Is the future finally here? Online shopping giant Amazon has announced its plans to start using drones to deliver customers parcels in the UK. They pledge it will mean the time between clicking buy now, and your item being dropped off, will fall to just one hour. The plans are a little way off just yet, here's what we know.

00:12 Retail giant Amazon has announced their plans to bring drone deliveries over to the UK.
00:17 But how will it work and when can we expect it to arrive?
00:20 Drone deliveries aren't a new thing for the company, which already offers them in two
00:23 US states for products under 2.2 kilos.
00:27 The retailer said it was working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority to explore how
00:32 the tech could be used here safely.
00:34 Shoppers will be able to choose from thousands of items that meet the weight requirements
00:38 from toiletries to kitchen essentials to batteries, as long as it can fit in a small shoebox-sized
00:43 parcel.
00:44 David Carbon, vice president of Amazon Prime Air, said they will start in a lightly populated
00:49 suburban area and scale slowly.
00:52 Amazon will announce in the coming months the UK location which will trial run the tech
00:56 with a possible start date set for the end of 2024.
