00:05 >> Gran Turismo, the Easter eggs.
00:08 The world of PlayStation's Gran Turismo is full of
00:11 amazing and beloved fan favorite cars,
00:13 unique sound design, and distinctive music,
00:16 as well as signature visual cues that
00:18 fans of the game will recognize hidden throughout the film.
00:21 >> I wanted to be really specific
00:22 about Easter eggs in the film.
00:24 The main thing that I wanted to do was pull this feeling
00:26 of a digital video game into reality.
00:30 >> Okay, when that light turns green, it's go time.
00:34 >> The sound design of Gran Turismo is
00:38 immediately identifiable to gamers worldwide,
00:41 and the filmmakers made certain to pay homage to
00:44 the sonic soundscapes of the game within the races of the film.
00:47 From the PlayStation button sound effects,
00:49 to the audio indicators when passing an opponent,
00:52 the sounds of the Gran Turismo game
00:53 heighten the reality of racing.
00:55 >> It's all authentic from the game in the real racing stuff.
00:59 So when he passes people,
01:01 it has the same chime.
01:02 >> The graphics and identifiers in Gran Turismo are a key element,
01:06 and keep sim drivers up to
01:08 speed on their positions within the race.
01:10 >> We bend reality a little bit.
01:12 When we're actually in real world car races,
01:14 we see a number board right above.
01:17 >> True fans of the game will recognize
01:22 the signature music cue, Moon over Castle.
01:24 Playing as Yan wins his first virtual race.
01:28 The actor who plays the reporter interviewing
01:31 the GT Academy students in the film also
01:33 played a key voice role in the Gran Turismo video game.
01:36 >> When did you know that you wanted to be a racer?
01:39 >> If you listen closely to
01:40 the background audio chatter on the radios during key race sequences,
01:44 you'll hear authentic race day transmissions from members of the audio team.
01:48 >> I was able to record my radio transmissions from one of my races.
01:52 >> Stay focused.
01:53 >> They're my spotters and my engineers and me talking.
01:57 You can barely hear us. We're buried in there.
01:59 >> The filmmakers were able to cast
02:01 actual motorsport announcers that you will hear calling
02:03 the action as Yan and his opponents do battle on the race course.
02:06 >> Turn one, they're tipping on 300 kilometers an hour.
02:09 He's not used to this kind of stuff.
02:11 >> The real Yan Martinborough was the stunt driver for
02:14 Archie Midecqui who portrays Yan in the film.
02:16 >> I've been busy. Being a stuntman,
02:18 for me, it's very surreal.
02:20 >> The classic fist bump high in the air is
02:22 a beloved moment from the Gran Turismo game that is recreated within the film.
02:26 Beloved video game creator,
02:28 Polyphony Digital CEO, and the mind behind the Gran Turismo video games,
02:33 Kazunori Yamauchi has a cameo in the film that eagle-eyed fans will notice.
02:37 >> Wow.
02:38 >> How did that feel?
02:39 >> Man, that was amazing.
02:40 >> One of the things that was truly unique about the first Gran Turismo video game,
02:44 was the sheer range of authentic real-world cars that players could choose from.
02:48 From beloved stock cars like Nissans,
02:50 BMWs, and Mercedes that you see on the road every day,
02:53 to more exotic supercars like the Nissan GTR and the Acura NSX.
02:58 Racers can also choose to pilot one of a kind racing prototypes in the game.
03:02 >> As someone who was trying to respect the Gran Turismo audience,
03:05 I was ultra specific about what those cars were.
03:08 Even Yan's dad's car that they steal to go on a joyride is a VR6 Corrado.
03:13 That's an ultra specific choice.
03:15 >> Go, get him.
03:21 >> My own personal favorite Easter egg is probably the 1991 NSX that the movie opens
03:27 with.
03:27 I have a real soft spot for the NSX, and it's been in Gran Turismo.
03:32 I really tried to pay attention to the GT audience.
03:35 >> In addition to the Easter eggs highlighted in this exploration,
03:38 there are so many more nods to racing that the Gran Turismo superfan should be on
03:42 the hunt for throughout the film.
03:45 Good luck.
