00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:03 Hello, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH] Welcome to another episode
00:13 of Masterclass with Malik.
00:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:18 And on top of that, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:39 about pace bowling.
00:40 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:43 Thank you, Wasim Bhai, for joining in my show.
00:45 Wasim Bhai, how was your journey as a pace bowler?
00:49 Yeah, my journey has been exceptional as a pace bowler.
00:53 I remember [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
00:56 87 tour to England.
00:58 I think second test, Old Trafford.
01:00 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:02 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:15 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:17 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:45 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
01:49 I mean, we got excited.
01:51 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:10 And I think that changed my life in a way as a bowler.
02:13 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:15 For instance, [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:18 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:19 Hip, ankles, touchwood.
02:23 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:28 So journey has been exceptional.
02:29 No complaints.
02:30 As a cricketer, I think I made probably some mistakes
02:33 here and there.
02:34 But again, that's part of life.
02:36 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:39 But [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:41 So I would like to come as me for Pakistan.
02:45 Journey has been exceptional.
02:46 There's no two ways about it.
02:49 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
02:51 What would you advise to the youngsters,
02:53 how to increase your pace with accuracy?
02:57 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:06 A couple of things to start off with.
03:08 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:13 It's a very simple answer.
03:15 There is no science to it.
03:18 As depends on your action.
03:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:24 Body may fast.
03:25 Fast bowling muscles.
03:27 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:31 Fast bowling muscles.
03:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
03:53 So the more you bowl in nets or in four-day games,
03:57 longer spells, your fast bowling muscles get stronger.
04:01 And once your fast bowling muscle gets stronger,
04:07 your pace increases.
04:08 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:13 You know, onwards.
04:14 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:16 But [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:18 You think [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:26 But problem [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:28 Line and length [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:30 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:32 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:33 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:34 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:35 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:37 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:38 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:40 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:41 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:42 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:44 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:45 Back of the length [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:47 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:49 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
04:50 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]

11:19 [NON-ENGLISH SPEECH]
11:20 If you can't watch it, then you can't overrate, find extra pressure.
11:24 These are things that bowlers need to learn themselves.
11:27 Street smartness. And that will come when they have confidence as a person.
11:30 How will confidence come?
11:32 See the world, learn the culture, learn everything.
11:35 And that will give you confidence as a bowler.
11:37 Absolutely, brother Waseem.
11:39 I guess we have all received so much insight and information.
11:44 Thank you so much, brother Waseem. Thank you.
11:46 Thank you, Sherby. Thank you, everyone.
11:48 See you guys in October, Inshallah.
11:50 Inshallah.
11:51 Now let's go to the break.
11:52 And after the break, we will talk to you again.
11:57 Welcome back from the break.
12:04 You must be surprised that we will ask Misbah about pace bowling.
12:08 Yes, because in the recent past,
12:10 he has worked a lot on this topic.
12:14 And he has a lot of inside information about pace bowling.
12:18 So today we will show you everything.
12:21 Come.
12:22 Yes, Shoaib.
12:23 You talked about level 3 assignment.
12:26 Obviously, that was a challenge for me.
12:29 And I accepted that challenge myself.
12:32 Because I am a batsman, but I wanted to basically know about fast bowling.
12:38 How to work with bowlers.
12:42 And when I took this assignment,
12:44 obviously, my son, Faham, is playing under 19 at the regional level in Lahore.
12:50 So, at that time, he had some issues with it.
12:53 He came to know that he had a side pain.
12:56 The pace was not being generated enough.
12:58 So I thought that this is the time.
13:00 Firstly, I have to work with him for 12 weeks.
13:04 So it's a good opportunity for me also to learn.
13:08 And secondly, his bowling can be better.
13:10 So the key things in those 12 weeks regarding fast bowling,
13:17 especially young fast bowlers,
13:19 which I have noted normally in Pakistan,
13:22 if you look at any fast bowler,
13:24 you will normally see these things.
13:28 The first thing I will mention about my son, Faham, and his assignment.
13:35 First thing is, you run up as a fast bowler.
13:38 So normally, all the bowlers you see here,
13:41 you will see that they will have angular run-ups.
13:45 Biomechanically, if you go to any bowling coach,
13:49 he will tell you that if you are running straight towards the target,
13:54 then you can transfer all that energy towards the target in a better way.
14:00 So, Faham also had this issue that he was a bit angular.
14:04 The approach to the crease, you jump from there from an angle,
14:10 then your all momentum is going towards basically the fine leg.
14:16 And your target is here in the batsman.
14:19 So it's very difficult for you.
14:21 And because of that, when you try to come back from here,
14:25 then your body automatically twists and lateral flexion is also there.
14:31 Because of which your pace is also low, there are chances of injury.
14:35 Here you feel the pain and all the energy towards the target is not transferred.
14:43 So I think it is very important for any youngster
14:46 that first of all you have to try to run in a straight line where my target is.
