00:20 Ten senators were elected and the Senate Committee on Ways and Means released a committee report

00:27 to strengthen the recommendation that Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators be banned from the country.

00:33 In the committee's recommendation, they are asking the Executive Branch

00:37 for a gradual phase-out of POGO within three months.

00:42 Some senators believe that instead of helping the economy, POGO is becoming a headache

00:49 because it is involved in scams, fraud, and other cases of human trafficking.

00:56 The scam that we see is that POGO is one.

00:58 It means that as long as POGO is here, there will be scams.

01:03 And if there are scams, there will be human trafficking.

01:08 If Senator Wynne Gatchalian asks, he wants an immediate ban and not just a gradual ban.

01:14 But the question is, how about those who will lose their jobs because of POGO?

01:19 Out of the 100,000 plus who are working here, only 17,000 are Filipinos.

01:25 So our recommendation is that because these Filipinos are local workers, highly skilled, IT-oriented,

01:31 help them find jobs for them in BPO or other IT-related industries.

01:39 Based on the committee report, the benefits from POGO are overrated.

01:45 Aside from that, the criminal activity of 2022 increased.

01:50 Like kidnapping, illegal detention, prostitution, and money laundering that are already happening in POGO.

01:57 Some senators want the jobs of the affected Filipinos, POGO workers, to be reduced.
