Malik Nabers: Mississippi State Week
Transcript
00:00 getting different, seeing the coverages, finding the open spaces in the voids.
00:04 And always been on the same queue with the quarterback.
00:08 With me and his reads, different than my freshman year.
00:11 I was in with K-Sean, him and Max, they had their connection.
00:15 So with me and Jayden having our connection, it's gonna be pretty good.
00:19 >> You also, I mean, there's lots of connections with Mississippi State,
00:21 specifically.
00:22 I mean, you were committed there for a long time.
00:24 What originally made you commit to Mississippi State?
00:28 >> It was always the love that they had shown me through my recruiting process.
00:33 I think they were my third SEC offer that I had.
00:37 And Spur you just always showed me love.
00:39 Him and Mason Smith, they did a really good job recruiting me.
00:42 But when I got the call from Mickey and Coach Carter and Coach O,
00:46 it was nothing like playing for LSU, playing for your home state.
00:51 So I just had to come here.
00:53 >> You took it, of course, up to signing day, right?
00:55 You flipped on signing day.
00:56 I guess why take it to that point then, if you knew earlier,
01:02 what was sort of those maybe 24 hours around signing day like?
01:08 >> Because I really wasn't sure that I wanna switch after being recruited by
01:14 what I thought that was family, being recruited for three years strong.
01:17 And then trying to switch on recruiting to LSU.
01:23 But I was always cool with Coach Falk, Coach Mickey, Coach Carter.
01:27 And it was still like a family, I just didn't have the offer.
01:30 But when the offer came, it was something that I looked into.
01:32 And then it was just something that was great for my family,
01:35 being close to home, being close to mom.
01:38 So it was just something that I had to do.
01:39 >> Coach Kelly talked about, I think it was last week,
01:43 that you're trying to learn how to be a leader.
01:46 What has that process been like for you, and
01:48 what have you learned about being a leader?
01:51 >> Trying to be a vocal leader, it's all about how your audience take the leadership.
01:57 If you're too loud, they might take it a different way.
02:00 So I was always the younger guy in the group, so
02:04 I was just trying to lead by example, like making plays out on the field.
02:07 But now that I'm the leader of my group, I have to lead vocally,
02:12 like to get guys going, get the team going.
02:14 So just my tone of my leadership,
02:18 I just gotta work on the tone of my leadership.
