00:00 Despite speculation that Jamie Foxx was no longer the star of Todd McFarlane's planned
00:04 spawn reboot, the actor still appears to be attached to the project.
00:08 In a recent interview, McFarlane said, "We had an Academy Award-winning guy who was going to do the
00:20 movie with us, but he fell off." Naturally, this led many to believe Foxx had dropped out of the
00:26 comic book adaptation. However, MovieGasm has since confirmed that the individual McFarlane
00:31 was referring to was a writer and not Foxx. While losing any member of a film's cast or crew is
00:37 disappointed, McFarlane shared a much more positive update on the project last month,
00:42 noting how the success of R-rated comic book movies like Joker and the Deadpool films
00:47 will help his spawn movie move forward by year's end.
00:49 "I'm not the same underneath this suit either."
00:52 "Super penis."
00:56 "Everybody in Hollywood wants an R-rated, dark comic book movie, and Spawn is at the top of
01:02 their list," McFarlane shared at Fan Expo in Vancouver. "The phone calls are coming in fast
01:07 and rapid. I've been talking to a couple of Academy Award people. I've got the investors
01:12 getting lined up. It's changed ever since the Joker from being me begging them to do Spawn,
01:17 dark and creepy. Now to them asking. The filmmaker at it, so I'm telling you it will happen this year,
01:23 this year, and I will direct it. I will be directing it."
01:27 Foxx signed on for Spawn in May of 2018 after apparently pursuing the role for years.
01:32 "I had done all my research on Spawn," he said soon after he was cast. "I know everything about
01:37 the character and what he had done. He was taken aback. I said, 'Whatever you decide to do,
01:42 I want to be first up.' And what I tried to do is stay artistically in shape."
01:46 McFarlane first announced his plans to make a Spawn reboot film in July 2017,
01:52 with Jason Blumhouse producing. McFarlane has repeatedly stated that he wants to both write
01:57 and direct the film and give it an R rating. "It has to be rated R. There's no debate around that,"
02:03 McFarlane shared in an interview. "With the story I want to tell, my intent goes back to that Spawn
02:08 cloud. I am less concerned about what happens in the movie as long as Spawn is cool and badass.
02:14 The last demand is that I am the director. That's it. Everything else is up for conversation."