14:53 And then number two, obviously, your jump, gather.
14:59 After the jump and gather, I saw a common mistake, which was also of Faham,
15:05 that when you land, the alignment of your feet,
15:10 if you see in the club or cricket, it is completely crossed.
15:17 Which we call, in our times, "Kainchi" increases.
15:20 Now because of that "Kainchi", it is obvious that it becomes very difficult for you
15:23 how to come from here to this side.
15:25 So try to make a channel, put markers here,
15:30 the best way is to try to make the alignment of his feet straight from a young age.
15:41 Instead of "Kainchi", try to make it in this direction towards the target,
15:47 the front leg, so that all the energy that comes from the run-up,
15:53 when it is transferred towards the batter,
15:56 it is easy for him, he does not have a chance of injury,
15:59 and his pace is also good for a fast bowler.
16:04 So this is a common mistake. How can we correct it?
16:08 For that, I tried to put poles or cones to save lateral flexion,
16:15 by making a corridor, even for the run-up.
16:18 You have to come in a straight run-up, you have to jump,
16:21 and keeping your body aligned, you have to deliver the ball in that same alignment.
16:27 Even if you are a little bit here and there, you will know when you hit the pole.
16:34 So I think this is a very good thing for the new fast bowlers.
16:38 If you want to practice and watch your video,
16:41 that I have an angular run-up, you have to do it straight,
16:45 and then if you want to land, you have to check your alignment.
16:48 And then obviously, in detail, there are many other things,
16:53 that if your leg is braced, that will benefit you.
16:58 Then how do you use your non-bowling arm?
17:02 Basically, when both arms are used together,
17:07 and the more important this arm is, the more important it is in fast bowling.
17:12 So, this was also a little issue with Faham, that when this arm came from here,
17:19 it would drop to this side quickly, which would not give power,
17:25 and it would have more lateral flexion.
17:28 So I think it's key that when you deliver the ball,
17:31 when this arm goes forward, it controls your body completely.
17:36 If it comes straight here, you will be able to convert your momentum towards the batsman.
17:46 So I think these were the key things that helped him out,
17:52 and because of these things, he has improved a lot in bowling.
17:56 So I would say this is key for any youngster,
18:00 that before going into the other technicalities, at least,
18:04 your run-up, and then the type of action,
18:07 what type of action you have,
18:09 are you a side-on, are you a semi, or are you a front-on bowler?
18:14 You have to look at that.
18:16 And then, alignment.
18:19 The alignment of your body, in which feet alignment is the most important,
18:24 and then obviously, top body.
18:26 If there is lateral flexion, and it's going this way,
18:30 then you will be having problems.
18:31 The more it works backwards and forwards,
18:37 the more accuracy you will have, and the more pace you will have in the game.
18:42 That will definitely help you. Thank you.
18:45 Let's move on to our next segment,
18:49 which is called Lipton Green Tea, Fitness Tip of the Day.
18:59 The fitness tip of the day is that you have to exercise,
19:03 whatever you know.
19:05 But make sure you exercise every day to stay healthy.
19:26 Let's go to the outdoor coaching zone,
19:29 and do some drills for pace bowling there.
19:32 We have come to our outdoor coaching zone,
19:40 and today we will do some basic drills for pace bowling.
19:47 Because I have set up some drills,
19:50 like this cone,
19:53 this one,
19:54 and two of them are on the right and left side of the stumps.
19:59 Let me talk about this a little bit.
20:02 This is a length where a pace bowler can bounce.
20:07 Whether it's a slow bumper, because variation is very important in modern day cricket.
20:13 This is a good length area.
20:15 It's an area where it's very important for a pace bowler to hit this length.
20:22 If his captain or team management says,
20:27 he should know how to execute this easily.
20:31 The bouncer is set up so that sometimes you do a slow bumper,
20:36 sometimes you do a fast bumper.
20:38 So it's very important that this target is set up completely.
20:45 Then it's set up on one right side,
20:48 and one cone is set up on the left side.
20:51 That's because sometimes when your yorker is not falling in the stumps,
20:56 you can execute it.
20:59 You can go there because the one on the right side is for the lefty,
21:04 and the one on the other side is for the righty.
21:09 So that's why pace bowling is a very basic drill.
21:12 At least as a pacer, you should know how to hit these targets.
21:18 And the biggest advantage of this is that your bowling has accuracy,
21:23 and that's very important.
21:25 What I see in these kids, what they're doing is,
21:44 they're putting more pressure.
21:46 The technique to improve accuracy is to put less pressure.
21:52 If you focus on the target in front of you,
21:56 there's a higher chance that you can hit the target, the cones.
22:01 When you start hitting it, then put a little more pressure.
22:06 Then when you start hitting the same cones,
22:10 then you put a little more pressure.
22:12 That's why your pace and accuracy improves.
22:18 And I guess any pace bowler, when he's good at these two things,
22:24 then he can execute this skill anywhere.
