00:00 I'd love to do it for a long time, obviously, but
00:03 hopefully it'll find its audience and people will get the humor and it'll do really well.
00:07 Yeah, it's a great show to watch. It's really fun.
00:08 The guy was always bankers, there was no beating him.
00:10 Totally.
00:11 You should've been stocking up on those get-out-of-jail-free cards.
00:14 Everything is pretty much dysfunctional in this television show.
00:17 Yeah, I don't think there's one thing that resembles normalcy of any kind.
00:23 What are you doing?
00:24 Are you trying to cry?
00:25 I'm sad.
00:26 So, this is the magic trick, huh?
00:30 Illusion, Michael.
00:32 The trick is something a whore does for money.
00:33 Everything's a lot of fun.
00:35 You know, you show up on set and it's kind of like it's time to play.
00:39 It's the most enjoyable experience for an actor to be able to get in there and just do stuff
00:44 that you think is legitimately funny with people who you think are legitimately funny.
00:48 [police sirens]
00:49 Are those police boats?
00:51 [gunshot]
00:51 [woman screaming]
00:52 No, I'm serious. I think they are police boats.
00:55 There's so little ego involved on this show from top to bottom except for maybe Jason
01:01 and Portia.
01:03 Well, our father gets arrested for embezzling funds from the company in the pilot episode.
01:09 They cannot arrest a husband and wife for the same crime.
01:15 Yeah, I don't think that that's true, Dad.
01:21 Really?
01:22 [police sirens]
01:24 I got the worst f***ing attorneys.
01:28 You know, he's the guy that has made us all very rich.
01:32 He's a real estate developer.
01:35 There you get arrested development.
01:39 It's officially the first joke of the show, okay?
01:42 We start with the title.
01:44 [police sirens]
01:45 The rest of us who are very privileged, wealthy kids have to work out how to live as real
01:52 people in the real world.
01:53 And we're all useless.
01:55 We're completely idiotic and useless.
01:58 You know, Michael, Dad did name Mom as his successor.
02:02 And I'm putting Buster in charge.
02:04 That's a good choice.
02:05 Buster?
02:06 The guy who thought that the blue on the map was land?
02:10 Everybody has decided to live together in the one remaining model home that Father built.
02:18 It was supposedly the start of a major real estate development.
02:22 We just had the one model built.
02:24 Of course, everything's been frozen now, so those homes won't be built.
02:27 So there's just this one home out in the middle of this huge development, empty.
02:31 So we're all living there, under one roof.
02:33 And more comedy.
02:36 More comedy.
02:37 You know, it's really fun playing a character that is an adult who has to deal with adult siblings.
02:46 And the dynamics of the siblings as grown-ups is actually kind of new and fun and something
02:53 we all have to deal with in life.
02:55 Everything I do is so dramatic and flamboyant.
02:59 It just makes me want to set myself on fire.
03:03 Good grief, Mother.
03:05 Not all homosexuals are flamboyant.
03:08 Oh my God, I have the exact same blouse.
03:10 I'm married to Tobias Fionke.
03:13 He's a doctor of psycholinguistics who now wants to be an actor.
03:18 And you refused to support me when I had my winter regressive therapy primal scream off.
03:23 Not this again.
03:24 You know why you wanted me to be a part of that primal therapy thing?
03:28 Yes, I do know why.
03:29 Because you're a baby and you want me to be a baby so we can get along better.
03:33 How about that?
03:34 Well, two babies are better than one.
03:38 Two babies also equal one adult.
03:43 Oh, come on.
03:44 So that's his big change of life and I have to deal with that.
03:49 On top of having no money, I have an out-of-work actor as a husband.
03:52 And you know, Lindsay, by the way, I expected this from them because they're completely oblivious.
03:57 But you, you should know better.
04:00 I am simply the sanest of the bunch.
04:02 The curve is a little high.
04:05 So I'm not altogether sane, but in the arrested development world, my guy is pretty much on the ground.
04:12 He's kind of a grounding, sane-ish character, but he's still a part of our family.
04:18 He still has his quirks.
04:19 I'm basically the most appropriate guide the audience has to take you through the zoo.
04:23 So I take you to visit crazy father, crazy mother, brother, sister,
04:28 my son, who plays like 25.
04:33 He's pretty sane, too.
04:35 So basically we try to keep this family together and all of the sort of idiosyncrasies keep it from becoming a cohesive unit.
04:46 Ergo, comedy.
04:48 What have we always said is the most important thing?
04:50 Breakfast.
04:54 Family.
04:55 Family, right.
04:57 I thought you meant all the things you eat.
04:59 [music]
05:03 [BLANK_AUDIO]
