Viewed for the First Time, New GAC Aion Hyper HT
GAC's New Aion Hyper HT is a 335 HP SUV with Gullwing Doors Inspired by Tesla Model X.
GAC's Aion Hyper HT will launch with an electric motor delivering 335 hp and 317 lb-ft
GAC Aion, the electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Chinese state-owned GAC, the company behind the electric Hyper SSR supercar and Hyper GT sports sedan, is preparing to launch another new model. It's a coupe crossover available with optional gull-wing doors called Hyper HT, and is scheduled to launch in November, shortly before pre-orders open.
While GAC Aion has given us a brief look at the Hyper HT through a series of stunning renderings, the car's (less impressive) final production form has already been detailed thanks to images from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). .
Teaser drawings of Hyper HT released by GAC Aion
According to the documentation, the Hyper HT is 4,935 mm (194.2 inches) long, 1,920 mm (75.5 inches) wide and 1,700 mm (66.9 inches) tall on a 2,935 mm (115.5 inches) wheelbase. It has a relatively restrained design compared to the Hyper GT introduced by Aion in December last year and the Hyper SSR introduced earlier this month.
The front of the Hyper HT is similar in shape to the headlights of the Hyper GT sedan, but has slightly more convex headlights. The lack of a front grille and the simple presence of two small vertical air curtains and narrow central air intake mean that the SUV looks very generic; This is something that cannot be said for the Hyper SSR electric sports car.
The party piece of the Hyper HT's design is the implementation of gull-wing doors at the rear, just like the Tesla Model X. Visible at the rear are simple LED taillights connected by a light bar. Other notable design elements of Aion's new electric SUV include frameless doors, 19-inch and 20-inch wheels, panoramic glass roof and cameras on the front fenders.
It also reported that it will offer three different LiDAR options used by an advanced driver assistance system. MIIT documents reveal that the Aion Hyper HT is powered by an electric motor that delivers 335 hp (250 kW) and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque. This should be good enough to get it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds. The size of the battery pack is unclear, but it is reportedly a triple lithium pack that gives the SUV a range of 373 miles (600 km) on a single charge.
Although MIIT has not released interior photos of the SUV, local spy shots suggest that it will have a flat-bottom and flat-top steering wheel, a large Tesla-style infotainment screen, a small instrument panel for the driver, and wireless smartphone charging.
