00:00 "Oh, you didn't tell me you were gonna kill it."
00:04 Welcome to MsMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10
00:08 movies that deliver the most wicked Halloween vibes.
00:10 Since horror movies can be their own list, we'll be focusing more heavily on
00:14 flicks that get us in the spirit of the holiday, rather than the ones that are just scary.
00:19 "We must find the book, brew the potion, and suck the lives out of the children of Salem before sunrise."
00:25 Number 10. The Scream Team
00:28 "They say he still roams the hills, seeking his revenge."
00:34 If you know, you know. This is not the most popular Disney Channel Halloween movie,
00:39 but it gets the job done. While it certainly feels like an early
00:42 "Ortz" movie, its storyline has quite a surprising amount of substance.
00:46 "Grandpa? Is it really you?"
00:50 "Give him a minute to pull himself together."
00:54 "It's him!"
00:56 We get a redeemable villain, some touching ideas about death and grief,
00:59 and a conclusion that demonstrates how harmful groupthink can be.
01:03 Plus, the small-town location decorated for the season does a lot for that nostalgic Halloween feeling.
01:09 The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy is another one of our favorites
01:12 as far as lesser-appreciated Disney Halloween movies go.
01:15 "Don't you make no dark spirits come out!"
01:17 "Lift us, lift us up to the light, and lead us through this stormy night."
01:23 "Hey, hey, hey! Maybe I'll just lay on the ground."
01:28 Number 9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
01:30 "Great Halloween, everybody!"
01:32 "I believe it was our most horrible yet. Thank you, everyone."
01:37 While this movie spends a lot of its time talking about Christmas,
01:39 employing Christmas traditions and visiting Christmas Town,
01:42 there is, of course, lots of Halloween to enjoy, too.
01:45 "I'm the master of fright and a demon of light, and I'll scare you right out of your pants."
01:53 It's the perfect movie for those who are torn between which holiday is their favorite.
01:59 And it's also great for that in-between time when we're transitioning from one holiday to the next.
02:04 Between the host of spooky characters and mise-en-scene at the beginning of the film,
02:08 it's impossible not to feel wrapped up in the freaks and frights.
02:12 "Everybody scream! Everybody scream!"
02:15 Plus, "This is Halloween" is up there for the soundtrack of the season.
02:19 "This is Halloween, this is Halloween, pumpkins scream in the dead of night."
02:24 Number 8. Coraline
02:26 Stop-motion really is the theme for spooky animation, and we are here for it.
02:30 Corpse Bride, anyone?
02:32 "I do."
02:35 While Coraline doesn't feature pumpkin picking or talk of trick-or-treating,
02:39 its creepy story and even creepier imagery more than make up for it.
02:43 There is a talking black cat, so we'll take it.
02:46 "Cats don't talk at home."
02:47 "No?" "Nope."
02:49 "Well, you're clearly the expert on these things. After all, I'm just a big fat wuss-puss."
02:56 Coraline was definitely one of those movies that gave you nightmares as a kid,
03:00 but that you learned to appreciate as you got older.
03:03 The butt and eyes are a lot for any kid to handle,
03:05 not to mention the severed hand and the bell-dam's true form.
03:09 "Black is traditional."
03:12 "But if you'd prefer pink, or vermilion, or chartreuse."
03:18 "No, you might make me jealous."
03:21 "No way!"
03:23 Shivers all around, folks.
03:24 Number 7. Ghostbusters franchise
03:27 Who you gonna call?
03:28 Have we made that reference too many times?
03:30 If nothing else, this franchise knows how to make a banger Halloween theme.
03:34 "Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!"
03:38 If you're looking for nostalgia, Ghostbusters is a go-to.
03:42 There's just nothing like a campy 80s flick.
03:44 "Ben!"
03:47 "Yes!"
03:50 Still, there's lots of modern content to get caught up on, too.
03:54 With a gender-swapped cast starring Melissa McCarthy,
03:57 Christian Wig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones,
04:00 and also Chris Hemsworth, which we thought might be important to mention,
04:03 there is no shortage of ghoul-stopping mayhem.
04:07 "Who's in the mood to save New York City?"
04:09 "Woo!"
04:12 Even more recent is the 2021 iteration with yet another star-studded cast.
04:17 Which iteration is your favorite?
04:19 Let us know in the comments.
04:20 "Sorry, Beckman. I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."
04:25 Number 6. Scream franchise
04:27 "Oh, God!"
04:29 Although there are any number of horror movies we could have included on our list,
04:34 we thought we'd be remiss to leave out an absolute classic like Scream.
04:38 It was the highest-grossing slasher film until 2018's Halloween,
04:41 so that's definitely saying something.
04:43 Every year, we hear the annual discourse over which movie is the best
04:48 and which ones are better left out of the marathoning experience.
04:51 "Just one question. Do you think it's over, Sidney?"
04:55 And there's still more to debate to come with the seventh Scream being in the works
05:00 as this video goes live.
05:01 Once you're a fan, you get to join in on all the Ghostface costume fun, too.
