00:01:46 We should have Thrawn this time, right?
00:01:49 Maybe.
00:01:50 Thrawn or Ezra.
00:01:52 I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring for,
00:01:53 we see Ezra.
00:01:55 Both.
00:01:56 I'm gonna go both.
00:01:57 (laughing)
00:01:58 I control the edit.
00:01:58 Bet on both because then you'll win one way or another.
00:02:02 Whoa.
00:02:04 Intergalactic hyperspace travel looks sick.
00:02:07 Trippy.
00:02:11 So psychedelic.
00:02:13 My God, it's full of stars.
00:02:15 This is what happens when you have the death sticks.
00:02:17 Intergalactic travel within a star whale.
00:02:20 Now I really have done it all.
00:02:22 I remember them from the stories you would tell us.
00:02:25 When you were a child building a lightsaber?
00:02:26 I still have those stories in my archive memory.
00:02:28 Would you like to hear one?
00:02:29 Yes.
00:02:30 Oh yes, please, lore, dump it.
00:02:32 Not right now.
00:02:33 She went with the enemy willingly.
00:02:35 Impossible.
00:02:36 I saw it through the force when I held the map.
00:02:39 Well, that is troubling.
00:02:41 You don't seem concerned, buddy.
00:02:43 I'm convinced Hu Yaying is force sensitive.
00:02:45 (laughing)
00:02:46 Anybody can be, you know, in the new Star Wars.
00:02:49 Force runs through all living things.
00:02:51 She was fated to make that choice.
00:02:52 There wasn't enough time to prepare her
00:02:56 to make the right one.
00:02:57 Not destiny, don't forget.
00:02:58 Force provides you with insight,
00:03:00 but it does not give one all the answers.
00:03:02 Perhaps for Sabine, it was the only choice.
00:03:06 Hmm.
00:03:07 A choice she made for herself.
00:03:09 That is your fear.
00:03:12 No.
00:03:13 You can't control her.
00:03:14 Second thought, tell me one of those stories.
00:03:17 Lore.
00:03:18 We're not gonna hear it, Michael.
00:03:19 A long time ago.
00:03:20 Ah.
00:03:21 Say it.
00:03:22 In a galaxy far, far away.
00:03:24 (laughing)
00:03:25 Is that the first time a character's actually said it?
00:03:27 At least in live action, right?
00:03:29 Yeah.
00:03:29 That's lovely.
00:03:30 Title, title, which meanings I never properly decipher
00:03:34 what they mean.
00:03:35 Far, far away.
00:03:39 That's where we're going.
00:03:40 That's the one title I will easily understand.
00:03:43 It's perfect.
00:03:43 It's everything.
00:03:44 I was hoping for a room with a view.
00:03:49 You get the best view in the house.
00:03:50 I would think this would be an opportunity for reflection.
00:03:53 I try to avoid that.
00:03:54 I can understand why.
00:03:56 There are no mirrors.
00:03:57 We had a deal.
00:03:58 You promised me I would see Ezra again.
00:04:00 It takes time to get there.
00:04:01 Careful how you word that.
00:04:03 The prisoner.
00:04:03 Is impatient.
00:04:06 Her focus to find Ezra Bridget blinds her.
00:04:09 I believe she can still be of some use to us.
00:04:12 How so?
00:04:14 We have arrived at our destination.
00:04:16 Oh, I'm so excited.
00:04:16 Preparing to exit hyperspace.
00:04:19 Thank you for flying Star Tours.
00:04:20 That's beautiful visual.
00:04:26 Yeah.
00:04:27 Oh, what is it going to look like?
00:04:28 Like space.
00:04:31 Okay.
00:04:32 The final frontier.
00:04:33 Oh, cool.
00:04:34 That's sick.
00:04:35 That is Pyrrhidia.
00:04:36 Pyrrhidia.
00:04:37 The ancient home world of my ancestors, the Daphne.
00:04:40 Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking.
00:04:42 That's what he said.
00:04:43 Let's get witchy.
00:04:44 The migration route used by the star whales
00:04:46 as they traversed the void from one galaxy to the other.
00:04:49 Fascinating.
00:04:50 Among the first to harness and ride the creatures
00:04:53 in the days before time was counted.
00:04:55 Oh, perky history.
00:04:56 Wow, wow.
00:04:57 The whales came here to die.
00:04:58 Pyrrhidia is a graveyard.
00:05:00 Oh, good.
00:05:01 Let's build some stuff on top of it.
00:05:02 A Dathomir whale graveyard.
00:05:04 I can't believe I got a guess right.
00:05:06 I'm so proud of you, Gray.
00:05:08 Dude, you're killing it.
00:05:09 Next season, it'll be me.
00:05:10 Let us not keep them waiting.
00:05:12 Interesting.
00:05:15 Oh, I'm so excited.
00:05:18 I tell you, the Nightsisters know how to build
00:05:24 some cool looking ships.
00:05:25 Wait 'til you see their graveyard.
00:05:27 It just only made sense because I'm like,
00:05:33 how would Thrawn be communicating and all that
00:05:35 and Nodick talk to her?
00:05:36 Why would she want to go, right?
00:05:37 Yeah, no, the alliance is beginning
00:05:39 to make much more sense.
00:05:40 And in the weapon against the greater adversary.
00:05:43 (dramatic music)
00:05:46 Whoa.
00:05:46 Oh, man.
00:05:48 It's like the statues in Lord of the Rings.
00:05:50 I love how they're keeping it in this perspective.
00:05:56 It's like when you're on a plane,
00:05:57 you're like, what is it?
00:05:59 Is that the Grand Canyon?
00:06:00 Holy moly.
00:06:03 Nothing uncomfortable about that.
00:06:04 The mouths on these things, Jesus.
00:06:06 That's what he said.
00:06:08 Aw, she's so happy it's home.
00:06:09 But like culturally, what happens when you're separated
00:06:12 by an entire galaxy for that long?
00:06:14 My ship is pure gold.
00:06:24 Where's Thrawn with his mimosa?
00:06:27 You think we'll see him this soon or?
00:06:29 Is he lounging on the--
00:06:30 No, I think--
00:06:31 Sisters.
00:06:32 Let's get witchy, come on.
00:06:33 Oh, this is so exciting for Star Wars.
00:06:38 Oh, wow.
00:06:42 Oh, it's a ghost concert.
00:06:43 Keep it together, Morgan.
00:06:52 (laughing)
00:06:53 Oh my God.
00:06:54 Look right at me.
00:06:55 Welcome, child of Dathomir.
00:06:56 Oh, wow.
00:06:57 I like the echo.
00:06:58 You do our ancestors credit.
00:07:00 Thank you, great mother.
00:07:01 Great mother?
00:07:02 You heard our call to you in the dream.
00:07:04 Oh.
00:07:05 Visions guided me across the stars.
00:07:07 Oh.
00:07:08 That's right.
00:07:09 More witches.
00:07:10 (laughing)
00:07:11 More witches.
00:07:12 And you came as Thrawn promised.
00:07:15 Where is Thrawn?
00:07:16 You shall wait.
00:07:17 He is coming.
00:07:18 They're talking to us.
00:07:20 In episode eight, he will be here.
00:07:22 It reeks of Jedi.
00:07:23 (laughing)
00:07:25 Oh.
00:07:26 Nope, look at the wrong people.
00:07:27 It is dangerous.
00:07:29 Yeah, historically speaking.
00:07:33 Oh.
00:07:34 I am so into this right now.
00:07:42 (dramatic music)
00:07:44 It's another training exercise.
00:07:46 Close your eyes.
00:07:46 Ooh.
00:07:50 Ooh.
00:07:52 Oh.
00:07:52 It will wait in solitude.
00:07:56 It.
00:07:57 (laughing)
00:07:59 Hey, we had a deal.
00:08:00 Where is Ezra?
00:08:01 Where is he?
00:08:03 Ezra's where you're going right now.
00:08:06 This is the reunion.
00:08:07 I feel it.
00:08:08 Do you feel it?
00:08:09 (eerie music)
00:08:12 It just feels so soon.
00:08:13 Soon, we're in episode.
00:08:16 We're almost done with this, Michael.
00:08:18 This attack.
00:08:19 He's gonna be on the other side of the wall.
00:08:21 I thought, yeah.
00:08:23 Loth-wolves?
00:08:24 Ooh.
00:08:24 Oh.
00:08:25 Are those Loth-wolves?
00:08:27 I mean, I can't imagine those are Loth-wolves,
00:08:29 but they look like wolves.
00:08:30 This is phenomenal.
00:08:33 I mean, Loth-wolves have the capability of.
00:08:35 It's true.
00:08:37 You have some force sensitivity going on.
00:08:39 This is a fascinating series of events for him.
00:08:45 Where does he fit in?
00:08:51 I think he's bored.
00:08:52 Thought we'd be more into our plan by now.
00:08:55 This is a land of dreams and madness.
00:08:57 Children's stories come to life.
00:09:00 It is a silly place.
00:09:01 I know no such stories.
00:09:02 Aw.
