Transcript
00:00 questions for Jalen and Miles.
00:01 Go ahead.
00:02 >> You guys are the two old hats back there in the secondary.
00:05 How satisfying was it to perform the way you did today and
00:10 have the outcome that you had today?
00:12 >> Today was just all a matter of execution and staying consistent.
00:18 I know over the season we've been on and off.
00:21 Today we just really focused on the main thing and
00:24 sticking to our keys, what we had to get accomplished and
00:28 executing at the highest level.
00:30 So it's a good feeling to win on the road.
00:33 It's a good feeling to go back home with the dub.
00:36 And it's just time to just enjoy this time while we have right now and
00:40 then roll over to the next week and focus on what's left to accomplish.
00:45 >> Great win.
00:45 Our main focus was the Olympics.
00:49 We gained for 60 minutes on both sides of the ball, especially teams.
00:53 And I felt like we were able to successfully do that.
00:56 Often put up points when we needed them to and
01:00 even was able to get stops whenever offered them to.
01:02 So I feel like we did a complete game on both sides of the ball.
01:07 >> Chad.
01:08 >> Miles, did you get a sense in pregame warm ups or this morning that this would
01:12 be different than you guys would dominate today?
01:14 Was anything different going into this one?
01:17 >> Same mindset that we have going in each week.
01:20 What I can say, I'm proud of Georgia Tech is we've struggled over the past
01:25 years trying to win versus Virginia Tech.
01:28 They're a great team, matter of fact.
01:29 Just securing this dub and executing was very important.
01:34 So yeah, that's pretty much it.
01:36 >> Go ahead.
01:39 >> How much did it change when you guys knocked Muscat out on your first drive?
01:43 I imagine that was a little bit of a quick change for you.
01:46 You saw it going.
01:48 >> I didn't realize he got knocked out.
01:50 >> Knocked out nine to number ten, broke that long run.
01:53 I was like, he looked a little different.
01:55 >> [LAUGH] >> What happened?
01:57 I was like, this was quarterback that he always studied with, Ted.
02:01 But yeah, I didn't realize it was up until that happened.
02:03 Yeah, I didn't realize that, but it happened.
02:06 >> Okay.
02:09 >> I asked you guys to look at your own offense, what Haynes and
02:12 those guys are doing.
02:14 How impressed are you and what kind of pressure can they put on the defense?
02:18 >> Hello, what's the- >> Can you ask the second part of
02:20 your question?
02:21 >> Yeah, just what kind of pressure can Haynes and those guys,
02:23 just from your guys' perspective, what kind of pressure do they put on
02:26 opposing defenses?
02:27 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:32 >> Our offense is a little speed, as you all can see, at the receiver position,
02:35 running back position, and quarterback.
02:37 So them being able to spread the ball that way and
02:40 still have a downhill tendency through the run game puts a lot of pressure on them
02:44 because they can't pack the box and then they can't put more defense on the field
02:47 to cover.
02:49 So they have to pick their poison.
02:52 And then once they go tempo, it's even harder because everybody's
02:56 looking to do line up and they get crazy.
02:59 Tempo's hard to guard.
03:01 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:03 >> Yeah.
03:03 The coach talks about complementary offense and defense.
03:12 How important was it for you guys after come out in the second half,
03:15 the offense scores right away, and you guys pitched that three and out.
03:20 And that really changed the momentum of the game quite a bit.
03:25 >> Yeah, our coaches emphasize complementary football a lot.
03:29 And I don't think too many people understand the concept of that and
03:32 how important it is when you work with, when the game is about field position.
03:39 Complementary football is a big key on the defensive end and
03:42 on the offensive side because we work co-tandem.
03:45 We're all on the string.
03:46 So we are as great as our weakest link.
03:48 So complementary football is very key.
03:50 So after they scored coming out in the half, we couldn't get too high.
03:54 Our defense couldn't get too low.
03:56 We just had to stay in that happy medium.
03:58 Just keep executing until the fourth quarter was completely over.
04:01 >> I'll talk on the field position portion of complementary football.
04:05 Offense able to move the ball, even when they weren't able to score,
04:07 they were able to pin them down with a couple of punts.
04:08 And that gives their offense a longer field to work with.
04:11 And that gives defense more room to make different calls,
04:14 be a little bit more aggressive at different times, things of that nature.
04:17 And then once we get three and
04:18 that's making them comfortable, we get a turnover.
04:20 It gives our offense a shorter field to work with.
04:21 So that it opens up the play with, that it puts them in more of our territory.
04:25 So just being able to complement each other, that makes it easier on our team.
04:29 But it also makes it harder on their defense or offense.
04:33 So I would say complementary football and field position go hand in hand.
04:35 And we'll work some more on those for us.
04:38 >> Time for a couple more for the defense.
04:39 We'll bring in the offense.
04:40 Go ahead, Kelly.
04:41 >> Both you guys made a decision to come back and play.
04:43 You've been through a lot here, not winning, and a lot of tough times.
04:48 How good does it feel to kind of see this, maybe, as the third one that's tried?
04:53 >> Man, it's quite a deserving feeling.
04:57 When you put in the work for it, well, initially, when you put in the work and
05:00 you don't get the outcome that you get, it's like, what can you do?
05:04 What type of change can you make to achieve the result that you're looking for?
05:09 And now that we're on this side of the spectrum, it feels good, it feels great.
05:13 But we can't stop here.
05:15 We just gotta keep going, keep pressing that gas so
05:17 we can continue having these moments and continue being better than the next opponent.
05:22 >> Okay, anything else?
05:24 All right, go ahead.
05:25 >> How's the head of the Crump Stars of the year with injury-wise?
05:29 How are you feeling now?
05:31 >> I feel good.
05:32 I feel healthy.
05:34 >> Awesome.
