00:00 I was asked to give a toast.
00:01 I don't drink, so I don't do these often.
00:03 (audience laughing)
00:04 I wouldn't preface it with that,
00:05 but I wrote a little something down.
00:07 Growing up, my mother always used to say,
00:10 "Whatever everyone else is doing, do the opposite."
00:14 That is solid parenting advice to help guide a child
00:16 who is often inundated with the overwhelming weight
00:19 of peer pressure, but it can also serve as a North Star
00:23 in a world that often uplifts the success of trend
00:26 at the detriment of the individual.
00:29 Everyone in this room, at some point or another,
00:32 had to make a complicated choice to choose
00:35 to do what they do uniquely, inherently differently.
00:38 They had to walk out into the dark
00:41 and reach in a way they had never seen done before
00:43 for something they could not be sure they could grasp.
00:46 Being unique is not a choice,
00:50 but choosing to authentically present your uniqueness is.
00:54 So tonight, I wanna make a toast to the road less traveled,
00:58 to the path of post-resistance.
01:00 May we all remain comfortable with the uncomfortable,
01:03 at home outside of the normal,
01:05 and greet the grain with our face and never our backs.
01:08 Cheers.
01:09 (audience applauding)