00:09:03 And I was a bit older than you are now.
00:09:05 Mm-hmm.
00:09:07 (laughs)
00:09:08 I watched everything I knew burn.
00:09:09 The Jedi Temple.
00:09:13 Oh, it's the first time she's hearing this.
00:09:16 Look at history.
00:09:17 You realize it's all inevitable.
00:09:19 Thanos.
00:09:20 Fall of the Jedi.
00:09:22 Rise of the Empire.
00:09:23 All great titles.
00:09:25 It repeats again and again.
00:09:27 Always with some new hope.
00:09:29 Break the wheel.
00:09:30 What I seek is the beginning,
00:09:33 so I may finally bring this cycle to an end.
00:09:36 Yeah.
00:09:36 I love them together.
00:09:38 I know.
00:09:39 And that beginning is here.
00:09:40 If the old stories are true.
00:09:44 God, it fucking sucks that he died.
00:09:48 Yeah, I'm sad there can't be like a spinoff
00:09:49 about the two of them.
00:09:50 God, for so many reasons.
00:09:52 And just watching this, you're like, "Shit."
00:09:54 What am I doing?
00:09:56 Respond, Ezra.
00:09:57 Part of me wonders if there's other Jedi in this galaxy.
00:10:00 Maybe he's found his place among them.
00:10:01 Or he's just a nomad.
00:10:05 Oh shit, what if Ezra becomes,
00:10:08 she becomes Padawan to him in some way?
00:10:10 Maybe.
00:10:12 Do this, fear is the mind killer.
00:10:17 Come on.
00:10:18 I bet that's Ezra, dude.
00:10:19 This place is too dark.
00:10:20 I bet that's Ezra.
00:10:23 No, damn it.
00:10:24 I think Throne's arriving.
00:10:27 The amount of misleading they do with her in the Force.
00:10:29 Yeah.
00:10:31 It's brilliant.
00:10:31 Playing chicken with us.
00:10:34 Oh, someone's here to make an impression.
00:10:37 Hell yeah.
00:10:40 Oh, glad to see he got it fixed up.
00:10:42 I know, Pergol's kept it intact.
00:10:44 Yeah, that's sick.
00:10:45 That's so sick.
00:10:46 You can kind of see where some parts
00:10:49 might've been fixed up.
00:10:50 Oh, look at the symbols.
00:10:52 That's so dope.
00:10:53 This would've been cool on a big screen, I'll tell you.
00:10:58 Maybe.
00:10:59 Yeah, you could see, that's cool.
00:11:02 Wow.
00:11:03 Wow, the scale of that.
00:11:06 Oh boy.
00:11:09 Benny Jezerett, we're right.
00:11:10 Throne's here.
00:11:19 (laughing)
00:11:20 Jump in with me.
00:11:21 He's got a whole army.
00:11:23 He sure does.
00:11:24 Whoa.
00:11:30 I bet that guy's gonna amount to not much.
00:11:32 Oh, they're chanting his name.
00:11:39 Nice frame.
00:11:47 Wow.
00:11:51 That guy looks really cool
00:11:52 and he's probably gonna be no one.
00:11:54 Great music.
00:12:00 Again, Jesus.
00:12:01 And just elements of Throne's theme.
00:12:03 Wow, he looks so good.
00:12:04 I love that they got him.
00:12:10 Hell yeah.
00:12:16 Enoch.
00:12:21 That's three days.
00:12:29 Oh, he knows who that prisoner is.
00:12:33 They're like the Fates.
00:12:41 General.
00:12:49 They served together.
00:12:57 Isn't that a, to Ezra?
00:12:59 Yes.
00:13:03 Did she bring art with her?
00:13:04 You can use it to bargain too.
00:13:09 Love the vibe of this episode.
00:13:15 Oh boy, this is a fun reunion.
00:13:17 Yeah, it's so grim, so ominous.
00:13:27 [laughing]
00:13:29 Wow.
00:13:30 [laughing]
00:13:56 Of course you do.
00:13:57 Oh, so he's just on the planet alone.
00:14:05 Brilliant.
00:14:10 That's fun.
00:14:16 It's also quite possible that your friend is dead.
00:14:21 If you survived, I'm sure he's doing just fine.
00:14:27 Burn.
00:14:30 You've gambled the fate of your galaxy on that belief.
00:14:35 You wouldn't understand.
00:14:36 Perhaps not.
00:14:39 Oh boy.
00:14:42 Rattlesnakes.
00:14:44 [rattling]
00:14:47 Yeah, it's nasty.
00:14:48 Either way.
00:14:49 Filling in the missing armor with gold
00:14:52 in the Japanese style.
00:14:53 Yeah, it's brilliant.
00:14:54 Romanesque gladiator.
00:14:55 They call that kitsune.
00:14:57 So the night troopers are culturally appropriating
00:15:03 Japanese culture.
00:15:04 That's right.
00:15:05 Wouldn't be the first time in Star Wars.
00:15:08 Have you heard of them, Jedi?
00:15:09 Nomads wander this wasteland
00:15:11 and prey upon each other for survival.
00:15:13 Is it nomad?
00:15:14 Mad Max world.
00:15:16 Kind of feel like they're sending her
00:15:18 bars so that they can find him.
00:15:24 You think we're doing you a solid?
00:15:30 When really you're doing us a solid.
00:15:32 I feel like I'm watching Game of Thrones right now.
00:15:35 She's riding out north of the wall.
00:15:37 Dune of Thrones.
00:15:43 How desolate this is.
00:15:44 Yeah, it's really does feel like Lord of the Rings.
00:15:47 You may follow her.
00:15:48 I thought you were to honor your agreement.
00:15:50 Yes, to catch Bridger.
00:15:51 Sabine Wren will have the opportunity
00:15:53 of finding Ezra Bridger, just as promised.
00:15:56 And if she does.
00:15:57 Bait, bait.
00:15:58 You and your master will destroy them both.
00:16:00 Those loopholes will get you.
00:16:05 I think Ezra could probably whoop their asses.
00:16:07 So curious what Ezra's like
00:16:08 at this particular point in time.
00:16:10 I think he's probably grown
00:16:11 exceptionally more powerful over time.
00:16:13 I wonder if the beginning
00:16:19 was the only time we'd see Ahsoka.
00:16:21 I love the contrast of her.
00:16:26 Whoa, damn.
00:16:28 Use the fricking force, my dude.
00:16:30 Wow, cool.
00:16:35 Nice helmet.
00:16:36 I love new species.
00:16:37 Come on, Ezra.
00:16:40 Oof.
00:16:41 Oh, we are going cool.
00:16:43 Look at this whole samurai here.
00:16:44 Sick kind of samurai, exactly.
00:16:45 Hell yeah.
00:16:48 Ooh, hell yeah.
00:16:49 Pass that Mandalorian.
00:16:51 Now we...
00:16:55 Ooh.
00:16:55 Say who you're looking for.
00:17:03 Oh, they're gonna see that.
00:17:04 That's gonna...
00:17:05 Sweet.
00:17:07 Yes.
00:17:08 Ooh.
00:17:10 That was a great fight for her.
00:17:12 Nice.
00:17:15 Korn, you win.
00:17:20 Kind of reminiscent of the Tusken Raiders.
00:17:24 But the way that creature looked at the lightsaber,
00:17:26 there was a sense of familiarity.
00:17:28 Yeah.
00:17:28 Oh, I like this galaxy.
00:17:33 All right, I'm sorry.
00:17:37 Bailing right on him.
00:17:38 This is so fricking cool.
00:17:40 God, the symmetry.
00:17:41 And it does feel like a much more ancient
00:17:43 part of the galaxy.
00:17:44 Should we not send more troops to support them?
00:17:47 During this exile, our numbers have dwindled.
00:17:53 So no, two squads will suffice.
00:17:56 I cannot get over that they brought him over.
00:17:58 He's so good.
00:17:59 He's perfect.
00:18:00 Objective is to escape this galaxy.
00:18:02 Matters not whether Ren and Britch are killed.
00:18:05 The same can be said for your two mercenaries.
00:18:08 Be crazy.
00:18:09 I wish they'd done away with his outfit.
00:18:10 Also, did he just say he wants to wipe out the Phaelans?
00:18:14 Yeah.
00:18:15 I guess we'll have that Jedi turn.
00:18:17 Well, that creates an interesting alliance.
00:18:19 You!
00:18:20 You abandoned me!
00:18:22 All right.
00:18:23 We just met.
00:18:24 Should've known you were a coward.
00:18:26 Yeah, all the things she wants to say to Ahsoka.
00:18:28 It walks like a direwolf.
00:18:34 (dramatic music)
00:18:36 This does not feel like a volume.
00:18:38 Okay, fine.
00:18:40 I'll give you another chance,
00:18:42 but you better not bail on me this time.
00:18:44 Got it?
00:18:45 Bail on me?
00:18:46 I love how threatening this creature looks at first
00:18:48 and is actually so friendly.
00:18:50 It's a metaphor for this whole side of the galaxy.
00:18:53 Is he under a rock?
