Amari Cooper met with the media before Browns practice on October 26.

00:00 you've been able to win in the last couple weeks without really having to shop and
00:04 more than, not even close.
00:07 >> Yeah, I mean, it just speaks to the resiliency of the team.
00:11 Obviously, we have no rule of law there and
00:15 start with that quarterback but at the end of the day,
00:19 it shows our ability to adapt to whatever situation is presented before us.
00:23 >> Where do you think that comes from?
00:26 The ability to do that.
00:29 >> I would just say the way we practice.
00:31 That's the first thing I would resort to, the way we practice.
00:34 The circumstances we put ourselves in and practice.
00:39 We just go out there and we dominate the practice.
00:43 That's all I'll say.
00:44 >> How do you think PJ's handled this?
00:46 Uncertainty and getting thrown into the fire and then obviously,
00:52 this week at practice now that he knows going into the big book he's going to do.
00:57 >> I would say he's handled it well.
00:59 I mean, he comes in, he just does what's asked of him.
01:03 He goes out there and he tries to execute the best of his abilities.
01:06 He's been doing a good job.
01:09 >> You feel like you're developing a rapport with him?
01:12 Give us an idea how you feel like you're developing a rapport with PJ,
01:15 how that's evolved for you.
01:16 >> Just the communication.
01:18 I mean, repetition is the mother of all learning.
01:20 So the more reps we get, the better we'll be.
01:23 But what I've noticed is we make a mistake on connection and
01:28 talking about growth and that.
01:30 >> How valuable is a single day of practice preparing for
01:34 a team for the quarterback?
01:35 Because last week, we didn't practice Thursday or Friday.
01:39 And it kind of showed, I thought, my God.
01:41 >> [LAUGH] >> That would be a better question for
01:46 a quarterback to answer, because I've never prepared as a quarterback to a game.
01:52 So it'd be a better question for a quarterback.
01:54 >> There's something about PJ in the fourth quarter,
01:57 because these last two games, he's pretty good at most game winning drives.
02:02 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:13 >> Jemersey came out pretty strongly and
02:15 said that the NFL informed him.
02:17 >> Who?
02:18 >> Jemersey, the Colts owner.
02:21 He tweeted that the NFL told him that the refs got it wrong on those two calls at
02:27 the end of the game, so specifically your call, I'm just wondering,
02:32 did you feel like that that was the right call on that?
02:37 >> I mean, the calls are [INAUDIBLE]
02:40 >> [INAUDIBLE]
02:50 >> Going to Seattle,
02:52 what do you see with the Seahawks secondary?
02:55 >> Yeah, they got some good players, secondary players that we have our
02:58 attention on, for sure.
03:00 We're just not gonna go out there and do our jobs, but
03:03 they're playing a really good football.
03:06 >> What's that environment like playing in that stadium?
03:10 >> Yeah, I played there a couple times, it gets really, really loud.
03:13 So it's definitely gonna be a challenge for us.
03:17 But it's something, again, we're preparing ourselves for this week.
03:22 We're gonna go out there at all times on the execution of the game.
03:25 And that's what we're trying to do.
03:28 We have the crowd noise out there for practice, for a reason.
03:32 So it's just for games.
03:34 >> What do you think about Ricky Carter,
03:35 whether is he as good as he advertised?
03:38 >> Yeah, I think he's a good player.
03:41 He's making a lot of plays, making his name known.
03:44 So yeah, it's gonna be a nice fun competition.
03:48 >> You guys have seen that next man up mentality embodied in the quarterbacks
03:51 room, but you also have had to see it in that running backs room.
03:53 How have you seen those guys kinda step up when Nick Chubb goes out and
03:57 then Jerome Ford goes out for the game?
03:58 How have you seen them maintain that and have a strong running game still?
04:02 >> Yeah, I mean, it's just a testament to the way that those guys were preparing.
04:05 The first thing that is important is knowing what to do when you go out there.
04:10 I think a lot of guys, they be kinda complacent,
04:14 thinking that they might not have the opportunity to play.
04:16 Then something like that happens in the game to where it's unexpected,
04:21 you have to be ready.
04:21 So I think they stepped up in a big way by just knowing what to do.
04:26 >> How difficult is it for you to kinda get in the flow when you don't get
04:31 targets or anything like you did for the game?
04:34 >> Yeah, that can be difficult to get into the flow when you don't get targets early.
04:39 Generally, you wanna get a catch as early as possible so
04:44 that you kinda get into the groove, get hit a little bit, so
04:47 that you can feel like you're playing.
04:49 But, you know, cookie doesn't always come that way.
04:52 Sometimes you have to wait even until the second half to get your first catch.
04:56 And I've been there before.
04:58 I had a game where I had one catch in the first half and
05:01 ended the game with 200 yards.
05:03 So it's just perspective.
05:06 >> What was DeSean like in the huddle, Amari, in those first few plays?
05:11 He didn't seem to have it going.
05:14 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:19 >> The question I mean, DeSean Watson,
05:22 just calling the plays that have been made to him.
05:26 He's just trying to get us going like any other quarterback would be.
05:29 >> Yeah, so it's the same with DeSean.
05:34 >> Even with all the struggles as a quarterback,
05:35 what's it say that this team is still forward to?
05:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:40 >> Like I said before, the resiliency of the team,
05:43 obviously, the quarterback is the most important position.
05:47 But good defense has been making great plays.
05:51 The receivers have been great.
05:53 So our defense has been involved.
05:55 We've been playing great, complementing the football.
05:57 So we've been playing great.
06:00 We play together in all these phases.
06:02 >> In your dealings and conversations with DeSean,
06:05 how badly does he wanna be out there?
06:08 How hard is he trying to be out there with you guys?
06:11 >> Yeah, of course, I mean, that's a good thing.
06:14 It's just something unfortunate happening like the game.
06:17 I mean, you wanna be out there and that's what hurts us the most,
06:21 not being able to have you available for your team.
06:24 Especially when it's one of those, I would call it like a gray area injury,
06:30 to where you don't necessarily have surgery on it.
06:35 So it's still play, but it's gonna be inevitable to be equal.
06:42 So that's the painful I would say.
06:45 >> And is it extremely frustrating as a player, I would guess,
06:50 to wonder if you should be out there before you actually can be yourself?
06:56 >> Yeah, I mean, speaking from my own experience, yeah, 100%.
07:01 It's one of the most, like I said before,
07:05 it's like theoretically you can't, yeah,
07:10 I mean you could run around and move, but you're just not 100% yourself.
07:16 You're a bad shot of yourself at that point.
07:18 So I've played with a lot of injuries, and I know exactly where it's going.
07:24 It's hard.
07:25 >> Mario, you've established yourself as one of the most reliable receivers in
07:29 the league.
07:29 How much do you study other receivers and still try to add to your repertoire?
07:34 Somebody like DK Metcalf, for example.
07:36 >> I wouldn't say that I study other guys, but inevitably,
07:42 I have to watch film on the defenses that I'm going up against.
07:44 So I see other receivers play.
07:47 And if I see them do something that is different, I'll tally it up.
07:53 Try to save it for the archives.
07:56 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:57 [LAUGH] Yeah.
08:00 >> Yeah, that's all.
