00:00 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:03 >> Sorry, but I have to ask the desk, can you do cartwheels too?
00:06 >> [LAUGH] >> It's crazy,
00:09 I actually did not see that play in the game until I seen it happen again on Twitter.
00:14 But yes, I do cartwheels.
00:15 >> [LAUGH]
00:16 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:26 >> I'm sure, was it imprompted, just did it because nobody was around you?
00:30 Just talk about it, how it all happened and came about.
00:35 >> So the play, I line up in a wide receiver formation,
00:39 I'm really just supposed to be a distraction.
00:43 So before we got on the field, Coach O, he told me that we was calling it.
00:47 And I was like, all right.
00:49 And before we went out, I just was like, I'm buying a cartwheel.
00:52 >> [LAUGH]
00:53 >> Cuz I've been doing it in practice.
00:54 So when we run it, so the O line usually great and pretty hard if I don't do
00:59 something that they like, they'll boo me and stuff like that.
01:04 So I knew the cartwheel would just be good.
01:05 So that's all I was worried about, not getting booed when we came off the field.
01:09 >> Did anybody from the other team say anything to you about it or
01:13 even your teammates?
01:15 >> Teammates, yeah, we went in at halftime, a lot of people was talking about it.
01:19 But really after the game,
01:21 when everybody kind of realized that I did a cartwheel is when I heard it.
01:26 But nobody on the other team, after when we go around and
01:30 shake the fans' hands, a lot of people were saying, good cartwheels and stuff.
01:34 >> You did make the ACC highlight that night on the ACC network.
01:38 >> Yeah, my mom sent me a video.
01:40 >> [LAUGH]
01:42 >> Well, the offensive line has been
01:44 really good this year.
01:45 Obviously, continuity and familiarity is important to that position.
01:49 You've got two transfers on the line.
01:52 How long did it take you guys to gel and feel like you're playing together?
01:58 >> I would say it took long, cuz we all came in.
02:03 I know on my visit, I was talking to people a lot.
02:07 And then once we got here, we had the position meeting and
02:11 just kind of got around each other.
02:14 I would say it happened pretty fast,
02:17 cuz we were just getting, doing extra work every day.
02:21 Then it just went on from there.
02:23 Fall camp made us a lot closer, too.
02:25 But really, July when the coaches going on vacation was when we got really close.
02:33 >> Yeah, it's a Friday night game against a team that's three and
02:37 one, one day shorter preparation.
02:40 Coach Brown talked about what the challenges is gonna be.
02:42 For you guys, what are the one or
02:44 two most important things you guys have to do to win the schedule?
02:48 >> As an offensive line or just like both teams?
02:51 >> Offensive line, for you, defensive.
02:52 >> Offensive line, they come off the ball hard,
02:58 they like to penetrate, so just staying in our technique and
03:04 having trust in the playing that we have out for
03:10 the weekend, just really staying true to us.
03:14 Just come out and play how we've been doing, attack and
03:17 play the whole first, second, third, and fourth quarter.
03:20 And be dominant the whole quarter.
03:22 And really get to the quarterback, cuz we played Brennan Armstrong at Virginia.
03:26 He's a great quarterback, good mobile quarterback.
03:29 But once you get him around a lot, he started to really show his true character.
03:34 And I feel like we start him a lot, and we can make some things happen.
03:39 >> Yeah, it does, kind of going off of that, what will it take?
03:41 Cuz I mean, you guys got some pressure, obviously, this past week.
03:43 Obviously, Asher had two sacks.
03:45 What will it take to kind of get to him and
03:47 get some of those pressures to show up as sacks and tackles for loss?
03:50 >> I feel like coming in, we have a great game plan against them, and
03:53 they're a lot.
03:54 I feel like we should definitely get to the quarterback this week.
03:56 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:01 >> Willie, Jawar's been having such a great, successful year running the ball.
04:05 What makes it easy for him to offer a guy like, play for a guy like Jawar and
04:12 get him a run for the count?
04:15 >> It's great, really with Jawar, it's like any play could be a breakout play.