00:18:57 You're embarrassing yourself.
00:18:59 Come on.
00:19:01 Jedi, lift the rock.
00:19:03 Whoa.
00:19:04 Whoa.
00:19:07 Is this a speaking character?
00:19:10 Okay, yeah, that trick's over.
00:19:13 A little hermit crab guy.
00:19:14 Get up, come on, I can see you there.
00:19:17 Cool, a new creature.
00:19:19 Oh, I know, it's so exciting.
00:19:20 Actually, it kind of reminds me of the Jedi survivor.
00:19:28 No, this little fella.
00:19:29 This guy from Men in Black.
00:19:31 Little crustacean.
00:19:32 He has a cute little outfit.
00:19:35 No, it won't hurt you.
00:19:40 Do you understand?
00:19:41 I understand everybody.
00:19:42 It's really cute.
00:19:45 I know.
00:19:48 Is there a toy available yet to buy?
00:19:50 Moichindagus?
00:19:52 This is my friend Franklin.
00:20:01 He's gonna see the lightsaber.
00:20:02 Oh, he knows the symbol.
00:20:03 Oh, hell yes.
00:20:09 You know how it's possible.
00:20:11 Oh, Ezra has a little community.
00:20:13 Ezra befriending the animals.
00:20:18 Yeah.
00:20:19 I expect nothing less.
00:20:20 I mean, these aren't quite animals.
00:20:21 They're a civilization of sentient, well-dressed.
00:20:24 Let's go rock trolls from Frozen.
00:20:26 Do you know Ezra Bridger?
00:20:28 He's my friend.
00:20:30 Oh, Ezra Bridger.
00:20:32 Oh.
00:20:32 Or C-3PO when you need him.
00:20:39 Do you know the one she seeks so desperately?
00:20:41 He's too young.
00:20:42 Comes from a breed of Bokken Jedi.
00:20:44 Bokken Jedi.
00:20:45 I love that.
00:20:46 You, I train to be something more.
00:20:49 Super Jedi.
00:20:52 Jedi Pro plus Max.
00:20:54 Do you miss it?
00:20:54 The order.
00:20:55 Miss the benefits.
00:20:56 The idea of it.
00:20:57 Hmm.
00:20:59 That's a good one.
00:21:00 But not the truth.
00:21:01 The weakness.
00:21:02 There was no future there.
00:21:03 So many of these orders.
00:21:04 I see what once was the great witch kingdom
00:21:07 of the Dathmeri.
00:21:08 Standing on the rubble of greatness.
00:21:10 They seem eager to leave this place.
00:21:12 They flee a power greater than their own.
00:21:16 That's the grisk.
00:21:17 Finally, they flee a fixer upper.
00:21:20 Something calls to me.
00:21:21 Can't you hear it?
00:21:25 Can't you see it?
00:21:27 I see bandits.
00:21:28 Huh.
00:21:30 Yeah.
00:21:31 The enemy of our enemy is our friend.
00:21:33 For now.
00:21:36 Perhaps.
00:21:37 Man, the way they frame them together is perfect.
00:21:39 There's just something so much bigger at play
00:21:41 and I'm so excited for it.
00:21:43 Did he build like a little village?
00:21:54 Why is the baby so different looking than the parents?
00:21:57 Doesn't have a shell yet.
00:21:58 Gotta get a shell.
00:22:00 I hope that they don't do anything to these people.
00:22:02 I've got a bad feeling about that.
00:22:04 It's way too happy right now.
00:22:06 I knew I could count on you.
00:22:07 Oh.
00:22:08 Aw.
00:22:19 He looks great.
00:22:20 Hell yeah.
00:22:21 Though,
00:22:23 it sure took you long enough.
00:22:24 Classic.
00:22:27 You didn't exactly tell any of us where you were going.
00:22:31 That's because I didn't know where I was going.
00:22:33 Always a plan.
00:22:35 Never a good one.
00:22:36 Hey, it worked, didn't it?
00:22:38 Classic banter between them.
00:22:41 Didn't it?
00:22:42 Oh, he doesn't know it.
00:22:44 It worked.
00:22:46 (laughing)
00:22:48 (sighing)
00:22:55 Wow.
00:22:56 They make baby.
00:22:59 Do it right here.
00:23:01 Consecrate the reunion.
00:23:03 It's a sick outfit for him.
00:23:08 Yeah, look at that mail.
00:23:10 I see my friends found you.
00:23:12 Yeah.
00:23:14 Your very own band of rebels.
00:23:16 (laughing)
00:23:18 You're riding a howler.
00:23:19 How'd that happen?
00:23:20 In fact, how did you find me?
00:23:22 How did you get here?
00:23:25 Let's not talk about that.
00:23:26 That feels important.
00:23:27 Sabine.
00:23:28 Hey.
00:23:29 I just wanna be happy that I found you.
00:23:32 After all this time, can I have that?
00:23:34 Can the audience have that?
00:23:35 Of course.
00:23:36 (speaking in foreign language)
00:23:41 Then Bailin comes in and slaughters him.
00:23:43 (laughing)
00:23:45 The women, the children.
00:23:46 Turned into a clam bake.
00:23:48 Sabine.
00:23:49 Thanks for coming.
00:23:54 Can't wait to go home.
00:23:55 Without that.
00:23:58 It's pretty great casting, man.
00:24:01 It really does.
00:24:02 Oh, he's right on the money.
00:24:03 Yeah.
00:24:04 Made him look grown up in the right kind of ways.
00:24:06 They ride the travelers.
00:24:07 Well, that is unwelcome news.
00:24:12 Up to our eyeballs in Jedi.
00:24:13 Could it be the recently deceased Ahsoka Tano?
00:24:17 Impossible.
00:24:18 I thought it was beyond you.
00:24:20 Tano is the main Jedi.
00:24:23 Ron knows better.
00:24:24 Death and resurrection are common deceptions
00:24:26 played out by both Nightsister and Jedi.
00:24:28 (laughing)
00:24:31 And yet, he was once a Jedi.
00:24:34 So, we must regard him as flawed.
00:24:39 Run rings around you logically.
00:24:40 We shall consider Ahsoka Tano alive
00:24:42 until we know otherwise.
00:24:45 Finally a character with a brain.
00:24:46 And we shall prepare accordingly.
00:24:48 I want to know her background, history,
00:24:50 homeworld, her master, everything.
00:24:53 What kind of art she likes.
00:24:54 If a star whale approaches Peridia,
00:24:56 destroy it with prejudice.
00:24:58 Say something racist before you do it.
00:25:00 I shall once again require the aid
00:25:03 of your dark magic.
00:25:06 Yes, let's go.
00:25:08 The thread of destiny demands it, Grandad.
00:25:11 Let's go.
00:25:13 (dramatic music)
00:25:15 All right.
00:25:21 He kind of looks like Robert Patrick.
00:25:22 A little bit.
00:25:23 There's a little Vladimir Putin too in his face.
00:25:26 That's what they were going for, boy.
00:25:29 Blue Putin.
00:25:31 That was well directed too.
00:25:32 All righty, well, I want to mention something
00:25:34 that if we do have like a Real Rejects podcast.
00:25:38 And so if you are listening to this on Apple, Spotify,
00:25:42 whatever it may be, please rate it.
00:25:44 That would really help us out a lot.
00:25:46 And also I did not mention this at the top.
00:25:48 Probably should have.
00:25:49 Thank you to everyone who's been buying shirts
00:25:50 from Real Rejects Paral Man.
00:25:52 It's been really awesome to see you guys' support.
00:25:55 Right now I'm wearing my, you know,
00:25:57 the protection services.
00:26:00 I love that one so much.
00:26:01 Yeah, everybody came up with that.
00:26:02 It's so funny.
00:26:03 CBS.
00:26:04 Yeah, I love this one.
00:26:05 Of course, we've had our Ahsoka shirts.
00:26:06 A lot of you guys have been buying that as well.
00:26:07 We got a bunch of other apparel
00:26:08 and working on a new Ahsoka shirt right now.
00:26:12 And it's almost done.
00:26:13 It's almost done.
00:26:14 I think you guys are really going to like it.
00:26:15 I really love that one.
00:26:16 But anyway, let's talk about the episode.
00:26:18 All right, who goes first?
00:26:20 How about this?
00:26:21 Let's weigh it by this scale.
00:26:23 Okay, John Coldstone's Creamery Ranket.
00:26:28 What would you say really quick?
00:26:31 I'll go through every one.
00:26:32 Between like it, love it, and gotta have it?
00:26:35 I guess it's a love it then.
00:26:36 All right.
00:26:37 You know?
00:26:38 All right, Michael?
00:26:39 It's the birthday cake flavor.
00:26:43 And like, could they add some cookie?
00:26:46 Oh, wait.
00:26:47 We're going by the increments of this.
00:26:50 Oh, I'm making my order.
00:26:52 I felt cookies and cream about this episode.
00:26:54 You know what I mean?
00:26:55 A few nuts, a cherry, maybe?
