Day was complimentary of his team's effort, saying his only critique is that Ohio State could have been a touch more explosive.

00:00 >> Over to the left, Nathan Barrett, Cleveland.com.
00:03 >> First off, do you have any sense yet how long Denzel might be out?
00:06 >> Yeah, it was close this week.
00:09 So we'll hopefully get him back for practice next week.
00:12 And if he has a full week of practice, it'll be-
00:14 >> I guess at the risk of being uncouth,
00:16 is this kind of why you guys went out and threw a bunch of money at Tim Knowles to
00:20 bring him here to coordinate this against the wind championship
00:23 level games in this way?
00:25 >> Well, the expectation at Ohio State is to be the best in the country.
00:29 And our defense, I think, has a chance to do that.
00:34 Jim got here, I know that that was what he wanted to do.
00:37 And he's done a great job of installing his defense in the first year.
00:43 But now, he's really got a feel for the conference, I think.
00:46 He's taking the next step with our personnel.
00:48 And the guys are playing with confidence.
00:50 And I think he does a tremendous job of giving them enough information that they
00:55 need, but not overloading them to play fast and confident.
00:59 That was the most confident and energetic group that I've been around,
01:04 probably since 19 out there.
01:07 When the crowd was, the whole group was just, they had that look in their eye.
01:14 And they were getting the crowd involved.
01:16 A couple times, I'm like, guys, they're about to snap the ball.
01:18 Let's go get going.
01:19 I love that.
01:20 That's the confidence that is building week in and week out.
01:24 >> Got time for just a few more over here to the right, Spencer Holbrook,
01:27 Letterman, Roe.
01:27 >> Ryan, I guess in the same vein, how much does this defense allow you to change
01:32 the calculus in the way you're calling offense?
01:34 I know that in past years, maybe, I don't wanna speak for you,
01:37 but you might have gone for a touchdown at the end of the first half.
01:40 You might have kicked a field goal to accept to seven.
01:42 What has changed with this defense, as good as it is right now?
01:46 >> I just think in a game like this in particular,
01:49 you have to do whatever you can to win the game.
01:53 And if you feel like your defense can start out when you would mean,
01:58 then you have to make sure that you're doing your part.
02:02 You can't be selfish at that moment as much as you'd love to just push
02:06 the pedal to the metal.
02:07 The goal is to win the game.
02:08 Sometimes we forget about that now.
02:10 There's other times we wanna find out where your offense is, challenge yourself,
02:14 grow and build and put them in situations to grow.
02:19 I just felt like today watching the game that our defense was in control of the game.
02:25 And if we get a couple drives together and punch it in and control the clock,
02:29 it certainly had a lot to do with the defense, but
02:31 we did have the ball for almost 35 minutes of the game.
02:34 And then that was well done.
02:35 I just think we could have done a little bit more explosive.
02:40 And certainly not finishing that drive hurt us,
02:42 made it a closer game than it should have been.
02:47 But whatever the game is, the goal is to win the game.
02:51 And the more confidence we have in our defense, that allows us to play.