05:06 Number 5. The Addams Family franchise
05:09 The Addams Family extends so far beyond just a film,
05:12 but it's a good place to start if you're just getting into the franchise
05:16 or if you don't have a lot of time.
05:18 The iconic 1991 movie is probably the most popular suggestion,
05:22 but if you're a fan of cartoons, two computer-animated movies were released in 2019 and 2021.
05:29 "It's the day your entire family gathers around you
05:32 and passes judgment on your worth as a human being."
05:35 Regardless of the shape these characters take, there's always so much to love.
05:39 From Morticia and Gomez's eccentric but loving marriage
05:42 to Wednesday's deadpan way of expressing herself.
05:45 "What are you doing?"
05:46 "I'm going to electrocute him."
05:48 To Lurch, everyone's favourite butler.
05:50 They certainly make one heck of an altogether ooky family.
05:54 "Are you ready for your Margot makeover?"
05:57 "Quiet. Pugsley's been climbing the walls in anticipation."
06:04 Number 4. Beetlejuice
06:05 Yet another movie with a soundtrack that visits us every year.
06:09 Beetlejuice has been a fan favourite for a long time.
06:12 "Work all night and drink our rum."
06:16 "Daylight come and we want more."
06:20 Its world is absolutely immersive with all the trademark 80s sillies you could want.
06:25 "I'll possess myself if I gotta, whoa, yo!"
06:28 The premise of a house being haunted by the living is really adorable,
06:32 and there's no doubt it's become a comfort movie for those of us who grew up watching it.
06:37 While it may not be the most groundbreaking plot or execution,
06:40 it's a fun time and that's what the holiday is all about.
06:44 Well, that and a few screams.
06:46 "Can you be scary?"
06:47 "Oh, oh, I know the grass can be, can I be scary?"
06:52 "What do you think of this?"
06:55 Number 3. Halloween Town Franchise
06:58 "This is Halloween Town, just like the book."
07:00 For this entry, we're throwing it back to when Disney Channel had the best Halloween lineup ever.
07:05 All culminating in the coveted Halloween Town movies.
07:08 The Twitches movies were also a pair that we loved,
07:11 so if Marnie and Aggie aren't your preferred witches, Long Lost Twins might just be.
07:16 Both have all the right amounts of campiness, overacting, and Halloween aesthetics you could hope for.
07:22 "But I'm not afraid of you."
07:25 [Splash]
07:28 In fact, the Halloween Town movies were, and still are,
07:31 such a force that you can actually visit the town in real life in St. Helens, Oregon.
07:36 That's one way to kick up your experience of the season.
07:39 "So this world wide web I've heard about, does it involve spiders?"
07:46 "Kinda lost."
07:48 "I think it's time maybe we started at your trade."
07:51 Number 2. Halloween Franchise
07:53 "Happy Halloween!"
07:55 They literally named it after the holiday.
07:57 What? Were we supposed to leave it out?
07:59 Michael Myers is one of the most recognizable faces of horror,
08:03 and while we're aware we're missing friends like Freddy and Jason,
08:06 few beat out our old pal Mike.
08:08 "Tommy, please!"
08:10 "Tommy, hurry up!"
08:12 "Tommy, please!"
08:15 With Jamie Lee Curtis at the helm of this franchise, it's an absolute powerhouse.
08:19 With sequels, reboots, and remakes galore,
08:22 you'll have lots to chew on if you decide to dedicate yourself to the franchise.
08:26 "Come out, Michael."
08:28 You'll also get a nice bookend with Halloween ends.
08:31 Even if it's not the last film to feature Michael Myers,
08:34 it's been said to be Curtis' last run on the role of Laurie Strode.
08:38 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
08:41 Monster House.
08:43 Nothing says Haunted House quite like merging with the foundation of it.
08:46 Goosebumps.
08:53 The children's books are unparalleled, but we love seeing the monsters come to life.
08:57 It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
09:09 Ultimate comfort cartoon.
09:11 Any of the Casper movies.
09:19 Casper Meets Wendy is our personal fave.
09:22 "I'm Wendy, I've got a wand and I'm not afraid to use it!"
09:25 The Sixth Sense.
09:26 If the "I see dead people" line doesn't do it for you, what will?
09:30 "Dead people like in graves and coffins?"
09:34 "Walking around like regular people."

09:52 Number 1. Hocus Pocus
09:55 Yes, there's a Hocus Pocus sequel we could have included in the title,
09:59 but let's be real, nothing beats the original.
10:02 "No more luring children to their demise?"
10:05 "No, they're already demised."
10:08 "Oh, that's a great time, huh?"
10:09 Not only is it full of immaculate autumn vibes,
10:12 the story, costumes, characters and setting all scratch the itch in which.
10:17 The Sanderson sisters absolutely steal the show.
10:19 With a special mention obviously going to Bette Midler,
10:22 who will simply never be outdone as Winifred.
10:25 "It's got a little overwitching to work, eh?"
10:27 "And a what?"
10:28 If you're going to watch one Halloween-themed movie this October,
10:32 let it be Hocus Pocus, even if you've already seen it a thousand times.
10:36 "Into the night time!"
10:40 Do you agree with our picks?