00:26:56 No, I think this was a,
00:26:58 it was the perfect opening to something new.
00:27:01 Which is my favorite.
00:27:03 So, are you on a like it?
00:27:05 Do you like it or love it?
00:27:08 Or gotta have it?
00:27:09 Or are you like?
00:27:09 I gotta have it.
00:27:10 Okay, so that's the highest rank.
00:27:12 Yeah, I gotta have it.
00:27:13 And I love it.
00:27:14 And I like it.
00:27:15 (laughing)
00:27:17 All right.
00:27:18 See all of the above.
00:27:19 And I would say I,
00:27:23 nah, I gotta have it.
00:27:24 Yeah, I gotta have it.
00:27:26 Now I feel pressured to up my rating.
00:27:29 I really like this one a lot.
00:27:32 This is one of the best ones.
00:27:33 Yeah.
00:27:34 So, John, considering your overwhelming praise
00:27:37 was not as high as whatever Michael was doing.
00:27:40 What do you go first, man?
00:27:41 Yeah, I mean, this and the previous episodes
00:27:44 certainly feel like they have a fluidity of momentum
00:27:48 that naturally comes one into the other.
00:27:51 And I, you know, again,
00:27:54 as the least comprehensively knowledgeable person
00:27:58 in this room, this episode--
00:28:00 What, at the Star Wars or in general?
00:28:01 In general, across life, I am certain.
00:28:05 But Star Wars as well.
00:28:06 This episode really did a nice thing for me,
00:28:10 which was it did feel like it was taking advantage
00:28:12 of that gradual, deliberate, and pensive tone
00:28:15 that this show particularly wants to put forward.
00:28:17 But also, it felt like it was applying that tone
00:28:21 in just the right amount to exploration
00:28:24 and to setting up suspense
00:28:27 and to all of the flavors they were hoping to build.
00:28:30 So the only reason I felt kind of short of being like,
00:28:32 "I gotta have it," is because I'm at that point
00:28:34 where I'm like, especially again,
00:28:36 as of these two episodes, I'm like,
00:28:37 "This is cooking, and I'm really enjoying
00:28:39 the progression we're making."
00:28:41 Even the arrival of Thrawn, the arrival of Ezra,
00:28:43 those are things that certainly probably mean more to you,
00:28:46 but to me, still got me excited, still got me worried.
00:28:49 I mean, you know, we've had all these issues
00:28:50 in these shows of things being set up well
00:28:52 and maybe not being paid off.
00:28:53 But for right now, the introduction of this new big bad,
00:28:58 seeing this new side of the world,
00:28:59 I was quite pulled in and dazzled by a lot of that stuff.
00:29:02 And yeah, now the only thing sort of,
00:29:05 I've learned with these shows to be a little bit cautious
00:29:08 as to how they go about sticking their landings
00:29:10 and paying things off.
00:29:11 But this felt like the kind of episode
00:29:14 that both manages to give you not everything,
00:29:18 you know, it doesn't blow the load too soon,
00:29:20 but this one actually does give you some things
00:29:22 you've been anticipating and it does so
00:29:24 whilst maintaining the gradual tone they've wanted to-
00:29:26 - Just have to think about grandma.
00:29:28 - This was very nicely pitched.
00:29:32 This was very well balanced.
00:29:33 And I am just hoping that they can maintain
00:29:36 and continue to build on this as we go.
00:29:39 - That was really funny.
00:29:41 All right, yeah.
00:29:43 This part of the chapters in YouTube video
00:29:45 is called "General Thoughts,"
00:29:47 or just "Ahsoka Episode Six Review."
00:29:50 - I'm not familiar with "General Thoughts."
00:29:51 - Well, we're gonna have chapters for like,
00:29:55 you know, Thrawn, Ezra.
00:29:58 So what is your general review?
00:30:01 - I mean, my general thoughts are
00:30:03 they took us to a new galaxy.
00:30:05 I think they successfully achieved making us feel
00:30:09 like we were in a new galaxy.
00:30:10 I really love that this one is inspired
00:30:13 a lot more heavily on like Eastern culture.
00:30:18 And then particularly like really leaning
00:30:20 into some of the more kind of mythological
00:30:23 and almost fantastical elements of "Star Wars."
00:30:26 What they did in terms of like demonstrating
00:30:31 how time has passed and what they've done
00:30:33 with like Thrawn and his people,
00:30:35 I thought was just marvelous.
00:30:38 Like clearly Dave Filoni like played "Fallout New Vegas"
00:30:41 and got some inspiration from some of the sick,
00:30:44 like gladiator slash like samurai-esque inspiration
00:30:49 of the armor.
00:30:52 But it was new and refreshing.
00:30:54 And it was nice to like see an alien species
00:30:56 that we didn't all know right away.
00:30:58 And to almost in that moment of being lost in translation,
00:31:02 and even like to your point,
00:31:05 like as we were entering the galaxy
00:31:07 and seeing it through the perspective
00:31:08 of them looking out the window,
00:31:10 it was nice to have something just new.
00:31:13 So "General Thoughts" are,
00:31:15 I'm like super excited to see where this goes.
00:31:18 - Yeah, yeah.
00:31:19 I loved, I mean, I agree with everything you guys said.
00:31:23 I love the mood of it.
00:31:25 Like I was just vibing with this episode.
00:31:27 Again, that tone, which has been somewhat conflicting
00:31:30 for some audiences, and then even for ourselves
00:31:33 in a couple of episodes
00:31:34 where it wasn't quite jiving with us,
00:31:36 it's very much applicable for stepping into unknown terrain,
00:31:40 where everything kind of feels like it could be a threat
00:31:44 of some kind.
00:31:45 And I think the transportation to this new galaxy
00:31:48 is really, really cool.
00:31:50 I didn't quite yet,
00:31:52 I really feel like we just ventured to a new planet.
00:31:55 I haven't quite got that feeling of,
00:31:59 whoa, crazy new galaxy.
00:32:03 It feels like, yeah, I need some new creatures,
00:32:05 some new aliens.
00:32:07 But the point of it was to establish like the ancient ruins.
00:32:12 And I really enjoyed that part of it.
00:32:16 And I think the build and setup of what's to come
00:32:19 is really exciting stuff.
00:32:21 I think this is one of those episodes
00:32:23 that can be easy for some people perhaps to criticize
00:32:26 as well because of the buildup to a new galaxy.
00:32:30 And it is just kind of barren wasteland
00:32:32 and you don't really see much that feels like entirely new.
00:32:37 'Cause a lot of it feels like,
00:32:39 if anything, it feels like multiverse version
00:32:42 of some of the things we kind of know already
00:32:44 and that we've been familiar with.
00:32:47 However, it is just the first one.
00:32:50 And to me, what's more important is establishing goals,
00:32:54 motivation, character, more than aesthetic,
00:32:57 because if we were getting more of that
00:32:59 and less of character,
00:33:01 then we'd be complaining about that shit instead.
00:33:03 And I feel like what we got outweighs it all.
00:33:07 Now let's really talk about them.
00:33:08 I'm like, good stuff, right?
00:33:10 - Well, I think that's a perfect segue
00:33:13 if it's right to talk about Thrawn.
00:33:14 - Yes.
00:33:15 I am chomping at the bit here.
00:33:19 When can I go in there and talk about Thrawn?
00:33:21 - Right after this prolonged pause.
00:33:26 - After a word from our sponsors.
00:33:29 Thrawn and the Nightsisters.
00:33:35 - One chapter at a time.
00:33:40 - We're gonna bundle them up for time's sake.
00:33:42 They are trying to flee this galaxy.
00:33:46 And that to me is the most exciting part
00:33:48 of this entire story,
00:33:50 is that you have these sage elders,
00:33:54 and I love how they've really played into the fates
00:33:57 from Greek mythology, even with the threat.
00:34:00 It's not so on the nose.
00:34:01 It is the nose.
00:34:06 There is something bigger and scarier
00:34:09 that they are fleeing from.
00:34:11 And I think when you kind of recontextualize this story,
00:34:14 and that the reason that the first planet that we see
00:34:16 is so dead and barren is because this is a galaxy
00:34:21 that is near its end,
00:34:22 sets up something that is big and different and exciting.
00:34:28 And I think also puts all of these characters
00:34:31 into a very, very strange predicament.
00:34:35 And I think, like I've said from the beginning,
00:34:38 Thrawn is one of the most complex,
00:34:40 interesting characters in Star Wars.
00:34:42 I hope that they do him justice.
00:34:43 Just seeing the transition from animation to live action,
00:34:48 I mean, it's beautiful, other than his outfit,
00:34:50 which needs to go.
00:34:52 Everyone else got a sweet new deal.
00:34:54 - And it's a coming boy.
00:34:56 - Just something new.
00:34:57 But I get it.
00:34:59 They needed to-- - He's got a blue outfit.
00:35:00 But Lars played him in Rebels.
00:35:03 - Yeah, yeah, and to have that continuity of character.
00:35:07 And I thought his performance was just--
00:35:10 - They won't get that with Rex.
