00:00 >> [LAUGH] >> Or obviously,
00:01 we were just talking about the kind of strength of the running back group
00:04 through these past two weeks, going into week three.
00:06 What do you think has been the most consistent thing that you've seen out of
00:09 all three of you guys?
00:10 How coach kind of just said you guys have been one of the more unselfish units that
00:14 he's ever worked with.
00:14 >> It's basically we just elevate each other's game, just let each other know
00:20 like we're doing something wrong off the field, on the field,
00:24 just keeping each other accountable each and every day.
00:27 We just try to get each other better.
00:28 >> Your coach Barclay a minute ago was talking about,
00:34 you may not be real big, but you can run over people.
00:38 And he said one way to do that is to use your velocity to make yourself bigger.
00:42 >> Yeah. >> So it's an interesting concept to me.
00:44 I wondered if that kind of struck with you too, to take that way.
00:48 >> Yeah, you just play fast, like at this size, you just gotta play fast, play hard.
00:53 Be relentless, and that's basically what I do.
00:56 And I don't take the game for granted.
00:58 So each and every play, I just play hard, hard as I can.
01:03 That's what it is.
01:04 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:10 >> Devin, you got here, you were here for all spring, correct?
01:14 >> Yes, sir.
01:14 >> How long did it take you to get adjusted to the defense, to being here?
01:19 And then when kind of the injuries started happening,
01:22 what did you do, you were gonna have your opportunity, how do you feel like you performed?
01:27 >> Coming into the spring initially, I was trying to get the hang of the new system
01:32 and just understand it.
01:33 I felt like I got adjusted to it pretty early, fine.
01:37 And once the injury happened, and just people were saying next man up,
01:42 I feel like I started to take a big step forward and just do what I needed to do.
01:47 And just try to bring the intensity to every day if possible.
01:50 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:53 >> Yeah, neither of you guys I don't think has ever played against Indiana.
01:55 Have you watched film on them yet?
01:57 What do you know about them?
01:58 What have you seen from them that impresses you at this point?
02:01 >> Can I tell you that, Mark?
02:05 >> Yeah, we have watched a good amount of film pretty early.
02:09 We know so far that they are an option team from the film we've
02:14 gone off of from last year's offense.
02:17 They've been a heavy option team.
02:19 They're really good at operating and putting the mesh together and
02:23 trying to take people off their assignments and focus on getting one on one
02:26 situation, so we're gonna take a big emphasis on that and just do what we gotta do.
02:30 >> This is a big and physical team.
02:34 We know that they play hard.
02:37 We got to match their intensity.
02:39 And it's the same team that stuck with Ohio State in the first half of the game.
02:44 So we know it's gonna be a good competitive game.
02:46 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:49 >> They've been playing two quarterbacks in their first two games.
02:54 Do you see any differences in the quarterbacks or
02:56 are they just trying to do the same thing, just playing two different guys?
03:00 >> The approach that we're gonna take to this,
03:02 we're gonna assume that they're gonna do the same thing.
03:04 That either quarterback can run the option just as fine or
03:07 just go with the traditional style of run or pass offense.
03:10 So we're not gonna take anyone for granted and
03:13 assume they're gonna do something different.
03:15 We're gonna come with the same intensity no matter who it is back there.
03:17 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:20 >> I'm sure Chris was just talking about Isaac when he came in kind of helping
03:23 learn the playbook.
03:24 I guess what has Isaac added to this room and what's it been like and
03:28 getting to compete with him and work with him so far this season?
03:32 >> Isaac brings that size, that different factor that we needed.
03:36 Me and Maurice kind of have similar games.
03:39 So bringing Isaac in, he can change the pace of the game.
03:44 He can be more physical than us.
03:45 He got speed too, so Isaac is a big game changer.
03:50 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:52 >> When there are three of you, three guys, well, actually four, but
03:56 three that have been getting a lot of reps, how hard is it to be patient?
04:01 Because in Georgia Tech, you didn't get a carry for a bit and
04:04 then you broke off the big one in the other night.
04:06 It was kind of the same way.
04:07 How hard is it to be patient and
04:09 to be a good teammate knowing that the others are gonna get chances?
04:13 >> For myself, not too hard.
04:15 I mean, I trust in the game plan.
04:17 I trust in Coach Brown with the ass plan.
04:19 So if he feels like I need eight carries and throw the ball more,
04:23 then I trust it.
04:25 So I just trust in the game plan, that's it.
04:28 >> Devin, you mentioned how you use it,
04:30 coming in that option offense and that the defense needs to do what they need to do.
04:33 How challenging is it when you face an option offense?
04:36 Or what's the mindset gotta be to make sure you stay locked in and disciplined?
04:40 >> Well, the biggest challenge when facing an offense like that is gonna create one
04:43 of those scenarios that all 11 have to do their job at all times.
04:47 You can't have just 10 or 9, you gotta be all 11 guys.
04:51 And just having just certain people know what their key is, who they're gonna take
04:55 in certain leads is gonna be really a stop in this offense overall.
05:00 >> Devin, I use a ball control type team.
05:05 They wanna really use up the clock.
05:07 How important is third down?
05:09 Third down's obviously important every week, but
05:11 especially this week is how they like to say it.
05:14 >> Yeah, third down is a big emphasis we talked about.
05:16 We gotta eliminate the third and short situations,
05:19 like no less than third and five or third and fours.
05:23 If we keep them beyond that and we force them to play from their option play style,
05:27 then I feel like we can get our offense back the ball.
05:29 Cuz they're gonna wanna keep the ball away from our offense.
05:32 They're gonna do their thing, drive, score.
05:34 I believe in that.
05:34 Our defense does too.
05:35 >> Sure.
05:36 >> Anybody else?
05:39 >> Yeah, I got one more.
05:41 >> Thanks, Marko.
05:43 >> [LAUGH] >> Devin, Jaylen Lucas for them.
05:47 It feels like they've got weapons, but he's the guy.
05:52 He's a small back, but he's quick, he's fast.
05:54 Just what is the key to kinda slowing him down?
05:59 >> Well, we talked about it a great deal, and
06:01 the key is just to know where Slovis at all times.
06:04 He's their game changer.
06:05 We know he's their guy.
06:06 You gotta take big focus, you can't have a little mental mistake.
06:12 You gotta know where he is at all times.
06:14 And know if he's gonna be the dive guy or pitch guy, or
06:17 even if they might send him out to run a route, we gotta know where he's at at
06:19 all times.
06:20 And I feel like just having all 11 guys alert, communicating before plays,
06:24 doing what we practice is gonna really help us in the game.
06:28 >> Devin, with the exception of that second quarter against Georgia Tech,
06:33 you guys have played really good defense over the first couple games of the season.
06:37 How much of a confidence boost has it given you guys,
06:40 knowing that you've played mostly really solid fundamental defense to start
06:44 the season?
06:45 >> That's a huge confidence boost.
06:46 I feel like just coming back and playing a strong half of defense like that really
06:50 lets your defense know who they are from a standpoint.
06:54 We know we're fast, we know we're physical.
06:55 Just coming back from a deficit like that really lets you know that you have a tough
06:59 team that when their back's against the wall, just stand firm and just hold it down.
07:03 That's what we feel good about that.
07:07 >> All right, thanks guys.
07:08 >> Thank you.
07:09 >> Thanks guys.