04:21 And I feel like we've seen that every game this year,
04:25 just the big runs that he could break.
04:27 And his vision too, when we watched the film in practice and after games,
04:32 it's like sometimes the smallest hole could break for 20, 30 plus yards.
04:38 And it really is a great blocking for him.
04:42 The whole running back group, really, they just, they know what they need to do.
04:47 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:50 >> Just asking the coaches last week about the sack stick,
04:52 it's obviously kind of an incentive everybody.
04:54 Every school kind of seems like they have their own version of,
04:56 whether it's turnover chain or whatever that is.
04:59 I guess, does that kind of motivate you guys to get the sack stick?
05:02 Or I guess, how much of an incentive is that for
05:05 you guys in terms of just adding that extra motivation?
05:08 >> It definitely is a big motivation.
05:10 Coming from last year, we had the definition of sacks.
05:13 So this year, we're definitely trying to get way more sacks.
05:15 We got a lot of pressure this year, but
05:17 we're definitely trying to get more sacks as the games come about.
05:20 But I feel like everybody loves to compete.
05:24 I feel like it'd be my own, it's competitive, getting sacks and stuff.
05:28 That's cool, we're trying to get the W as well.
05:30 Yeah, sacks is definitely needed.
05:31 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:34 >> Does no position probably rotates as much and
05:39 as many players as one does?
05:41 I assume it keeps you fresh with this commitment.
05:44 Are there times you think, darn, I really wanna stay out here for a few more plays?
05:49 >> Yes, definitely.
05:50 There's times like that where you gotta think like that.
05:54 But also, you gotta also remember that some teams run tempo, and
05:57 some players are like, you can see some players are getting tired and
06:01 frustrated with the whole time.
06:03 Cuz it's been a couple times, I've been in a game and they ran tempo.
06:07 And so you gotta get the best fresh legs out there.
06:09 And I feel like our fresh legs, everybody plays the same and
06:12 everybody plays on the first, second, and third string.
06:17 >> Willie, when looking at the film on NC State so far, what kind of stands out
06:21 about their defense, specifically their front seven and linebacker, Peyton Wilson,
06:26 number 11?
06:26 >> They flow to the ball.
06:31 I know West Virginia game I sat down, I watched a lot of that week at down time
06:36 at the hotel, and really just bringing pressures.
06:40 We know we gonna have to really dial in on everything they do on defense,
06:47 so they can switch up from three, three stack to the four down.
06:50 It's just bringing pressure and stopping penetration.
06:53 >> Yeah, you guys are on national TV this week,
06:59 the only game on Friday night ESPN.
07:01 It was just announced that Notre Dame game 730 on ABC.
07:05 You're almost in the top 25.
07:07 Do you guys have a sense of what's at stake here in the next couple weeks?
07:11 >> I feel like every week is a big week, but we just really try to stay in the week.
07:17 Just go one and over, and just let everything take care of itself.
07:21 Like we know what we gotta do to reach our goals.
07:25 So week in, week out, we just stand in and doing it.
07:31 >> Speaking about Notre Dame, I feel like we just treat every week like it's
07:35 one game a week, really, one game.
07:37 Treat every game like one game.
07:38 So one and all go one and all that week, and take it to the next week.
07:42 >> Willie, what's this season been like for you just to be here, and
07:47 kind of your journey?
07:48 I mean, you've been a couple different places, but
07:51 to end up here with Coach Brown and Coach Owens.
07:53 What's it been like to be here and
07:55 kind of be now one of the main focus, the guys that everybody kind of focuses on?
08:00 >> I love it.
08:03 This is my last year.
08:04 Coach O, he recruited me when I was in a transfer portal before.
08:09 So we already had a relationship, so once he hit me up, and
08:14 then I came to my visit, just seeing how everybody was, and
08:17 the environment that is in this building.
08:22 I knew this is where I wanted to come, and it's close to home, so
08:25 just being around everybody, it brings the fun back to football.
08:29 And just like the environment, like being around everybody.
08:34 >> Anybody else?
08:37 [BLANK_AUDIO]