00:35:11 - No, 'cause Rex is probably dead at this point.
00:35:16 - No, I mean, when Rex appeared in the flashback.
00:35:18 - Oh, no, I mean, listen, they got it.
00:35:22 They were throwing us bird seed,
00:35:25 and we took it and ate it like happy little birds,
00:35:28 'cause we're all pigeons in Diafiloni's world.
00:35:32 - Put that on a planet.
00:35:34 - We're all pigeons perched on Diafiloni's world.
00:35:38 - That's exactly it.
00:35:39 But no, I mean, Thrawn's gravitas,
00:35:42 I think his weird cult-like thing
00:35:44 that he's got going on is really unique.
00:35:46 Part of me wondered for a minute,
00:35:47 'cause they were very, very gung-ho about Thrawn.
00:35:51 I mean, saying his name as he's like god, emperor.
00:35:54 Part of me wonders if the Dathomir witches
00:35:58 have maybe used a little of their magic
00:36:00 to bring a little extra obedience to the troops,
00:36:03 because it was a little cult-like.
00:36:06 And while Thrawn is compelling,
00:36:08 I'm not quite convinced that he's like god, emperor level.
00:36:11 But yeah, honestly, I would love to just--
00:36:15 - They've been stranded, and they need a leader.
00:36:18 - Is he like the Wilson volleyball
00:36:20 to their Tom Hanks and Castaway?
00:36:23 - That is the analogy you wish to draw.
00:36:25 - That's the only analogy there is to use.
00:36:28 - Well, and they've been exiled into a place
00:36:30 where magic and dark magic at that is very much a thing.
00:36:34 So I mean, maybe.
00:36:35 - I would love, I know we'll never see it,
00:36:40 I would love to see how the separation
00:36:44 from Ezra Bridger went down when they first arrived
00:36:48 in this place and all that.
00:36:49 - I mean, yeah, we probably won't,
00:36:51 but when we're talking about Ezra,
00:36:53 remind me to say, Greg,
00:36:55 what was that thing you wanted to bring up?
00:36:57 - Sure, I'm gonna forget.
00:36:59 Hopefully I remember what that was.
00:37:00 - Remind us in the comments section.
00:37:03 - But John, I'm curious to get your thoughts on,
00:37:06 because yes, I think for us familiar with,
00:37:11 what they have done is,
00:37:13 'cause while they have the books of Thrawn and everything,
00:37:16 bringing Lars Mikkelsen over,
00:37:18 they have, they are continuing the exact,
00:37:23 like while you got whoever plays Sabine Wren
00:37:25 doing her own rendition,
00:37:27 while you got Rosario Dawson doing her own rendition.
00:37:29 This is a straight up, yeah,
00:37:31 this is a straight up continuation from the animation
00:37:34 into here where I feel like perhaps some of the makeup
00:37:39 might get a little bit criticized.
00:37:41 It's pretty bright.
00:37:42 I think they have a cat bane.
00:37:44 - The guy's blue.
00:37:45 - The guy's blue.
00:37:46 - It's just, I feel like if you've seen the image,
00:37:49 it didn't bother me having seen some images
00:37:51 and having heard him speak a few times.
00:37:52 - Anything is better than the Grand Inquisitor in Obi-Wan.
00:37:55 - Sure, yeah.
00:37:56 (laughing)
00:37:57 But with not as much familiarity, I would say,
00:38:00 what would you, what was your impression of the villain
00:38:04 that they've been building up to this whole time?
00:38:07 - Yeah, it's certainly a gradual one
00:38:11 because he is so calm, collected, in control,
00:38:14 but it was a very intriguing start to that for me,
00:38:17 especially given that he has this very unique
00:38:20 and very sort of imposing looking squadron of taped up,
00:38:24 sort of, they almost feel like,
00:38:27 oh God, I'm gonna blank the name,
00:38:29 but you know, like the army of the dead
00:38:31 in Lord of the Rings or something like that.
00:38:33 And yeah, there is that sort of like cult level adherence
00:38:37 that they might be under or whatever.
00:38:39 But at least from here, I was sitting here going like,
00:38:41 well, this guy does seem like he has,
00:38:45 he just carries himself with that level of poise,
00:38:49 but also you can tell that there is such sort of power
00:38:54 and desire beneath the surface
00:38:56 and such a kind of will of vision,
00:38:58 at least here right now,
00:39:01 I thought this was a solid start, a solid setup,
00:39:03 because of course they're not,
00:39:05 I didn't expect them to ever introduce him
00:39:06 with some kind of like huge violent moment
00:39:08 or anything like that.
00:39:09 I understand this guy is at least supposed to be cunning
00:39:11 and supposed to be maybe not just your average,
00:39:14 you know, mustache twirling zealot.
00:39:16 And this was in line with that.
00:39:17 And it definitely had me curious and genuinely so
00:39:22 to see where the rest of this goes.
00:39:23 And it's also bolstered by the fact that you've got witches
00:39:25 and again, these cool gold riffs
00:39:28 on stormtroopers and stuff.
00:39:29 - Yeah, when Michael and I were first discussing Thrawn,
00:39:33 a few episodes, we were like really debating.
00:39:36 I was like, no, the guy's straight up a villain.
00:39:38 And a lot of that is just like, I read, oh my God,
00:39:43 now's not a time to blink.
00:39:44 - A book?
00:39:46 - The comic edit, I didn't read the actual novel.
00:39:48 - Sure, sure, sure.
00:39:49 - What the hell's the title of it?
00:39:51 - Thrawn?
00:39:52 - It's just called Thrawn?
00:39:53 - Yes, the name of the series.
00:39:55 - And the Army of Dunharrow, those are the-
00:39:57 - There's not a subtitle to it?
00:39:58 - Well, there's the ascendancy.
00:40:00 - What was the one, the Marvel one that they adapted?
00:40:02 They adopted straight from the,
00:40:04 where it starts off where he goes into,
00:40:06 like he's literally brought over
00:40:08 and he's talking about the Ches,
00:40:09 and he has a lieutenant.
00:40:10 - Yeah, and he's on the dark world.
00:40:11 - It's a-
00:40:12 - It rises the rings.
00:40:13 - Yeah.
00:40:14 - It's just called Thrawn?
00:40:15 - I think it's just called Thrawn.
00:40:16 - I'm so ignorant.
00:40:17 - Damn.
00:40:17 - I really thought it was,
00:40:18 I really thought there was like a subtitle to it.
00:40:19 - I mean, there might be a subtitle, but no.
00:40:22 - 'Cause the Ancient of the Empire was the old books.
00:40:24 - Yeah, the Empire's, but I-
00:40:26 - Anyway.
00:40:27 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:40:27 - So you've always seen him as evil, even after reading?
00:40:30 - No, no, no, not from,
00:40:31 there he's like straight up the protagonist.
00:40:33 Yeah, no, I'm saying that the strongest connection
00:40:38 I did have was via Rebels,
00:40:40 where they played him very much like a villain.
00:40:43 And I was hoping that with adapting him to live action,
00:40:46 that we would get more of that nuance
00:40:49 from like the books that you've read,
00:40:50 or from the comic I read,
00:40:52 that I was hoping they would bring that.
00:40:55 And here it seems like
00:40:56 they're pretty much just leaning villainy.
00:40:59 - I think that could be a very well done misdirection.
00:41:02 - I mean-
00:41:04 - Ski-folding out hope.
00:41:05 - No, I mean-
00:41:06 - He shows up with his whole army,
00:41:07 and notice about to kill, dispose of villainous shit,
00:41:10 if must be.
00:41:11 - Let me do some villainous shit really quick.
00:41:14 I think he has, number one,
00:41:16 I think you can still be a villain,
00:41:18 i.e. the Soviets,
00:41:20 and fight against the worst evil, i.e. the Nazis.
00:41:23 - Yeah.
00:41:25 - That being said,
00:41:26 it doesn't make you less of a villain.
00:41:27 You're still a villain,
00:41:28 you just happen to be on the right side.
00:41:30 I think that whatever they're running away from
00:41:32 in this galaxy is ultimately the big, big villain.
00:41:37 And that has always been Thrawn's motivation as a character.
00:41:41 - Yeah.
00:41:42 - His collective,
00:41:45 the reason he became part of the empire,
00:41:47 the reason that he did everything that he did.
00:41:50 I think his mistrust for the Jedi
00:41:52 is not necessarily misplaced.
00:41:55 - No.
00:41:56 - In that, you know,
00:41:58 was friends with Anakin,
00:41:59 how'd that work out?
00:42:01 - Well, and he also judges based off of history and lineage.
00:42:05 - Yeah.
00:42:05 - And one mention of art here,
00:42:06 you son of a bitch.
00:42:07 This guy's mad,
00:42:08 this guy wants to leave.
00:42:09 - There's no art.
00:42:11 - Yeah, we can't learn anything here.
00:42:13 - All these statues have big mouths
00:42:14 and it's making me,
00:42:15 it's really uncomfortable.
00:42:16 - Yeah.
