NSW Mental Health Commissioner Catherine Lourey speaks about reaching out for help for 2023 Perinatal mental Health Week.
Transcript
00:00 This Perinatal Week we really want to encourage people to reach out and support those who are
00:08 transitioning into the exciting but sometimes challenging time of parenthood. We know that
00:16 one in five mums and one in ten dads and non-birth parents experience perinatal depression and anxiety
00:24 and we want to send a message to them to reach out. You're not alone. Reach out for support and help.
00:31 Talk with someone. But also we want to say for those of you who know someone who may be struggling
00:39 to reach out to them, to talk with them and encourage them to seek support where they need it.
00:44 We know that this week is also important because we need to talk about perinatal depression and
00:52 anxiety to ensure that we break down the stigma that surrounds this really important issue
00:58 and by doing so we will support the parents of today and lay the foundations for our
01:06 generations in the future.
