00:00 Q What do you like about what you've seen out of Jed over the last few weeks?
00:25 A Jed's continuing to develop and grow and I think really address those issues he's had.
00:30 Like I said, I think a couple weeks ago we had some plays that weren't, I think Jed would
00:35 like to have back, but he's taken the approach to go develop and work on correcting those
00:40 issues so he's been a pro about it so those kinds of things have been positive.
00:45 Q Mostly little things or what specifically?
00:48 A Very much little things, yeah, like little details can make all the difference.
00:53 So focusing in on that and just like really with the experience now he's had and recognizing
00:58 those patterns and working to address those things.
01:01 So his work at that has been positive for sure.
01:03 Q Obviously he didn't practice yesterday so I don't know if he's going to be up for the
01:07 game.
01:08 What have you seen out of James and especially on that left side because I know he spent
01:12 most, I think most of his playing time on the right side.
01:15 A For James?
01:16 Yeah, I mean James plays both sides, he has to, he's a swing tackle so yeah, he's got
01:21 to be able to jump in there at either side and so he, one of the drawbacks of being a
01:26 flex or swing tackle is you got to really have skills at both sides but he's taken to
01:31 the, he's done well this week I think and he's just working hard at it so he's, he knows
01:38 his issues on either side too so he's working and we're positive on him.
01:42 Q How about DeJuan, what do you see from him week to week?
01:47 DeJuan, you know DeJuan is I think, you know, becoming a better pro, you know, because I
01:53 think for him he's got all the physical attributes now, it's just like the nuances and the repetition
01:58 has really benefited him.
02:00 Where he sees things better now and just getting more experience has been positive for him.
02:06 You know, being consistent is the biggest issue and we've been working through and I
02:10 think we're, we've seen some positive gains there too.
02:13 Q How can you help like a younger, you know, rookie especially develop that consistency?
02:18 Is it just like a thing that takes time?
02:20 DeJuan, I think it does, I think it takes time.
02:23 I mean you can talk about it but like it's, you're getting a chance to go against all
02:27 these top elite rushers and seeing the defenses week to week, being in the building and just
02:31 the constant attention to detail.
02:33 He gets a lot of, a lot of support and you know he's, he's been, he's been improving
02:39 in that regard.
02:40 So, with all the various looks you have to know and then from our offense and then the
02:44 adjustments on defense on a week to week basis, he's done well with that and so definitely
02:49 making gains.
02:50 Q What are those conversations with DeJuan that are kind of on a weekly basis and pointing
02:56 out those things to improve and I guess how does he handle those conversations with you?
03:01 DeJuan You know, he handles them well and increasingly,
03:03 you know, well in terms of like where he was when we got, when he got here.
03:06 He was, you know, it was like everything was new so and that's true for every rookie but
03:10 DeJuan has really, I think the culture in the room has helped him.
03:16 I think just the constant feedback and then where he sees he has success when he follows
03:21 these, you know, follows the instruction and does the right things and that's where he's
03:26 really shown some improvement.
03:28 I think he knows what he has to do now.
03:30 He trusts in it and he's putting forth the effort.
03:33 Q How has the defense gotten improved over the last three weeks because there's a dramatic
03:39 shift from weeks one through three to weeks four through six.
03:43 DeJuan They've got a really talented defense in
03:45 terms of their roster.
03:46 They got, I mean, they got tons of speed at, you know, up front.
03:49 They've got a great front four there.
03:52 Plus their linebackers are excellent.
03:53 Their secondary is great.
03:55 I mean, and they're well coached.
03:56 They've got a good scheme.
03:57 I think that, you know, looking at them, whatever the statistics may have said, the film tells
04:03 a different story.
04:04 They're a very good defense and I think we have a lot of respect for them for sure.
04:07 Q What's been the difference in your guys' run games after the bye?
04:11 You had a couple of tough games before the bye and then I think you guys run it better.
04:17 DeJuan The difference?
04:18 I mean, we're, I don't know, every week we just come out, we have, you know, a new game
04:21 plan each week and we're trying to really improve on our technical and technical areas,
04:25 you know, getting the backs in phase, obviously with losing Nick in the early part of the
04:29 year.
04:30 You know, the younger guys stepping up there, understanding the plan and then getting all,
04:35 basically all 11 players on the field tied into the run game.
04:38 And once we commit to that, you know, it's just a function of doing the right things
04:43 and then improving the technique and working together as a unit.
04:48 And once we get the, when coach dials up a run, like, you know, guys get excited about,
04:53 we believe we can run the ball, but it's a matter of each week improving and refining
04:57 those critical areas because it just takes one small breakdown to break up a play.
05:01 So I think it's really just a collective group unit effort and being conscious of what things
05:07 can go wrong and how you have to address those adjustments.
05:09 Q I mean, you guys are running the same things.
05:11 It wasn't like a significant shift in the play?
05:15 DeJuan I mean, we run, yeah, we've definitely run,
05:18 we have core plays, but like every week it's a game plan adjustment thing.
05:21 So just being tied in on that and making sure, again, like if nine guys do a great job and
05:27 then one guy screw something up, it looks like everybody screwed up, you know, but in
05:30 terms of what we're getting done, just the demand for higher level consistency, better
05:35 communication and all that from a technical standpoint, I think those things improve too
05:40 as time goes on.
05:41 Q Seahawks, they've added Frank Clark and it sounds like he might be able to go this
05:46 weekend, just how that changes anything for game planning and what he brings and that
05:51 stuff.
05:52 DeJuan Frank Clark's a great player and I don't
05:53 think there's any decline in his play.
05:55 You know, you watch him play last year, watch him play this year from Denver, excellent
06:00 outstanding edge rusher and smart, savvy, explosive, strong, knows how to get to the
06:06 quarterback.
06:07 So he's just presents one more challenge for us and on an already talented front four.
06:13 Q Thanks guys, they have 23 sacks, I think it's
06:16 fifth in the NFL and they get them from sort of all over, they're spreading them out.
06:21 So what challenges does that present for you guys?
06:23 A lot of challenges.
06:25 I mean, just given that you're right, I mean, they're all good.
06:28 There's not like a weak link on the front.
06:30 So they do a good job of especially playing up there in Seattle with the noise.
06:34 So they do a really good job at that.
06:36 And I think, you know, there's the high level defensive front.
06:40 So it's a really huge challenge across on every aspect of that for us.
06:44 Q Scott, you're always a play away, right?
06:46 You guys have certainly seen that in your role with a couple guys get banged up.
06:49 There's a lot of people up this way that are somewhat familiar with Luke Whitworth because
06:53 of playing Ohio State, but maybe haven't seen or heard much about him in the last couple
06:57 of months here.
06:58 Can you give us an idea of his development, his approach, football IQ, the things that
07:02 he's doing to try to get himself running so that if his numbers fall, he's ready to go?
07:06 A Yeah, Luke is, you know, he's a flex player,
07:10 meaning he has to play guards and guard and both guards and center.
07:13 So, you know, from a rookie coming in, you know, he's got to make those those gains each
07:18 week, especially this time of the year, because you're to your point, it's one everyone's
07:22 one play away.
07:23 So he puts, you know, gives his best effort, comes out and works hard.
07:27 And I think he's a smart kid.
07:28 So yeah, we're always trying to improve him and little fundamental aspects, aspects of
07:35 his game in terms of where he has deficiencies.
07:37 So I think we're pleased with his approach to it.
07:41 I think it's just a constant evolution, just like everybody else.
07:45 Thanks, guys.
07:47 Thanks.
07:50 Thanks.
07:51 Thanks.
07:52 Thanks.