00:42:17 Yeah, I like,
00:42:19 but overall,
00:42:20 I like Lars Mikkelsen's performance
00:42:22 and obviously it was funny.
00:42:26 I'm gonna say this,
00:42:27 I'm gonna try to say this without it sounding sensitive.
00:42:29 Because he's very,
00:42:32 Thrawn is usually portrayed as,
00:42:34 you know. - What, buff?
00:42:35 - No, very skinny.
00:42:37 - Yeah, he's a scrappy little.
00:42:38 - He's skinny, he's gaunt.
00:42:40 - This is a well fed Thrawn.
00:42:41 - Yeah, he's a well fed Thrawn.
00:42:43 Little, little, little bellies got there.
00:42:46 However, I kind of like it for the updated portrayal,
00:42:52 especially upon his introduction
00:42:54 when you get that profile shot.
00:42:56 Like, oh, he's found a way to kind of.
00:42:58 - Make it work here.
00:42:58 - Yeah, a little bit luxurious
00:43:00 and I'd rather get the performance of Lars
00:43:02 more than anything else.
00:43:03 - That is kind of, I think, the best argument there.
00:43:06 But I also think that he probably just has a little belly
00:43:08 and White doesn't look good on anybody after Labor Day.
00:43:13 - I was saying that I think people will bring it up
00:43:15 and I'm saying, I actually think it kind of works.
00:43:18 - Yeah, I'm for it.
00:43:20 - And okay, so we got that.
00:43:22 And then, but Ezra Bridger.
00:43:25 - I'm so happy.
00:43:27 I just think the casting was perfect.
00:43:31 I was so worried that he was gonna be wearing
00:43:33 his Rebels outfit and was gonna look so,
00:43:35 like he looks so bad in the hologram.
00:43:37 And I was so scared that that was like
00:43:39 what we were gonna see.
00:43:40 And instead we got this like entirely new look
00:43:42 that still felt Jedi, but also felt so different.
00:43:46 Instantly, instantly his chemistry with Sabine
00:43:52 was just like.
00:43:55 - No, straight plucked out, yeah.
00:43:56 - Which is perfect.
00:43:58 Which honestly like, I'm really like,
00:44:02 Ahsoka's last episode really kind of solidified
00:44:06 just the growth and I was really hoping
00:44:08 this episode would do it for me, for Sabine.
00:44:11 I still haven't seen it.
00:44:13 I'm hoping a little bit more time with Ezra
00:44:15 and the two of them and their dynamic
00:44:16 might give us something, but I'm beginning to think
00:44:19 maybe I just don't like, which stinks
00:44:22 because I loved her character in Rebels.
00:44:24 But the live action portrayal just has not been
00:44:27 doing it for me.
00:44:27 But I thought the buildup to Ezra was great.
00:44:30 It was also just like a really nice juxtaposition
00:44:32 from like angry, like Hermit Luke.
00:44:36 And to get like, Oh no, here's like happy Ezra
00:44:39 still being Ezra, still true to himself.
00:44:42 Just a little bit older, a little bit wiser.
00:44:46 - Yeah, I mean, he's much wiser.
00:44:49 He seems like it.
00:44:52 He seems a little bit more sage,
00:44:54 which I really do appreciate.
00:44:55 - I mean, you look a little bit more sage
00:44:56 than you used to, but I wouldn't say you're any wiser
00:44:58 than you were when we first met.
00:45:00 - I mean, I haven't been stranded.
00:45:03 - That usually leads to some cool mystery and wisdom
00:45:06 as you've seen in Castaway.
00:45:07 - What was in those boxes?
00:45:10 - So yeah, I liked the little bit that we got there.
00:45:15 It really felt like Ezra Bridger, but grown up.
00:45:18 He might say Ezra Miller.
00:45:19 (all laughing)
00:45:21 And yeah, to me, I did,
00:45:24 I'm not in love with the Sabine performance,
00:45:27 but this was my favorite performance of hers.
00:45:29 'Cause I liked her back and forth with Ron.
00:45:31 - I liked that they gave her-
00:45:32 - Her dynamic with Ron was really the strongest.
00:45:35 - Her engagement with the creatures,
00:45:37 I thought was really good too.
00:45:39 I loved her fight scene.
00:45:41 And especially with that final moment with Ezra.
00:45:44 That was like, yeah, this is my favorite episode of her,
00:45:47 specifically the live action one.
00:45:49 But then again, John, I'm gonna throw it to you here
00:45:51 on Ezra Bridger as the buildup
00:45:53 and not really having familiarity with him.
00:45:56 Did it make an impression of sorts?
00:46:00 What's your honest take on here
00:46:01 as your whatever position you are in life?
00:46:06 (all laughing)
00:46:09 - Yes, segue into this point.
00:46:13 No, it was a lovely introduction
00:46:17 because it was a ray of hope.
00:46:21 And I don't know, there was something about the actor.
00:46:25 There's something about this actor showing up
00:46:27 and especially joking about like,
00:46:28 I don't know, you start to play the math
00:46:30 and the game of these shows and be like,
00:46:33 oh, what are they gonna hold onto?
00:46:34 What are they gonna not?
00:46:35 And for everything that has come before it,
00:46:38 again, I thought it was a genuinely bright ray
00:46:41 to kind of cut through everything
00:46:43 and to be like, oh, what a relief.
00:46:45 And also here's a guy who,
00:46:47 it doesn't hurt that I have a new character
00:46:50 who's also not very dour at the moment
00:46:52 to learn about and to catch up to.
00:46:54 - That's the reminder point.
00:46:57 - Hey, go to the safe place.
00:47:00 He did it all by himself.
00:47:02 - I almost forgot.
00:47:03 No, don't lose it, Craig.
00:47:08 It's been a few days, guys.
00:47:09 You don't know what's been going on in my life.
00:47:11 Okay.
00:47:12 - Okay, there's a lot of this conversation
00:47:16 about this planet and oh, there's like dark forces here
00:47:19 and it's threatening and then you got like the witches
00:47:22 and there's a lot of emphasis too.
00:47:25 I think you guys know where I'm going.
00:47:26 There's a lot of emphasis too on Thrawn.
00:47:28 Like we got to jump ship out of here, you know?
00:47:30 But what I love with Ezra was,
00:47:34 there's an, as Sabine is searching for him,
00:47:38 she encounters creatures
00:47:40 where there is such light generated from that,
00:47:42 you know, such joy.
00:47:44 And then even with Ezra, he's managed to find beauty here.
00:47:48 And it's a great representation
00:47:51 of dark side and light side.
00:47:53 And I think they really captured that tonality
00:47:57 and just the overall spirit of,
00:47:59 this is not just, you know,
00:48:00 pretty is not just this like evil graveyard.
00:48:02 - Yeah.
00:48:03 - There is beauty here and Ezra managed to find it
00:48:07 whilst being a nomad.
00:48:08 - Yeah.
00:48:09 - And so I think that was a really strong thing
00:48:12 they captured here on camera.
00:48:13 - Which they could have so easily gone
00:48:15 the opposite direction.
00:48:16 - Yeah, it could have just been-
00:48:17 - He's dowering out too.
00:48:18 - He could have been like on a mountain,
00:48:19 not wanting to see a lightsaber.
00:48:21 - Yeah, well no, like that's,
00:48:22 but actually, and I think that's one of my favorite things
00:48:26 about Ezra as just a character in general,
00:48:28 like his like date of birth
00:48:33 is literally the beginning of the empire.
00:48:35 Like his entire existence has been marred
00:48:39 by like these dark times.
00:48:41 And yet, despite losing his parents,
00:48:43 despite losing his master,
00:48:45 despite getting stranded in a different galaxy,
00:48:48 he has always been able to maintain hope and light.
00:48:53 And I think represents the best of what the old Jedi was.
00:48:58 - Right.
00:48:59 - And in so many ways, what the new Jedi can be.
00:49:02 And I think for both Sabine,
00:49:04 somebody who from the very beginning,
00:49:06 who grew up in the same exact times
00:49:08 and has experienced all of that dower and hurt
00:49:12 and kind of retreated inward
00:49:13 and cut herself off from the force.
00:49:16 And even Ahsoka, whom I think has been
00:49:18 on this really powerful journey,
00:49:20 especially in the last episode,
00:49:21 Ezra is going to be such an important reminder
00:49:26 of not just the light, but also the potential
00:49:31 and that there is a future still.
00:49:34 - Exactly.
00:49:35 - Which is what all the characters need.
00:49:36 And honestly, what I'm really curious about,
00:49:40 maybe it's what Balin needs.
00:49:42 - Seems like it's where it's headed, man.
00:49:44 - I mean, he's such a-
00:49:46 - And it also really seems like,
00:49:48 I know you're doing a transition here.
00:49:50 It also seems like Thrawn doesn't need to dispose of Ezra
00:49:53 if they're just going to leave,
00:49:54 especially when he's saying like,
00:49:55 "Just so you know, if we leave and you're not on that ship,
00:49:59 you're going to be stranded here."
00:50:01 So he doesn't need to dispose of them.
