00:30 The National Data Center is already making a strong contribution in the
00:35 digitalization agenda,
00:37 working with technology partners to deliver cutting edge solutions for
00:42 Kenya's public and private sector.
00:45 Today's groundbreaking is an important milestone for our country.
00:52 We are groundbreaking for the first 100% eco-friendly,
00:57 100% green data center,
01:01 a first of its kind in Africa.
01:05 This is a pioneer in the African continent and demonstrates our
01:10 leadership in the technology front in Africa and the world.
01:16 I have been informed that the e-cloud data center is a facility that will
01:24 contribute to the accelerated journey towards the fourth industrial
01:29 revolution,
01:31 inspiring the world to look at Kenya as the ideal choice for technology
01:37 infrastructure deployment in a rapidly changing technological space.
01:42 It will enable a new crop of innovators and technology players that are
01:50 committed to sustainable development.
01:54 The green data centers, such as the one that will be built here,
01:58 are at the forefront of the sustainability movement,
02:02 revolutionizing the technology industry's environmental impact.
02:08 By implementing energy efficient practices,
02:12 renewable power sources, and advanced cooling technologies,
02:17 these eco-friendly facilities strive to reduce carbon footprints while
02:23 maintaining seamless data processing.
02:27 Therefore, embracing such centers is crucial for a greener and more
02:33 sustainable future.
02:35 If we've got energy available at the cost that we are giving to this
02:41 kind of investment, going to center so that you don't have to transport
02:45 energy and incur more losses, you know,
02:50 even the safest energy or the clean energy is energy which is not
02:53 generated. We don't need to generate energy and
02:55 transport. If we can generate energy and use it
02:58 for our own needs, we will address the challenges of energy
03:05 conservation, energy efficiency, and therefore address that 30%
03:13 challenge where losses in transmission are unnecessary.
03:17 So congratulations, Kenjen, for opening a park where we can sell
03:22 power at source to global farms, green energy at source,
03:26 and be able to really meet the timelines today, not tomorrow.
03:33 As you are aware, as government, we have embarked on a very,
03:38 very ambitious program of realizing a vision of turning Kenya into a
03:45 digitalized economy. And in that venue, Your Excellency,
03:53 we have rolled out several programs so far and attained fundamental
03:59 milestones. One, we have embarked on the process of
04:04 enhancing the level of fiber connectivity in all parts of the
04:08 country. Two, we are enhancing the level of
04:13 digital literacy on one hand and also pursuing digital jobs for our
04:22 youth. Three, we are digitalizing government
04:29 services. Against this background, Your
04:33 Excellency, the Prime Cabinet Secretary, it is imperative that we
04:39 think of secure storage of data that is coming into the hands of
04:46 both government and in the private sector.
04:49 This is why, as government, deliberately and proactively,
04:55 through our CONSA technopolis, we have embarked on the program of
05:02 ensuring that we have got adequate data centers as part of our
05:09 digital infrastructure.
05:11 Thank you.
05:13 [Applause]
