On Saturday the historic Laying up of Colours ceremony attracted people from across the borough and beyond to a momentous day marking the town’s historic links to the regiment.

00:00 The significance of Balomina is really substantial in the story of the Royal Irish Regiment in
00:08 that St Patrick's Barracks was the depot of the Royal Oster Rifles, the depot of the North
00:14 Irish Brigade, the depot of the Royal Irish Rangers and latterly the depot of the Royal
00:20 Irish Regiment. So many of us have served in the depot, many of us have served in Balomina
00:27 and so it's entirely fitting that as we lay up the colours of the 1st Battalion it's here
00:32 in Balomina that we do that.