00:50:03 So it seems like he's got to,
00:50:04 I mean, I can imagine he's kind of mad at Ezra.
00:50:06 - Well, now they've got the Purrgil,
00:50:10 so he might not feel that way.
00:50:12 - I mean, he probably feels that.
00:50:14 I mean, no, with Ahsoka and the Purrgil,
00:50:15 but prior to that, I'm saying,
00:50:17 seems like he's got a personal vendetta against Ezra.
00:50:22 - I think it's both a vendetta and an admiration.
00:50:25 I mean, I think that's what my favorite part of Thrawn is,
00:50:27 he doesn't just view his enemies as enemies,
00:50:29 he views them as people who are complex and sophisticated,
00:50:33 and Ezra, to outmatch him as like, you know, a little boy,
00:50:37 it must fascinate him.
00:50:40 - Yeah, your Balin poem, where were you?
00:50:43 I love what they're teasing with Balin,
00:50:44 because what I love what they're doing with Balin,
00:50:47 is they seem like they're really setting up,
00:50:50 I love how I'm not feeling like this is going nowhere,
00:50:53 in the sense of we're just building
00:50:56 to the first order or some shit, right?
00:50:58 Even though he's talking about that, essentially.
00:51:00 He's like, rise and fall, you know what I'm talking about?
00:51:02 - It feels like something interesting about this guy.
00:51:05 - But it seems like what he is searching for here,
00:51:07 which they have not clarified,
00:51:09 you have a very clear theory, you've mentioned it a few times
00:51:11 of where they're possibly going with this.
00:51:14 I still feel like whatever it is specifically
00:51:17 that Balin is seeking, that's opening up a new door for us
00:51:21 in Star Wars the most, is specifically his character.
00:51:24 That's just the inkling that I'm at least getting.
00:51:26 - Well, I think the, if they go the direction
00:51:31 of the first order and all of that, and try to tie this on,
00:51:36 I honestly think they'd be doing a giant disservice
00:51:39 to everything that they've done.
00:51:41 - No, I think where this is going,
00:51:44 and it will be a miracle if they can pull it off,
00:51:47 you have all these different elements of the force
00:51:52 in terms of Balin, Ahsoka, Ezra, Sabine.
00:51:56 - Hu Yang.
00:51:58 - Hu Yang, no, but between them all,
00:51:59 there is a collective knowledge and spectrum of the force
00:52:03 that I wouldn't necessarily say is on the dark side,
00:52:06 but represents a...
00:52:09 - Nuance.
00:52:11 - Balin is a crusader of a bygone era
00:52:15 who was disillusioned by what happened to his order.
00:52:19 Ahsoka is a crusader from a bygone era who is,
00:52:22 they have the opportunity here, in my mind, to be--
00:52:26 - Both generals.
00:52:27 - The front line and the first defense for the galaxy
00:52:32 against whatever this greater evil is going to be,
00:52:35 whether it be the grisk of the books and the comics,
00:52:39 or whether it be something that we've never seen before.
00:52:41 And I think all of them coming together and reconciling
00:52:45 that the force is a spectrum,
00:52:47 and that to achieve balance,
00:52:50 there has to be somewhere in between.
00:52:52 There needs to be, you know,
00:52:55 I think it will create a fascinating new Jedi order
00:52:59 that can exist outside of the galaxy that we know,
00:53:03 and that maybe can be reconnected with, you know,
00:53:06 what they're hoping to do with the Rey series
00:53:08 and her building her new Jedi order.
00:53:09 - Hell yeah.
00:53:10 - But I hope that they don't just bring these characters
00:53:15 back to the old galaxy
00:53:19 and put them on a collision course with seven, eight, nine.
00:53:24 I hope that they give them,
00:53:29 they have a whole new galaxy ripe for storytelling.
00:53:31 - Hell yeah.
00:53:32 But Jon, witches of Dathomir.
00:53:35 - Yeah.
00:53:36 - Final gator witches.
00:53:37 - So excited.
00:53:38 - I mean, they're not witches of Dathomir.
00:53:40 - They're the Dathomiri,
00:53:43 witches of old Dathomir.
00:53:45 - Some combination of these.
00:53:49 They're the Benny Jezreel.
00:53:50 - I know you are, but what am I?
00:53:52 - Yeah, they're the fates of the Benny Jezreel.
00:53:54 They're the weird sisters.
00:53:55 - If they were any more on the nose.
00:53:57 - I mean, I just cannot,
00:53:58 like this is all getting very heavy metal
00:54:01 if they're gonna have like some kind of witch showdown
00:54:04 on some bone yard planet.
00:54:05 - Have you seen any of witches of Dathomir?
00:54:08 - Little bits and pieces, yeah.
00:54:10 - What does that mean?
00:54:10 That's such a Jon answer.
00:54:12 - Most witches of Dathomir,
00:54:14 I would have only seen in like breakdown footage.
00:54:16 - Okay.
00:54:17 - There are other things that I've seen in actual episodes,
00:54:19 but they're not them.
00:54:20 So I mean like,
00:54:23 (laughing)
00:54:25 the idea alone gets me excited
00:54:28 'cause that's just something very much up my alley.
00:54:30 Ancient order of witches,
00:54:31 I would love to see how that applies to this
00:54:34 and those, I feel like recent Star Wars
00:54:36 has been dogged with, at least in line of action.
00:54:39 - My question is, yeah,
00:54:40 what'd you think of the impression that they left?
00:54:44 - I mean, I was very intrigued by everything.
00:54:46 They're perhaps the element that rests the least
00:54:49 on good casting for me.
00:54:50 Like it's just a generally interesting idea
00:54:52 and as being that we are in this ancient part of the galaxy
00:54:56 that feels very ancient,
00:54:57 it feels like Middle Earth ruins or something like that.
00:55:00 They feel like characters
00:55:01 who just naturally would root there
00:55:04 and I would love some kind of exploration,
00:55:07 especially because we have had enough investment
00:55:09 in Morgan Elizabeth,
00:55:10 at least to bring her out of Mando into this show
00:55:12 and extrapolate on that.
00:55:14 I just as a, on my wishlist would love some kind of dive
00:55:19 or for them to factor in heavily
00:55:20 and for that aspect of this world
00:55:23 that seems like it's kind of lost or fringe now
00:55:27 to rear its ugly head again,
00:55:29 especially because we do live in a moment
00:55:30 where metaphysics and mysticism
00:55:34 are more prominent in the mainstream
00:55:36 and I feel like, you know,
00:55:38 Star Wars of old is commenting on a certain period of war
00:55:42 as it is also bringing in certain film aesthetics.
00:55:45 So I feel like this could be an interesting way
00:55:47 to further update.
00:55:49 I mean, like, you know,
00:55:49 I feel like you should look beyond the spectrum of,
00:55:52 you know, into the broader spectrum of wars
00:55:55 for your inspiration for this
00:55:56 instead of just always doing the Nazis over and over again.
00:55:59 But yeah, this is, you know,
00:56:01 actually Vietnam was also a big part of it.
00:56:06 - Sure, yeah, absolutely.
00:56:08 - Yeah, I mean, I agree though with John on that.
00:56:12 Like, I feel like the show is at risk
00:56:15 of sometimes it seems like they put out,
00:56:19 it's like, oh, this is the planet,
00:56:20 this is lore, backstory.
00:56:22 - Yeah.
00:56:23 - And Star Wars fans will extrapolate that,
00:56:26 you know, down,
00:56:28 they'll dilute it down to it's like finest mineral,
00:56:31 but we won't, the show itself won't do anything
00:56:33 with its characters.
00:56:34 - Sure.
00:56:35 - And I feel like that's the risk that we have with it.
00:56:37 It's like, yeah, they introduced lore, cool.
00:56:39 But nothing really became of it emotional wise
00:56:42 or story wise.
00:56:43 And that is my concern that it won't do anything
00:56:47 and it's more of us just, you know,
00:56:48 with our thumbs waiting for it to be,
00:56:51 I'm not saying it's gonna do that.
00:56:52 I'm just saying that that is one concern I have.
00:56:54 - I think that's a super valid concern.
00:56:55 - Yeah.
00:56:56 - My big hope here is that in--
00:57:01 - So that's a lot.
00:57:02 - Jedi Survivor.
00:57:04 - That was my favorite of them.
00:57:05 I liked it more than Clone Wars.
00:57:06 - Yeah.
00:57:07 - I think it's because you actually had to like run around
00:57:09 Dathomir and shit.
00:57:10 - Yeah.
00:57:12 - Jedi Survivor in particular
00:57:14 and how they captured the relation between a Jedi
00:57:17 and a witch of Dathomir paints such a,
00:57:23 like if this is all working towards like the Star Wars
00:57:27 equivalent of an end game,
00:57:29 taking like the magic of Dathomir,
00:57:31 taking the power of the force of the light and the dark,
00:57:36 because there's an enemy that is greater than the whole
00:57:39 of all of those is something that really, really excites me.
00:57:42 And I think also just, it would be really nice for once
00:57:46 to just kind of flip the good and bad on its head.
