The Scottish Government has launched a six month trial whereby all peak train prices on Scotrail will be slashed to off-peak fairs. We asked the people of Glasgow what they thought of this decision.

00:00 Peak times, yeah, yeah. I've noticed that actually the past couple of days.
00:03 It only started on Monday. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I've noticed that.
00:06 Well, I use the trains every day. I go to my work through in Lindsay.
00:10 So I pay £94 for a monthly ticket.
00:14 I'm now not able to get that because I wouldn't benefit on the savings.
00:19 So I'm now going to have to get a daily ticket to get the savings.
00:24 So I'm going to go down to about £94, I think.
00:27 I don't use them often, but when I do, my family help me with it,
00:32 cos they work for the company.
00:34 It's good, but it's not much of a difference, I feel,
00:36 not for a while, anyway.
00:38 How long is it? Six months, you're doing it for?
00:40 It's £6.70 for a daily ticket for me to go from Garrahall to Lindsay.
00:45 I'm now going to get it for about £2.70 on a daily,
00:48 but I cannot use my monthly pass.
00:51 Yeah, I mean, that's good. I don't really feel any certain way about it.
00:55 Do you get the trains often?
00:57 Yeah, mostly they come into town.
00:59 I stay about 40 minutes outside Glasgow,
01:01 so the train's the easiest way of getting.
01:03 And I'm not going to use my monthly pass.
01:05 Why should I use that and have to pay about £70, £80 more
01:09 than what I would do if I was getting it daily?
01:11 Every time I've gotten a train, it's been OK.
01:13 Like, I've never had a train cancel on me or anything like that.
01:16 Actually, if it was add up, the difference this is actually making
01:19 it will be probably bigger than I realise right now.
01:22 But, yeah, I'd say it's a good thing.
01:24 But, yeah, I'd say if I'm a trip in, it's like £6.80 per train.
01:29 So it does add up, especially if it's every day,
01:31 which it will be at some point, yeah.
01:33 I've never really understood the off-peak, on-peak times anyway,
01:37 but I would have thought, like,
01:41 taking away the on-peak times would have been better.
01:45 It's a good idea, I think, getting more people on the trains is an idea,
01:49 but they need to do something about the actual trains themselves
01:52 because cancellations and that is putting people off.
01:55 But I don't know if that's better for everyone in a whole.
01:58 Out of ten, I would say maybe about...
02:00 ..eight out of ten, cos there's days where,
02:04 especially having to come to Lindsay or get to Lindsay,
02:06 I could turn up at the station in the morning and my train's cancelled
02:09 and they don't even give you a reason now why the train's cancelled.
02:12 So then I need to pay for a taxi to get from here to Lindsay
02:15 and sometimes even coming home as well.
02:17 I could be 7, 8 o'clock at night by the time I get home.
02:19 But obviously it's not going to help people
02:21 that don't travel in rush hour, is it?
02:23 But I guess it's helping in one sense.
02:26 It's got to be better than what England's doing at the moment anyway.
02:30 So...good and bad.
