction control as standard. So we have a 6-axis IMU in there I believe.
02:02 Absolutely, and we've got a quick shifter, an up and down quick shifter as standard as well.
02:07 All standard?
02:08 Absolute standard on the R model.
02:10 And in terms of rider modes, we've got four rider modes.
02:12 Four rider modes.
02:13 Yeah, we've got road, rain, sport and a rider configurable mode.
02:17 Wow. So if we move from the R to the RS, tell us about the suspension.
02:23 Right, now we've moved on a bit now and we're looking to increase the performance to faster use probably, even more precise and more capable.
02:35 So again, as always with all our bikes, it's a complete package. We're at 130 horsepower.
02:40 So we've gone 2 horsepower up from stock on the R and we're up 7.
02:47 Yeah, that's class leading power. 130 PS really makes this bike come alive.
02:53 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And in terms of suspension, we are?
02:57 Well, it's suspension and setup. So what we've done, we've jacked the back of the bike up further to increase or reduce the headstock angle.
03:08 So the R is already at a sharp 23.7 degrees.
03:13 Which is sharp.
03:14 OK, with a 98 millimeters of trail. So it's a very agile, very precise bike.
03:19 We've gone to 23.3 degrees with the RS. OK, so that reduces the trail by another millimeter.
03:26 That's all significant. We've also got the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SPV3 tires.
03:35 So more track oriented.
03:36 Absolutely, with the Continental Conti roads on the R.
03:40 OK, so you can see we're adding the capability that you would expect and want for your track days and for high performance riding.
03:49 OK, just to clarify, what we've done is we've made the fork angle steeper.
03:53 Yeah. So it turns a little bit quicker. Yeah. We've raised the rear slightly.
03:57 Yes. We've got more power. Yeah. Gripier tires. Yeah.
04:01 And in terms of electronics. OK, before we get to electronics, suspension is different as well.
04:06 OK. OK, so we've got the big piston forks, but the separate function big, big piston forks show up on the on the R.
04:14 And we've got fully adjustable. Yes, absolutely.
04:18 And a fully adjustable monoshock rear end.
04:22 And for the RS, we've got the big piston forks that are adjustable in both legs.
04:27 All right. Again, both 41 millimeter diameter upside down forks.
04:31 But we've got an Ohlins STX 40 rear suspension unit as well. OK.
04:36 Again, obviously fully, fully adjustable. OK, we've got quite a lot of electronics now on the bikes.
04:42 We've got corner optimized ABS and traction control on all three bikes.
04:47 Yeah. OK, we've got the up and down quick shifter, the standard on all three bikes as well.
04:53 Right. Wow. Now, now what you can do with your ride by wire and your modes is to to basically dial the bike in for each of those modes.
05:02 So you've got different throttle maps. Yeah. You've got different traction control maps.
05:06 Yeah. We've even got two anti lock brake maps. So we've got a track mode for the anti lock brakes as well.
05:12 OK. OK. So depending on the mode you select, you'll get a combination of those.
05:17 And obviously you can configure your own as well in track mode. You get a lot less intervention.
05:24 OK, so the ABS is absolutely minimized on standard road ABS.
05:30 We have a degree of link in front to rear, which gives you better stopping distances and more stability and braking.
05:37 We know we can improve braking generally for a rider, but on the track you don't need that.
05:43 We don't have the link in in track mode. OK. OK. Similarly, the optimized cornering ABS.
05:48 We don't have the optimized cornering part of that in track mode.
05:51 It's all down to you, the rider, to ride the bike the way you want to ride it.
05:55 OK. So there's still ABS, but it's a safety net. It's a safety net. It's there.
06:00 There's less intervention. You get more wheel slip before it cuts in.
06:06 And also it will tell, it will be able to sense how you're applying the brakes as well.
06:13 So for backing into a corner, you'll have less intervention on the rear brake than you would have if you had a panic brake situation.
06:20 All right. So it knows that you're progressively doing the wheels slowing down rather than locking.
06:25 Absolutely. There's a lot of difference that people think. Absolutely.
06:27 A lock is a slide and slowing down is different. Wow. Can't wait.
06:32 So when we move from the RS to the Moto2, that is in limited numbers of how many?
06:38 It is. We've got two sets of 765 bikes because we've got two colorways for the bike. OK.
06:45 OK. This is the racing yellow. Yeah. We've also got... That looks stunning, doesn't it?
06:50 Yeah, absolutely. We've also got the crystal white with racing yellow accents, including the rear subframe.
06:58 Both are really, really nice color schemes and it's a choice.
07:03 So we've got a limited edition bike here and it's very, very special.
07:08 I mean, I can already see just by looking at the bikes, the bars are different.
07:12 I can see gleaming Ohlins up at the front. So in terms of... We've got the same rear shock.
07:19 It's the same rear shock. The forks are now the NIX30 Ohlins forks.
07:26 Again, fully adjustable, obviously. Yeah. We've got clip on handlebars, which are 80 millimeters lower and 50 millimeters further forward.
07:34 So it's a much more engaging riding position for track.
07:38 This is the Moto2 limited edition. OK. Absolutely beautifully done as well.
07:44 All machined from billet. Absolutely looks glorious as well as performs really well.
07:50 The focus is all on the performance. The setup of the suspension takes the headstock angle even steeper.
07:56 OK, so 23 degrees and 95 millimeters of trail. Yeah.
08:01 So it's very intentional. Now, even for the Moto2, as with the RS, you could fit the low seat.
08:11 Yeah, yeah. It's an accessory low seat. Yeah, it's 28 millimeters lower.
08:15 But you can also adjust the rear suspension or the dealer will adjust that for you.
08:20 There's a spacer in the clevis on the rear suspension unit that can be removed.
08:24 Oh, wow. So that will give you another 10 millimeters seat height reduction.
08:28 Obviously, for the optimum handling on the track, you keep that geometry.
08:34 Yeah, that's what we've set up. That's what we believe will give you the very best handling.
08:37 But obviously, it's a balance and personal personal preference.
08:41 But that seat height is just ergonomics and accessibility.
08:46 And we're still at the same power as the RS? Yes, that's right. 130 PS.
08:50 And finally, I hope you've not diluted that exhaust on anyway.
08:53 I see it's a completely new exhaust. Yeah, you've still got that. It's even better.
08:57 Euro 5, obviously. It's Euro 5, obviously. It's freer flowing again.
09:02 We're making more power. We need it to be freer flowing.
09:06 There's changes to the intake trumpets as well. So the intake and the exhaust sound slightly different.
09:12 But absolutely not diluted that. And with a quick shifter, it's going to be air-cooled.
09:16 I can't wait. I can't wait to ride them.
09:18 OK, well, I hope you've enjoyed our little sneaky look here at Cycleworld at the bikes.
09:22 We'll be riding these towards the end of the year, hopefully.
09:26 I can't wait to get my hands on them. If you've got any questions, fire them below and we'll try and get you some answers.
09:31 Thanks for watching.