00:57:49 And I like, they're the closest they've ever been
00:57:53 to successfully doing that.
00:57:55 And I think Balin is just like the perfect representation
00:57:58 of that, but even Morgan's character to an extent
00:58:01 is there's a lot of like nuance in her performance.
00:58:06 I don't want to like give her the benefit of any doubt,
00:58:08 but like there is a,
00:58:12 I'm putting my faith in the writers
00:58:17 and Dave Filoni in particular,
00:58:19 that they're not just going to use like the witches
00:58:21 of Dathomir to bring them to this galaxy
00:58:23 and then to just not conclude that arc.
00:58:26 But also what the heck happened to the witches of Dathomir
00:58:30 in this galaxy?
00:58:31 - It seems worth exploring and not to be like
00:58:34 rip off Dudenmore, but like, you know,
00:58:36 there is such a rich well in that story
00:58:39 with the Bene Gesserit and all that stuff
00:58:41 and the amount of sway and just the part
00:58:44 of the bigger political spectrum they can occupy.
00:58:48 And I think that would be a really cool,
00:58:49 interesting thing that has been trodden,
00:58:51 but is very much new in the live action setting.
00:58:53 And I do feel like if they,
00:58:57 I don't know what their plan is for this new galaxy.
00:59:00 And I, you brought some, one of you said something earlier,
00:59:02 which is, you know, I hope they don't just use this
00:59:04 as an excuse to collect up a couple of characters,
00:59:06 bring them back to the main timeline,
00:59:07 then go right into, you know, the sequel trilogy.
00:59:09 - I'll take the credit for what Michael said.
00:59:11 - Yeah, Greg, that was a great point.
00:59:12 It's that thing you reminded me to tell you to say.
00:59:15 Like that's, these are all things where, yeah,
00:59:18 I'm waiting to see if there will be window dressing or not,
00:59:20 because if they never really bother to expound
00:59:23 on this galaxy again, I'll feel kind of led now.
00:59:26 I'll feel kind of chipped.
00:59:27 And two, I mean, we are at that point where I'm like,
00:59:29 okay, cool, we're in this new place.
00:59:31 Like you said, we're kind of on one planet and it's a wreck.
00:59:34 It's a ruin, it's a derelict.
00:59:35 What does the rest of this place look like
00:59:38 and how different can it be?
00:59:40 And in some ways it is like, oh, well, you know,
00:59:42 how much do you show and dispel that mysticism?
00:59:45 Or, you know, it could be a cool opportunity
00:59:48 to really try out some new things, some new aesthetics,
00:59:51 some new stories, some new something.
00:59:53 And I feel like that is something that new Star Wars
00:59:56 has been trying to figure out really desperately.
01:00:00 - I think like when they, it's the thing is,
01:00:03 if there's one criticism I do actually have
01:00:05 that just didn't pop into my head till right now.
01:00:07 - Sure.
01:00:08 - Before we entered the planet, they were saying how,
01:00:12 man, we really should wrap this up, we gotta edit.
01:00:14 (laughing)
01:00:15 - Yeah, we were talking about, is that the,
01:00:19 before we entered, they're like, oh, I mean,
01:00:21 I liked the additional Lord that they gave us
01:00:23 in the Pergil and how that's connected to, you know,
01:00:26 the witches, I thought that was really cool to get.
01:00:28 They were setting up like how it's a graveyard and stuff.
01:00:32 And I really felt like there was gonna be like
01:00:34 this menacing or almost the equivalent
01:00:37 to something like two towers and a swamp.
01:00:40 - Something a bit more apocalyptic.
01:00:42 - Yeah, and I feel like when we travel to Dathomir,
01:00:45 if that feels more horrifying than here, you know,
01:00:50 and I was like, oh, I kind of wish we got some of that.
01:00:55 - Part of me wonders if they're saving some of that.
01:00:59 Like I kind of want to like, and this is just like
01:01:02 Michael in Fantasyland at this point, but I want,
01:01:05 I don't think we're gonna get a giant satisfying conclusion
01:01:08 at the end of this season.
01:01:09 - I feel like it's gonna be an Empire Strikes Back situation.
01:01:12 - Yeah, it's gonna be a big, but it's not gonna be like
01:01:16 a satisfying conclusion to this arc.
01:01:18 - There's gonna be a mythosaur hiding on the planet
01:01:20 and then Din Djarin's gonna come in.
01:01:22 - I want to see them on the front lines of like,
01:01:26 oh, this is like bad of whatever this big bad is.
01:01:30 And to see a planet that's just been absolutely devastated
01:01:34 and to realize that the threat that Thrawn
01:01:37 is running away from is going to find its way
01:01:40 to their galaxy, that last line of defense.
01:01:43 - I would strain everybody here at the end of the season.
01:01:46 - I think we got a lot to unpack as we move forward.
01:01:51 - What do you guys think?
01:01:52 I would love to know and theorize with you.
01:01:56 But guys, this was great.
01:01:59 Friends, if you enjoyed this.
01:02:02 (laughing)
01:02:03 If you enjoyed this.
01:02:04 - I admire the tenacity.
01:02:05 - Use the force.
01:02:06 (laughing)
01:02:07 - I'm done.
01:02:08 - Use the force.
01:02:09 - I'm like, I gotta wrap this up.
01:02:10 I'm gonna wrap it up for everybody.
01:02:12 - Every single time.
01:02:14 - I got this.
01:02:15 - Use the force.
01:02:15 - I will not handle shit.
01:02:17 - To leave a like and a comment.
01:02:20 Make sure you hit the bell button.
01:02:22 - We should shout someone out.
01:02:23 There's only a few days left in the month.
01:02:24 - Yo, we should shout somebody out.
01:02:25 Is it those names right there?
01:02:27 - Yeah, yeah, the to-dos, not the completes.
01:02:30 - Hey, Gabriel.
01:02:31 - Gabriel.
01:02:32 - Yeah.
01:02:33 - Gabriel the archangel.
01:02:35 - Oh no.
01:02:36 - Oh no, you done it now.
01:02:37 You sent it.
01:02:38 - He hates that shout out.
01:02:39 - Gabriel's not an angel.
01:02:41 - We've done that shout out so many times.
01:02:42 He's expressed that he does not believe in God
01:02:45 and there's more to him than that.
01:02:46 - Gabriel the anti-Christ.
01:02:47 (laughing)
01:02:48 It's all for you, Gabriel.
01:02:49 - I kind of went that direction already
01:02:52 with another shout out.
01:02:53 - Gabriel the everyman.
01:02:55 - Yeah.
01:02:56 - Gabriel, long for Gabe.
01:02:58 - You know, I've been watching The Office finally.
01:03:04 I realize I never made it past season eight
01:03:06 because I didn't want to let Michael Scott go.
01:03:09 And there's a character on there
01:03:10 who I know a lot of people don't really like.
01:03:12 His name is Gabe.
01:03:13 And as I've been watching the show,
01:03:15 I gotta say, I don't get the hate for Gabe.
01:03:17 I think Gabe's an all right guy.
01:03:19 And I imagine this Gabriel is kind of like you, buddy.
01:03:22 - Even better.
01:03:23 - Just lanky and a little bit insecure.
01:03:29 - I thought that was the name of the next one.
01:03:32 - Lanky, a little bit insecure
01:03:34 and kind of trying to posture confidence,
01:03:37 but it's never quite really there.
01:03:39 - I had posture once.
01:03:40 - And then that's why you insist
01:03:43 on never mentioning the archangel element,
01:03:46 not believer in God, very much Gabe from The Office.
01:03:50 So that's kind of my association.
01:03:53 But funny, funny guy at the same time.
01:03:56 I have no idea what your physical appearance looks like.
01:03:58 One time I made a shout out
01:03:59 about someone's physical appearance,
01:04:01 not knowing what they look like.
01:04:02 And I even stated that.
01:04:03 I think I got severely offended.
01:04:05 And I said, I don't even know what you look like.
01:04:06 I'm clearly just making shit up on the spot here.
01:04:09 So you might be like super fat for all I know,
01:04:14 or you could be like a dwarf.
01:04:16 I don't know which way you go, buddy.
01:04:19 You could be disfigured.
01:04:21 - You could just be a head in a jar.
01:04:25 - Either way. - A Futurama.
01:04:27 - A disfigured fat dwarf.
01:04:29 - A disfigured fat little person.
01:04:31 - People must point at you a lot.
01:04:33 - I mean, I get it sometimes.
01:04:36 (laughing)
01:04:38 - People must specify.
01:04:39 - Ricardo Martinez.
01:04:42 - Next chat.
01:04:42 - Ricardo Martinez, you are.
01:04:45 - No, no, we'll do him next.
01:04:47 - Nah, Gabe.
01:04:47 - That's a promise.
01:04:48 - Embrace the shout out.
01:04:50 We love you, Gabriel.
01:04:51 - Love you, Gabe.
01:04:52 You know it's all in fun.
01:04:53 See ya, buddy.
01:04:54 (electronic music)
01:04:56 (electronic music)
