00:00 "Everyone just saw that, didn't they?"
00:03 "Yeah, pretty much."
00:06 Jacob Elordi might have been thrust into the spotlight after The Kissing Booth was released,
00:11 but that doesn't mean he's particularly fond of the franchise.
00:16 When the first film came out in 2018, the actor became an overnight sensation.
00:20 But the 26-year-old told GQ for his December cover story he pretty much hated all of it.
00:26 "I didn't want to make those movies before I made those movies.
00:30 Those movies are ridiculous.
00:32 They're not universal.
00:33 They're an escape."
00:35 In the trilogy, Jacob plays bad-boy football star Noah Flynn, who falls in love with his
00:40 younger brother's best friend Elle, who is played by Joey King.
00:43 "Come on, relax, Shelly.
00:44 It was just a kiss."
00:46 "Was it, Noah?
00:48 Was it just a kiss?"
00:50 "Yeah, of course."
00:53 The film marked one of Jacob's first movie roles.Following the success of the first one,
00:57 Netflix made two more movies, which the Australian actor admitted was dissatisfying.
01:03 When talking to GQ about the industry saying, "One for them, one for me," which means
01:06 grinning and bearing through a movie in hopes of getting a better project down the line,
01:10 he says, "That one's a trap as well, because it can become 15 for them, none for you.
01:16 You have no original ideas and you're dead inside.
01:18 So it's a fine dance.
01:20 If I won for them, I've done it."
01:23 This isn't the first time Jacob has expressed his candid thoughts about the Kissing Booth
01:28 franchise.
01:29 In the past, he's been told to be grateful for the films because they launched his career
01:32 and that he was, quote, "pretentious."
01:35 But Jacob weighed in on that too, telling GQ, quote, "How is caring about your output
01:40 pretentious?
01:41 But not caring and knowing feeding people s***, knowing that you're making money off
01:46 of people's time, which is literally the most valuable thing they have.
01:49 How is that the cool thing?"
01:52 Jacob has come a long way since making the Kissing Booth movies, starring in Euphoria,
01:57 Priscilla and Saltburn.
01:58 He says the reason he is, quote, "happy" right now is because he's focusing on projects
02:03 that fulfill him creatively.
02:05 And Jacob is at a very exciting time in his career right now.
02:09 His upcoming film Saltburn is coming out this weekend.
02:12 He also portrayed Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola's Priscilla.
02:16 This is Hollywood Chat with Jacob ahead of the film's premiere, and he gushed over
02:19 the incredible experience of making it with director Sofia and co-star Kayleigh Spaney.
02:25 The most challenging part was, I don't know, I felt like I was in safe hands the whole
02:32 time.
02:33 So it was one of the most freeing, creative experiences I've ever been a part of.
02:37 So I don't know if there really like it was, yeah, it was just joyful.
02:42 Yeah, joyful.
02:43 Well, that's a beautiful way to experience such an incredible project.
02:48 There's something here, it's this one.
02:49 It's all Kayleigh.
02:50 No, yeah, I mean, really, when you step on set with these two, it's like, yeah, you
02:54 don't have to worry too much.
02:55 It's just like, yeah.
