00:00 >> [INAUDIBLE]
00:04 >> [LAUGH]
00:06 >> And he plays throw the ball.
00:10 >> He is extremely athletic and he does have good hands,
00:14 just watching him run around and play catch on the field.
00:18 >> Dave Gordon's made his name as a defensive coach.
00:27 He's been really good for a long time.
00:29 As you get ready to go against NC State,
00:31 what are the primary challenges of running the ball and attacking their defense?
00:36 >> Yeah, I think they do a great job defensively.
00:39 They fly the football.
00:41 They have really good D linemen, good linebackers.
00:46 They can create havoc and cause some problems.
00:50 So it's gonna be a challenge this week.
00:52 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:56 >> Not talking about the card, but what about his game this year?
00:59 Willie has been really solid, it seems like, up there.
01:04 Can you talk about what he's brought for you guys on the line and
01:08 kind of what he's been like in the locker room with you guys?
01:12 He's been a couple places and when you got him, there was some excitement.
01:16 >> Absolutely, and I think the thing with Willie is the experience and
01:21 the adaptability being from place to place.
01:24 And he understands football, he understands angles.
01:29 And we're still working on getting him down a little bit lower, and
01:33 you always wanna play.
01:34 But from an athletic standpoint, from a leadership standpoint,
01:37 he does a tremendous job for us up front.
01:40 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:44 >> Yeah, NC State's been super successful this year with red zone defense.
01:47 What have you maybe seen on the field that's made them successful?
01:50 And what do you guys kinda wanna attack to make sure you guys can push in
01:53 the next place?
01:54 >> Right, like I said, I think they do a really good job on defense.
01:58 They fly around, so it's gonna be a tough challenge this week.
02:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:15 >> You guys do a really good job up here, fifth in the country,
02:18 allowing tackles for loss.
02:20 What goes into that from just the entire group to just not allow guys in the back?
02:26 >> Well, I think anytime you can stay ahead of the sticks, it always helps.
02:29 So always trying to get across the line of scrimmage,
02:35 generate positive yards, and I think it's a full team effort.
02:41 From the quarterback to the receivers, the O-line, the running backs, tight ends.
02:46 I think it's a group effort.
02:48 And it's something the guys take pride in.
02:50 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:53 >> Richard, Peyton Wilson is a guy for NC State who's been there a while.
02:57 He's super talented, a lot of experience, off the hot start this season.
03:01 How does a guy like that alter the game plan and
03:05 what you guys want to do offensively?
03:08 >> Yeah, he's a really good football player.
03:11 He moves around a lot.
03:13 He'll play linebacker level, play down the line of scrimmage.
03:18 And coupled with a few of their interior D linemen they have, number one, number
03:21 nine, they do a good job.
03:24 And he's a guy that we have to take notice and know where he's at for sure.
03:27 >> Yeah.
03:30 Coach, you played here and you played in some big games at the tight end position.
03:34 Any play that stands out in your career here that was,
03:37 I know you scored some touchdowns in some big games and things like that.
03:40 Anything that you can recall or remember that was for
03:43 you kind of a shining moment?
03:45 >> [LAUGH] No, no, no off the top of my head.
03:49 >> [LAUGH] >> Just overall,
03:52 it was a great experience to be here.
03:54 That's why I'm fortunate, very blessed to be back.
03:57 I take a lot of pride in this place.
04:00 So, but we had a few moments, right?
04:03 So I know last week they played up on the Jumbotron,
04:07 the game versus Florida State up there.
04:08 So it was back when we were in Conference USA, I thought it was a huge win.
04:13 I think I still got the goalpost in my office up there.
04:17 >> The rain night.
04:18 >> The rain night, yeah, absolutely.
04:20 Rain night, the monsoon, it was a downpour, I know that much.
04:25 >> Richard, what have you seen with Austin?
04:28 He got some first half reps the other night.
04:30 What has he done to kind of break into that rotation to be able to use him in
04:36 some key situations?
04:37 >> Right, and I thought Austin last week had a great week of practice and
04:41 preparation, and he brings physicality to the room and to the group.
04:46 And I think that's kind of his game.
04:49 And I felt we felt comfortable in putting him into rotation,
04:54 so I'm gonna give him the ball.
04:57 It also helps the guy stay fresh up front and be able to play for the long haul.
05:01 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:03 >> Anybody else?
05:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
